Duane Hagen, a cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away on January 17, 2026, after a long battle recovering from a serious stairwell-falling accident March 1, 2023 Rehabilitation at home and outpatient physical therapy throughout 2023 until October 2024 Hospitalization was followed by in-home hospice care throughout 2025 and first weeks of 2026 His final few hours of care were at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo Duane was born August 29, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Einar and Eleanor (Kornoelje) Hagen Duane had a diverse career, beginning in 1970 After graduating high school, he began working for Battle Creek Gas Company, then Community Hospital Battle Creek initially in laundry service, shortly transitioning into the boiler energy trade While reconnecting with family at a June 1979 reunion in Kalamazoo, his cousins later introduced him to their new friend, Patti A year later, Duane and Patricia Preston-Honeysett were married Duane also became stepfather to three young children Residing in Kalamazoo, Duane worked full-time at Community Hospital in Battle Creek and part-time at the Lantern Christian Book Store Later in the 1980’s Duane was hired at James River Papermill in Parchment with working part-time at the Kalamazoo Christian Book Store Staying in the boiler field at the papermill through the Crown Vantage years until the mill closed Upgrading with continuing education, Duane became a technical trainer through KVCC M-Tech programs, The Groves Center and KCC, Battle Creek Workforce Solutions Career changes and development included working at Merlo Energy and others Establishing his own business, Hagen Enterprise LLC in 2007 as a member of the AEE Association of Energy Engineers, Certified Energy Auditor, Steam and Condensate Systems Specialist, Training Facilitator in Multiple Fields, broadened his services throughout Michigan and Nationally until 2015 Also hired as a subcontractor in 2007 by MPI Research, Mattawan, which later became Charles River Laboratories, employed until 2024 Duane’s dedication extended beyond business; he was the founder of Shepherd’s Hollow Ministry, where he positively impacted lives through his outreach in schools, churches, jails and juvenile homes His personal testimony and music were at the heart of Duane’s ministry; a gift he shared generously with those around him A man of profound musical talent, known by many as “Mr Blues,” and “The Whistle” he thrived with the gospel message as a speaker, singer and harmonicaist Playing with numerous area bands and artists, turning down record label offers remaining true to his gospel mission and fully supporting his family Duane participated and performed in Hastings for many years leading carols on the Christmas Trolley and joining other musicians at the Thursday Music Nights at Arby’s Even during his time in hospice care, Duane collaborated with staff to promote their work through his music, showcasing his unwavering spirit and commitment to uplifting others On a personal level, Duane was a devoted family man, married to his beloved wife, Patti on July 18, 1980, at Hope Reformed Church in Kalamazoo He was the proud father of six children, Robert (Sariah) Honeysett, Melissa (Nick) Seaman, Kristine (Dustin) Goolsby, Angela (Lucas) Louden, David Hagen and Laura Hagen-Russell and grandfather to 14 beloved grandchildren Duane is also survived by his siblings, Alan Hagan, Arlan Hagan, Janice Gaskell and Julie Yancer, all of Battle Creek, along with many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter In addition to the love and support he provided to his family, Duane was an avid reader and lifelong learner, possessing an inquisitive mind and a gift for making others feel included Despite his largerthan-life personality, he was a humble servant of God, dedicated to both his faith and family A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49008 Gathering at 10:30am, Service and Sharing beginning at 11:00am Contributions in memory of Duane may be directed to Faith Chapel, 7736 West G Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49009

Sy Dillion Cassada passed away peacefully at his home in Delton on April 29, 2026 He was born on July 18, 1975, in Kalamazoo, to Larry Cassada and Jerri Bryan Sy graduated from Delton Kellogg High School in 1994 and later earned his NIULPE 3rd Class Power Plant Operating Engineer Certificate He began working at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell before moving on to Rock Tenn of Battle Creek, where he worked as a power plant operating engineer until his retirement in 2010 He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 547/324 Beyond his career, Sy was a man of many interests and passions A true coffee fanatic, he found joy in the simple pleasure of a perfect brew He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding, water skiing, boating, mushroom hunting and traveling He was a dedicated Detroit Lions fan and enjoyed watching them play even when losing He was a strong, informed historian and political advocate On October 4, 2003, at Wesley Woods Methodist Camp he married Maria Noto who survives Also surviving are his three children, Elliott, Luca, and Maristella; his parents, Larry Cassada and Jerri (Jeff Cline) Bryan; siblings, Shawna (Jordan) Dobbs and Trever (Bonnie) Ayers, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins Sy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elliott and Dolores Bryan, Allen Cassada and Betty Ritchie and cousin, Ty Mitchell According to his wishes cremation has taken place Friends may visit with Sy’s family starting at 4:00 P M , Friday, May 8, 2026, at Sherwood Gardens in Plainwell, until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 P M , with David DeVelder officiating Contributions in memory of Sy may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to a tree fund in Sy’s name

Harold passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Woodland Terrace in Otsego He was born on December 7, 1929, in Oshtemo Township, the son of Howard and Pearl (Robbins) Combs Harold graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1947 and Argubright Business College He proudly served his country in the U S Navy on board a Destroyer escort He transferred to the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1954 with rank of Yeomans Petty Officer Third Class Harold worked at several area businesses over the years As a young man he worked at Stedman’s Grocery Store and W K Kellogg Regional Airport He went on to work for DeNooyer Chevrolet in Battle Creek and Holland, Progressive Computer Service in Galesburg, Hefner Chevrolet in Fort Wayne and retired from Century Buick in Kalamazoo in 1992 where he was general business manager Harold was dedicated to his church and community He was an active member, treasurer and served on vestry at Grace Episcopal Church in Holland He also attended St Thomas Episcopal Church in Battle Creek and Church of the Resurrection in Lakeview He served on the Board of Directors of Family and Children’s Services in Battle Creek Harold held his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and liked rebuilding and flying antique airplanes He was also a John Deere enthusiast and was a member of the Two Cylinder John Deere Club, Family Motor Coach Association, The Good Sam Club and Kazoo Kampers On February 11, 1950, he married Marjorie Fosdick who passed away in 2020 Surviving are his children, Colleen (Rick) Ritchie, Sheryl (Ken) McGuffin and Dennis Combs; grandchildren, Ryan (Linley) Combs, Kevin (Sara) Combs, Johnathon (Stacey) McGuffin and Patrick (Megan) McGuffin; sister, Esther Reinbold; brother, Russel Combs and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Art, Earl and Robert Combs and sister, Anabelle Combs According to his wishes cremation has taken place A graveside service will take place at Liberty Street Cemetery Contributions in memory of Harold may be directed to Optimal Hospice Care

Susie Frances Curtiss went to be with her Lord peacefully surrounded by her family at home on May 4, 2026 Susie was born on January 23, 1960, in Elgin, Illinois, to Gail and Nancy Welch On May 11, 2008, she married the love of her life, Gary Len Curtiss, who preceded her in death on June 18, 2022 Susie worked for JM Wilson Corp for 36 years; she was so proud of her career She enjoyed Dollar General penny shopping, garage sales and morel mushroom hunting She also loved to donate to Christian Neighbors, the Gospel Mission and pet rescues as well as many other places She is survived by her son, John Joseph Grasser Jr of Marengo, Illinois; her mother, Nancy Videnieks of Batesville, Arkansas; siblings, Mike (Scott) Welch also of Batesville and Vonna (Todd) Anderson of Otsego; the Curtiss family of Allegan, Otsego and Plainwell along with many nieces and nephews Susie was preceded in death by her father; and brothers, Patrick, William “Fid” and Jesse Contributions in memory of Susie may be directed to Allegan County Animal Shelter
