Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came
So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe ” John 20:24-25
Even though I’m a pastor, I confess that blind faith is hard for me I have a tendency to be skeptical, sometimes even cynical, about things that sound too good to be true This is probably why I like doubting Thomas so much
But what I also appreciate about Thomas is that he wasn’t just a doubter, he became a detective Some people just doubt but never really investigate the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus, and trust me, there’s plenty Thomas starts poking around in Jesus’ nail-scarred hands and spear-pierced side for evidence that Jesus is really alive After Thomas the doubter becomes a detective, he becomes a disciple who exclaims to Jesus, “my Lord and God ” Perhaps it’s the former doubters who, after searching for truth like a detective, become the most committed disciples
So how can you know if Jesus is really alive in Allegan County, MI 2024? You don’t need to put your finger in Jesus’ wounds, but you can let him into your heart When that happens, he will replace despair with hope, sadness with joy, boredom with purpose, and fear with peace The best evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is the beautiful transformation of people who, like Thomas, make Jesus their “Lord and God ” That sort of evidence is undeniable
