Craig passed away, Monday, May 26, 2025, at his home in Paw Paw He was born October 30, 1971, in Kalamazoo, the son of Dale and Kathy (Cramer) Newton Craig was a 1991 Otsego High School graduate and worked as a pipefitter with Union Local 357 He was very devoted to his work and was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan Craig was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren Surviving are his children, Michelle Newton and Eric Newton; grandchildren, Kayci Newton, Carter Newton and Bryce Allen; mother, Kathy; mother of his children, Sara and sister-in-law, Marcy Newton He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Newton and brother, Dale Newton Jr According to his wishes cremation has taken place

Judy passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025 in Kalamazoo
Judy was born April 24, 1948 in Traverse City the daughter of John and Eva (Doneth) Romsek Judy was a graduate of Benzie Central High School class of 1966 where she was a cheerleader She worked as a legal assistant for various law firms in the Kalamazoo area retiring in 2010 When her husband Ron was deployed to the Middle East she served as the President of the Michigan National Guard Family Support Group Judy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; baking cookies and was especially known for her pies and her great sense of humor She never missed a sporting event for her children and grandchildren and went all out for the holidays On July 5 1968 in Copemish, Michigan she married Ronald Holmes who survives Also surviving are their children, John Holmes of Otsego, Michael (Michelle) Holmes of Otsego; 4 grandchildren, Taylor, Jack, Malia and Alissa; a sister Terri Matousek and several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Julie TerMeer (Holmes) and a sister Nancy McCarthy Friends may meet with Judy’s family on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 6-8PM at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11 AM with Pastor Todd Meert officiating Burial of ashes will be at Ft Custer National Cemetery at a later time Contributions in memory of Judy may be directed to Gryphon Place

Loreto Martinez, age 99 passed away on May 26, 2025 Loreto was born on December 10, 1925, in D’Hanis, Texas, the son of Santos and Maria (Lopez) Martinez Loreto dedicated 25 Years of service as a tank operator with Murco, where his strong work ethic and collaborative spirit were deeply respected Beyond his professional life, Loreto found great joy and purpose in his faith, serving as a Pastor for the Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus in both Saginaw and Grand Rapids His love for the Lord shone brightly through his unwavering commitment to his congregation and his daily prayers for his beloved grandchildren An avid outdoorsman, Loreto's enthusiasm for hunting, gardening and carpentry was matched only by his talent for canning salsas, a skill that delighted friends and family alike Above all he will be forever cherished as a good dad, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and a constant presence in the thoughts and hearts of those he touched Loreto is survived by his wife of 78 years Simona Martinez children: Dora (David) Garcia, Estella Arreola, Maria Martinez, Aaron (Celia) Martinez Esther Martinez Sara Perez Raquel (Elias) Elizondo, Norma (Daniel) Jimenez, and Martha (Jaime) Gonzalez 29 grandchildren 55 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews Loreto was preceded in death by his parents, sons in law: Augustin Arreola and Jacobo Garcia III, siblings: Santiago Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Pablo Martinez, Esperanza Alcantar, Aurora Martinez, Santos Martinez, and Gil Gonzalez Loreto’s family will receive friends on Monday, June 2, 2025, 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home and on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, 10am-11am at the Fountain of Truth Apostolic Tabernacle, 6116 Marsh Rd , Shelbyville, where his funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery

Kenneth was born April 4, 1945 in Hancock, MI the son of Peter and Allie (Anderson) Heikka Ken was a proud graduate of Dollar Bay High School in the Upper
He honorably served his country in the US Army Kenneth worked for Hastings Mfg for over 30 years and most recently was supervisor of maintenance at Baraga Manor Ken loved to work and was a skilled handyman who could build or fix anything He remodeled their home in Hastings before moving to Otsego 10 years ago Ken became a born-again Christian in 1972 and grew to love the Lord More recently he was member of the Otsego Baptist Church On June 21, 1969, in Hastings, he married MaryLou McPherson who survives Also surviving are his son, John (Sharon) Heikka of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren JJ and Clara, siblings Karen (Paul) Hendon of WI, Ralph (Ivy) Heikka of WI, Pete (Betty) Heikka of Houghton, sister-in-law, Pat of AZ, and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Robert and Wally Cremation has taken place A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5-7PM, Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego At 6pm there will be a formal time to share words of remembrance Burial of ashes will be at Ft Custer National Cemetery at a later time Contributions in memory of Kenneth may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Otsego

Dorothy M. MARLATT AGE 95 - PLAINWELL, MI
Dorothy M Marlatt, age 95, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2025 Born on February 11, 1930, in Milwaukee, WI, she was the daughter of William & Susana (Woyak) Brown When Dorothy was young her father set up ammunitions factories for the war, so they lived in a camper for several years As an adult, she was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area Every Thursday, Dorothy would host a group of 7 seniors at her house for lunch and every Wednesday evening they would go to Presbyterian Church in downtown Kalamazoo for dinner Dorothy was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church Dorothy was married to George Higgins for 26 years before they divorced Later she married Bill Rethard and they were together for 8 years before he passed away Dorothy married Harry Marlatt, and they were together 17 years before he died in an accident Dorothy s legacy lives on through her two sons: George Higgins and Fredrick Higgins; her daughters in Law: Helen Higgins and Claire Higgins; her siblings: Jim and Esther; 10 grandchildren as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection and gratitude

My wife won’t let me watch UFC with our kids anymore She says it’s too violent, and she’s right It really is Two fighters going at it in a steel cage with very thin gloves on their hands well, it’s brutal But I still sneak a peek every once in a while Just don’t tell my wife! There are some other brutal battles going on in our lives During our Sunday morning services in June, I’ll be exploring some of the Ultimate Fighting Challenges that so many of us face on a regular basis We will look for guidance from God’s word on battling depression, temptations, anger, and trials I believe God is going to do a deep and lasting work in our lives through this series of sermons
