Consider coming out and volunteering with us on May 18 for our annual Spring Cleanup! We will be planting flowers, pulling weeds, sweeping sidewalks, and more. Volunteers will meet at the Otsego Museum (218 N. Farmer Street) at 8am for coffee and a snack, and instructions. We will have a small number of gloves, bags, and buckets for volunteers, but if you can bring your own brooms, shovels and gardening/leaf rakes, please do so. If you would like to sign up, please contact the Main Street office or just show up at 8am at the Main Street Office. All ages welcome! Let's get ready for spring and show some Otsego pride!

Mud Volleyball is back for 2019! This year's tournament will feature a double elimination style of tournament, for the same price of $100 per team. Double the games for the same price! Scheduled for July 13, register your team or come out to watch as teams compete in our bracketed tournament to determine who will be the Mud Champions of 2019. The tournament will be located near the Main Street office at 218 N. Farmer Street in downtown Otsego. Please contact our office for team registration forms to get your team registered. Early bird registration ends June 30. Shout out to our winners last year, The Thompson Effect.
The Design Committee is excited to share with you our upcoming projects. The back alley that stretches from behind the Masonic Temple all the way to PNC Bank is undergoing a significant transformation to being a closed alley to allow for more pedestrian and business use. Another large project that is gaining traction is the planning and fundraising for our Riverfront Pavilion plan. If you want to learn more about this and other Design projects, come to our next meeting on the 3rd Monday of the month at 6pm at the Main Street office.

The Economic Vitality Committee is utilizing feedback provided by MEDC consultants to improve our promotional and recruiting materials. This includes updating our property pictures and building our database of event pictures. The committee is looking for a volunteer to assist with this project. If you would like to get involved with Economic Vitality in downtown Otsego, check out our next meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month, at 6:30pm, at the Main Street office.
Stout's Gear - Stout's Gear is the place to bring in your gently used sports and outdoor gear for cash or store credit. You can buy discount and preowned sports and outdoor equipment and apparel. They are located at 110 W. Allegan St. in downtown Otsego. They will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 4th at noon.

The Organization Committee has made plans to run a comprehensive social media campaign to promote our downtown businesses, make content changes to our web platforms, focus more on community outreach to gather support for our program, and more on the special events for the year including the Mud Volleyball Tournament, Pet Mayor Election, and the Gus Macker Tournament. This year we won’t be having Steins & Vines, Movies at the Museum, and the Riverfront Family Festival. We hope to bring these events back in the future. If you would like to help with any events or have new ideas, plan to attend the next Organization/Promotion meeting on the last Tuesday of the month at 5:30pm, at the Main Street office.

AGE 73 - OTSEGO, MI Judy passed away May 2, 2019 at her home in Otsego. Judy was born December 7, 1945 in Vicksburg the daughter of Carl and Jeanette (Northam) Moyer. On January 8, 1966 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Otsego she married Tom Harmon who survives. In Judy’s leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, quilting, flower gardening, being a train enthusiast; she loved traveling and serving others. She had worked for the Shoppers Guide in Otsego in graphic design. Surviving are her husband Tom; sons, Tommy J. (Dana) Harmon of Delton and Jacob (Erin) Harmon of Wayland; grandchildren, Carter, Ashtyn, Jacob and Patrick Harmon, Gavin and Grace Hebner and Alice and Ethan Cree; her siblings, Jim Moyer of Kalamazoo, Ginny (Mike) Summers of CO, Pat (John) Hinkle of Kalamazoo, Donna (Ron) Tharge of Otsego, Margaret Rex of Plainwell, John (Kathy) Moyer of Kalamazoo, Mary (Lane) Lovett of Kalamazoo, Nancy Flatt of Plainwell, Carl (Cathy) Moyer of Allegan, Gerard (Laura) Moyer of Kalamazoo and Therese (Barry) Mertz of PA; brothers-in-law, Jack (Donna) Harmon of Grand Rapids and Jim (Peg) Harmon of St. Joseph; 49 nieces and nephews and 118 great nieces and nephews. Barb passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo. Barb was born May 2, 1939 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Mae (Grand) Kostecki. She was a 1957 graduate of The Immaculata High School in Chicago. Barb was a parishioner at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego. She enjoyed knitting, birds and nature, and caring for her family. Barb is survived by her husband Francis Rayburn, Jr. whom she married in 1962 in Chicago, her children Wayne (Kim) Rayburn, Todd (Teresa) Rayburn and Lisa (Rob) Engelter all of Otsego and her dog Emma, 8 grandchildren, Cari, Kellie, Jessica, Daniel, Josh, Kyle, Hayden and Sam and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. In accordance with her wishes she has been cremated and burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held at

“CHOOSING TO FOLLOW”

Dan Minor - revdminor@att.net _____________________________________ “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17 I recently thought of a question I had never thought of before. I was asking some men in our church to play the role of disciples for a “Live Lord’s Supper” on Maundy Thursday. Nearly twice as many turned down the invitation than was needed. I am not condemning them because they all had good reasons. However, this led me to wonder if any of the original twelve rejected our Lord’s invitation to follow Him. If so, there is no record of it.
His main purpose in calling them was for them to be with Him and learn from Him. Thus, they were being trained to carry on His work following His earthly ministry. The Scripture indicates they left everything immediately and followed Him (Matthew 4:19-20, 22; Mark 1:17, 18, 20; Luke 5:27-28). They were chosen before He preached His first sermon or performed His first miracle. They were called during the first year of His ministry (Acts 1:21, 22). Prayer is the answer. In choosing the twelve, Jesus spent the whole night in prayer (Luke 6:12, 13). How much time do we spend in prayer that others will follow Jesus?
This leads to another question. Why would anyone want to turn Him down then or now? It may be because of unbelief, a feeling of self-sufficiency, indifference, fear of commitment, busyness or preoccupation with worldly pleasures.
The point is God has given all of us the freedom to choose. The invitation to follow Christ is to “whoever believes in Him” (John 3:16). Jesus is available, approachable and accessible. Yet we must choose to follow Him. There is a little chorus we used to sing at the close of our worship services:
“I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, No turning back, no turning back” Is this your decision?
