We live in relationships. When we want to describe a close relationship, we may say, “As a couple, they are inseparable.” The same may be said of some friendships. Jesus often spoke of the special relationship He had with His Heavenly Father. He said, “The Father and I are one” (John l0:30). To know Jesus is to know God (John 8:19). One of the reasons His enemies turned against Him was His claim to be the Son of God (John l9:7). Jesus described His desired relationship with His disciples as a Shepherd and sheep (John l0) and as a Vine and branch (John l5). Shortly before His death He prayed for unity among all His followers, including us (John l7). Oneness with God is always tested. For example, some define sin as anything that separates one from God. Correction: Nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even sin. Another example is the hardships of life. In times of trials, suffering and loss, it is common for some to feel alienated from God. Nothing could be further from the truth. Apostle Paul was imprisoned, beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, hungry, cold, in danger, and close to death (2 Corinthians 11:23-27). Yet he felt close to God. Remember the testimony of Corrie Ten Boom, a prisoner of war in a World War II death camp. In her book The Hiding Place, she said, “There is no pit so deep that God is not deeper still.” Question: Does the term inseparable describe our relationship with God?

On April 6, a funeral service for Harley Seekman was held at Winkel Funeral Home. I wish to thank all who attended and had such nice comments about him. A special thanks to Wings of Hope Hospice, Pastor Greg Carlson for the wonderful service and to Judy’s friends who so graciously helped out in the kitchen. Harley was cared for so tenderly by Michelle Brumley and Jenna Knowles of Wings of Hope Hospice for eighteen months. He so looked forward to their visits. OBITUARIES Rodger Steven RIETKERK AGE 63 - PLAINWELL, MI
Rodger was born February 10, 1954, son of Bill and Maymie (Marlatt) Rietkerk. Rodger passed away at his home in Plainwell, MI Friday Morning, April 14, 2017. A graduate of Plainwell High School, he is survived by his Mother, Maymie Rietkerk, his first wife Darline Rietkerk and their children; Sarah Austin and Clayton Rietkerk, his wife Kay Watson and their children; Tamara/Kevin Dressler, Rebecca/Erik Colwell, Mary Kay Burley, Gordon Paul Burley, Chad/Kat Crow and Stephanie Crow. His Sister Rozann/Danny Osborn, and brother Douglas/Pamela Rietkerk of Minnesota. Grandchildren: Morgan Dailey, Kaitlyn Watson, Tate and Nevaeh Dressler, James, Michael, Genevieve and Isabella Colwell, April, Shelby, John Burley, Carl, David Burley, and Juniper Crow. His Nieces and Nephews, Joyce/David Amato, Steven Osborn, Greg/Patty Callum Osborn, Ceili Robinson, Anneke/Mark Riess, Liesl Rietkerk, Nathan, Ashley, and Ashton Yablonsky, along with his many adopted children. Rodger loved his family and friends, fishing, hunting, bowling and helping anyone he could, including mentoring and coaching Plainwell High School’s bowling league. He was a man of many trades in life, a bus driver for Plainwell Schools, mechanic for Plainwell Lanes, and a driver for Dave’s Towing to name a few. He was a loving father and a loyal friend to all who knew him. Rodger will be greatly missed and eternally loved by all. The family will be holding a memorial service and small luncheon on Saturday, April 29th from 1 to 3 PM at the Old Plank Road Restaurant at 137 N. Main St. in Downtown Plainwell. All who would like to join in remembering him with his family will be welcome, along with any pictures and stories you would like to share. Due to the suddenness of this death, donations will also be accepted to help defray burial cost.
