Obituaries Patricia FERGUSON AGE 78 - PLAINWELL, MI

Patricia Ferguson, lovingly known as Pat, Patty, Mom or Grandma passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, surrounded by the family she adored more than anything in this world. Born in Kalamazoo to Carl and Doris Watts on June 10, 1947, Pat spent her life building exactly what mattered most to her — a close-knit family filled with love, laughter, traditions, and probably enough handmade crafts to supply an entire county. Pat met the love of her life, Jim Ferguson, on a blind date — proof that sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect them. The two married in January of 1969 and built a beautiful life together filled with adventure, and just enough sarcasm to keep things interesting for over five decades. Together they raised two children, Jeff Ferguson and Amy Hamilton, and Pat made motherhood look effortless — though her family knows it was fueled by equal parts love, determination, tea, and patience, lots of patience. Every summer meant trips to Pine Lake, where memories were made year after year. Whether she was behind a camera capturing moments on film, tending to her flowers and garden beds, cooking for a crowd, or riding on the back of Jim’s motorcycle for long scenic drives, Pat had a gift for finding joy in simple moments and making them unforgettable.

Pat’s creativity knew no limits. If there was a school play, Halloween costume, holiday gathering, or grandchild in need of something special, she was already three steps ahead with fabric, glue guns, yarn, and a plan. Her charitable heart led her to lovingly handcraft mittens and hats for local schools, quietly helping others the same way she lived her life — generously and without needing recognition. Family functions were her favorite sport, and she proudly served as organizer, coordinator, encourager, and sometimes referee. She was fiercely loyal, deeply loving, and armed with a sarcastic sense of humor sharpened over years of keeping up with her husband and children. Pat leaves behind her devoted husband, Jim Ferguson; her son, Jeff Ferguson; her daughter, Amy Hamilton (Kevin Callahan); grandchildren, Jimmy Hamilton (Megan Hamilton), Davy Hamilton, Tanner Callahan (Alexis Bucher), and Keira Callahan; and great-grandson Tucker Callahan along with extended family and friends.

Her family finds comfort knowing she is likely somewhere beautiful right now — camera in hand, flowers blooming nearby, probably reminding everyone how she would have organized things a little differently. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to Christian Neighbors. Pat’s love stitched itself into generations, and her family will carry that warmth with them forever. Visit with family and friends on Tuesday, May 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainwell. A memorial service will be held on May 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Pastor and dear friend Jim Dyke will officiate the service. Pat will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later day.

T. Michael RUSSELL AGE 63 - HOPKINS, MI

T. Michael Russell, known lovingly as Mike, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Hopkins. Born on January 9, 1963, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Paul and Naomi (Bailes) Russell. Excelling in athletics during his high school years, Mike wrestled and played football. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was an active member in the Otsego VFW Post #3030 and the Allegan American Legion. Following his military service, Mike began working as a truck driver before dedicating over two decades to serving as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Allegan County. In 2014, Mike endured a severe motorcycle accident that brought significant medical challenges, which he faced with courage and resilience. Despite these difficulties, he maintained his love for life and the activities that brought him joy, including camping, horseback riding, working on race cars, and most importantly, spending quality time with his friends. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Boylan, whom he married on June 8, 2019. Mike also leaves behind his children: David (Carol) Barber, Kayla Simpson, Lindsey (Timothy Jr.) Beebe, and Tristan Russell; 10 grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, and a celebration of Mike's life will take place at At the Master's Feet Discipleship Ministry at a later time. Contributions in memory of Mike may be directed to the Otsego VFW Post #3030.

On Sunday, May 24, 2026 Christians throughout the world celebrate a most important event on the church calendar – the birthday of the Church. The word Pentecost literally means “50th” or the 50th day after Easter which commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit. It was a day when a fearful group of disciples were transformed into bold apostles for Jesus Christ. Red is the liturgical color which symbolizes zeal and enthusiasm.

Before He left this earth, Jesus promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would come to take His place. The mighty Person of the Holy Spirit would fill them, teach them, empower them and help them to be founders of the Church of Jesus Christ on earth.

The amazing thing about Pentecost is that, for the first time, all languages of the earth heard the gospel in their own native language. Even more amazing is how the church grew rapidly throughout Europe. On that historic day, three thousand souls believed, repented of their sins and were baptized with water. The coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost validated the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, fulfilled His promise and inaugurated a new age in the history of the church known as the age of the Spirit. We are still living in the age of the Holy Spirit.

How can we best celebrate the birthday of the church?

1. By showing up for worship in person or on line.

2. By repenting of our sins.

3. By being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

4. By asking the Holy Spirit to fill us with His mighty power.

5. By witnessing to others our love for Jesus by our love, our words and our actions.

6. By offering ourselves in service to Jesus Christ.

7. By glorifying God in everything we say and do.

Prayer: “Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.” In Your strong name. Amen.

Shadow got the best outing this past weekend in his temporary foster home, complete with all his favorite things: people, dogs and a comfy bed. As a shelter resident since last July, it was a huge vacation for him! He played until he tired everyone out and found a dog bed for the taking.

His foster people said “He is an incredibly sweet dog with people once he settles in…becomes a huge velcro baby who wants to be near his humans constantly.” They also said “He loves other dogs and strongly wants to interact/play with them,” but he needs help understanding boundaries so would be best with a dog his own size and energy. Shadow even got to play fetch with a kid, what a time!
