Tom passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Alamo Nursing Home. He was born October 15, 1931, in Neon, Kentucky, the son of Sherman and Thursie (Akers) Potter. Tom served his country in the US Army. He had worked at Chrysler for 8 years, Eaton Corporation for 24 years and at Parker Hannifin for 13 years until his retirement in 1996. Tom was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., and NCAA Basketball team the Kentucky Wildcats. On May 24, 1952 in Detroit he married Mildred “Millie” Mullins who survives. Also surviving are his children, Annie (Roger) Kruithoff and Steve (Julie) Potter both of Alamo; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessey, Brock and Nolan; great-grandchildren, Presley and Paige and sister, Phyllis Duty. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Dwight “Tom” Potter and siblings, Cecil Potter, Mabel Lawson, Virgil “Joe” Potter, Elia Meade, Clifford Potter, Gracie Ruth Potter, Earl Potter, Bradley Gray Potter, Sherman Potter, Jacky Potter and Anderson Potter. Friends may visit with Tom’s family from 2-4 P.M., Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 29, 2019 with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Burial will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery in Alamo Township. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Tom may be made to Christian Neighbors. Verna left to be with the Lord on April 21, 2019. She died of natural causes, surrounded by her family, at the age of 86 years. Verna was a meek and humble, loving soul. Her family meant everything to her and she is deeply cherished by them. She took great pleasure in Pontoon rides, watching Detroit Tigers, reading and trying her usual luck at the Casino. Verna was born to Rolla and Iva Blanchard in Otsego, Michigan on July 21, 1932. She worked in manufacturing, and at several Bakeries. Verna spent the last six years of her life in Lapeer, Michigan, residing at Silver Maples, Senior Apartments. Verna was preceded in death by parents, Rolla and Iva Blanchard, Husband Robert (Bob) Anspaugh and Grandson, David. She is survived by her Brother, Dale Blanchard, her children: Son, Robert (Bob) Anspaugh and wife, Doreen, Daughter, Charla Ellery and Husband John, Daughter, Dawnna Immekus, and Daughter, Theresa Anspaugh along with many treasured Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. A Celebration of Verna's Life will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00pm First Congregational Church 120 W. Otsego Middle School's Reading Writing Workshop class hosted it's 2nd annual Walk for Water this past week. It was a 4 mile walk, and all the money the students raised went to Clean Water for the World, an organization in Otsego that provides water filtration systems to developing countries.

Have we ever doubted our prayers to God? Do we question God’s sovereignty in our crazy world?
It is not wrong to doubt. By definition, doubt is a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction. It is when we question whether something is true or not. When we doubt we are saying, “I’m not sure” or “I need more evidence.”
Tally was brought into the Allegan County Animal Shelter in June 2017 where she has been awaiting her forever home. This sweet tiger cat has a notched ear, and two paws tipped with a pretty orange color. A friendly kitty, Tally loves affection, but also likes to hibernate and take good long naps! She also gets along well with the other cats in the shelter.
Tally has been waiting patiently for a very long time for someone to discover how wonderful she is. Thomas is known as the doubting disciple. At least he was honest about it. Tennyson wrote, “There lives more faith in honest doubt, believe me, than in half the creeds.” Honest doubt is when we give ourselves room to believe. We are probably more like Thomas than we want to admit.
On the other hand, Thomas was a man of courage. When Jesus faced serious opposition in Jerusalem, it was Thomas who courageously stood by Him (John 11:16). Thomas could not live with unanswered questions. Thus, in the Upper Room he asked Jesus where He was going (John 14:5). Jesus’ answer is one of His most powerful statements, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Thomas was a pessimist. He had to see in order to believe. In one of His post-resurrection appearances to the Apostles, Jesus honored his request by inviting him to see and touch His sacred body (John 20:27). In an instant, Thomas saw and believed! (John 20:28). He became certain by doubting.
