“We are fools for Christ’s sake …” I Corinthians 4:10 There are at least three kinds of fools: 1. “THE FOOL WHO SAYS IN HIS HEART, ‘THERE IS NO GOD’… ” (Psalm 14:1) Either we believe or we do not believe. C.S. Lewis, one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century, said “You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God.” 2. THE PERSON WHO PUTS GREED BEFORE GOD. (Luke 12:20) Jesus told the story about a farmer who was rich in things but poor in spiritual things. He was a good person who did good things, but God called Him a fool because he thought only of himself instead of God. It is not wrong to have possessions, but it is foolish when possessions have us. 3. THE FOOL FOR CHRIST (I Corinthians 4:l0) Many of the Jews in our Lord’s time on earth expected the Messiah to come as a conquering king, not as the Suffering Servant. They thought it foolish that the Messiah would die on a cross. But Apostle Paul’s message was that God “made foolish the wisdom of the world” (I Corinthians 1:20) by allowing His Son to die on a cross for our salvation. To be clear, humility was not a virtue in the ancient world. Whenever a believer follows the example of Jesus Christ, it may seem like foolishness in the eyes of the world. In the larger scheme of things, it is better to be a fool for Christ than a friend of the world. In this sense, foolishness can be seen as the wisdom of God. The passion of Christ (which we remember during the holy season of Lent) reminds us that truth will ultimately triumph over evil. In retrospect, God played a cosmic trick on His enemies by passing through death to eternal life. Prayer: “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength” (I Corinthians 1:25) Amen.

Requirements for RUBBISH PICK-UP
Please do not put refuse out before 3:00 pm the Sunday prior to April 10, June 12, August 14, and October 9. 1. All residents living on private roads must have the trash placed at the end of the road in a pile. 2. Refuse must be limited to what two men can lift. 3. Barrels with both ends cannot be picked up; land fills will not accept them. 4. All barrels, including barrels with trash in them, will be taken. Any barrel or container too heavy for two men to pick up will not be taken. 5. Trash piles should be located within easy reach from the road, not 20 to 30 feet, for the convenience of the trash haulers. 6. All objects must be bagged or put in containers that will be picked up. No loose materials will be picked up. 7. Containers must be left at curbside and they will not be returned. 8. Old appliances will be picked up if they can be lifted by two men. No refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners unless refrigerants are removed by a professional and tagged. Remember... Appliances can be recycled. 9. NO YARD WASTE! 10. NO BUILDING MATERIALS WILL BE PICKED UP 11. NO TIRES WILL BE PICKED UP 12. NO GARBAGE or container for food products will be picked up. 13. NO ROCKS, SAND, CONCRETE, RUBBLE OR DEAD ANIMALS will be picked up. 14. No motor oil or containers with liquids such as oil based and latex paint. Cans with dried paint are acceptable if lids are removed. 15. No call backs will be made if refuse is placed after the truck has serviced your house. 16. Complaints will be verified (field checked) by Township personnel and checked against driver’s log. 17. Any item not picked up because of the above reasons must be taken off the curbside and stored out of sight by noon of the day following each pick-up. 18. Strengthen Our Worship Through Forgiving Others By Pastor Darin Youngs
It is challenging enough for many people to get to church on Sunday morning as it is! What about when nature gets in the way? In 2012, 2 hawks built a nest on the roof of St Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. At first, the raptors above and the parishioners below peacefully coexisted. Soon, however, the birds of prey swooped down with talons extended, likely viewing the church-goers as threats to the contents of their nest. Unfortunately, two ladies received stitches on their heads due to the aerial attacks. After requesting help from the DNR, the church was told that no action could be taken, since the hawks were a protected species. Church members were advised to carry umbrellas when accessing the building. Maybe it’s not as difficult to get to church as we might think! What gets in your way? For us, the struggle for genuine worship only begins upon entering the sanctuary. Going through the motions of singing, praying, reciting creeds, or saying “amen” is not enough. Our hearts must be right for us to experience authentic worship. In Matthew 5:21-24, Jesus teaches that external righteousness alone is insufficient. Instead, our righteousness must also be inward, reflecting the true condition of our hearts. Jesus tells us that bitterness and persistent resentment is just as significant a problem as outward signs of violence. When bitterness is present, we barricade ourselves from whole-hearted worship. According to Jesus in vs. 23-24, forgiving, releasing our resentment, and reconciling with our brothers and sisters should occur before we enter God’s presence. It is the priority! Resentment keeps us from genuinely worshipping the Lord. To experience the strongest, most vibrant encounter with Christ possible, it is vitally important that we faithfully forgive others.

AGE 89 - OTSEGO, MI
Marie passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Life Care Center in Plainwell. She was born January 10, 1928 in Ganges, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond and Martha (Coon) Cooley. Marie was a 1946 Otsego High School graduate and for over 20 years had worked for Otsego Financial Office. She was a member of the Otsego Elks Lodge #1711, was active with the Otsego VFW Post #3030, had been a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego and enjoyed spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL. On August 1, 1947 she married Richard “Rip” Rouse who passed away in 2014. Surviving are her son, Rex Rouse of Otsego, son-in-law, David Goff of Centreville; 3 grandchildren: Richard (Jessica) Rouse of Kalamazoo, Tiffany Rouse of Otsego and Dave (Amy) Goff of Augusta, 3 great-grandchildren: Dillon Goff, Jacob Goff and Sylvia Marie Rouse. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Ronnie Rouse in 1963; daughter, Gail Goff in 2012; daughter-in-law, Mary Rouse; brothers, Lewis Cooley and Robert Cooley and sister-in-law, Barbara Michaels. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service was held Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, with Pastor Paul Laborde officiating. Contributions in memory of Marie may be made to the Life Care Center Hymnal Fund. Arrangements by Winkel Funeral Home Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com

Ron passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. He was born July 17, 1924 in Plainwell the son of Fritz and Lillian (Wigginton) Jager. He served his country proudly in the US Army during WWII. For many years Ron owned and operated a dairy farm. He was an avid horse lover and enjoyed pulling with his horses and showing them at the area fairs. Surviving are his companion, Jolene English; children, David (Nancy Jenney) Jager of Shelbyville, Dale (Vicki) Jager of Kalamazoo and Nancy (Michael Simon) Jager of Plainwell; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and siblings, Kenneth, Joyce and Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret. A funeral service was held Monday, March 27th at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. with a graveside service on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Military Honors by Otsego VFW Post #3030. Contributions in memory of Ron may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or Kairos Dwelling. Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com
