Born the 6th of 12 children, Chalmer Dyer was welcomed into this life by his parents Oscar & Laura (Patton) Dyer in Seitz, KY, on August 29, 1939 Delivered at home, it was not until the couple could reach the county registrar on September 21, 1939, that his birth was recognized and documented on record This led to a lifetime of two birthday celebrations annually, which his family never forgot Chalmer’s young childhood experiences were gathered on the family tobacco farm until their relocation to Tecumseh, MI, in the mid 1940’s Now in the Midwest, Chalmer spent his young adult life working many odd jobs from farm labor to tree nurseries and local manufacturing With a stroke of luck while playing poker with friends, Chalmer met his wife Kathleen and was married 4 years later on October 10, 1964 They then welcomed their daughter, Theresa Though his education ceased before reaching high school graduation, this did not stop him from achieving an American Dream and establishing his business, The Dyer Adult Care Home, in 1983, in Mason, MI In 1986, he and his wife relocated to Plainwell, MI, where they supported end of life care for many local residents until their early retirement in 1997 At a young age, Chalmer learned to play the guitar and could frequently be found with a group of family and friends singing around a campfire or cozied up in the home He enjoyed sharing his passions of gardening, farming, cards, mushroom hunting, cooking, and squirrel and rabbit hunting with both his daughter and grandchildren He never missed watching a Detroit Tigers baseball game and always disputed that they were superior to his wife’s favorite team, the Yankees He cherished his family above all and never ceased to support their endeavors Chalmer’s final days were spent in comfort at Centrica Rose Arbor, Kalamazoo, MI, closely surrounded by family and friends until his passing on January 19, 2025 Chalmer was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen (Salyer) Dyer, his parents Oscar & Laura (Patton) Dyer, and siblings Elmer Dyer, Marie Dyer, Tillie (Dyer) Guerin, Delmer Dyer, Molly Faye (Dyer) Waters, Denver (Denny) Dyer, Palmer (Pal) Dyer, Dalores (Dyer) Meacham, and Ernest (Erine) Dyer His memory lives on with his daughter, Theresa (Michael) Hughes; his sisters, Anna Mae (Dyer) Beazley and Miriam Joyce (Dyer) Ellison; grandchildren, Maj-Britt (Eric) Holmes, Jacqueline Martin, and Michaela (Kyle) Harrison; and his 5 great-grandchildren, Erica Holmes, Madison Holmes, Austin Holmes, Rayonna Smith, and Jeremiah Jones Per his final wishes, cremation has already taken place A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, 6942 Lindsey Road , Delton, MI 49046 on April 27th, 2025, at 3 p m A celebration of life luncheon will immediately follow at the Orangeville Township Hall l The family is being cared for by Avink, McCowen, Secord Funeral Home 120 S Woodhams Plainwel MI 269-685-5881

“HE HAS RISEN!”

“But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; for I know you seek Jesus who was cr ucified He is not here; for he has r isen, as he said ” ~ (Matthew 28:5, 6)

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is a glorious fact that sets Christianity apar t from all other world religions No other religion can claim that their founder died for their sins and rose from the dead to save them

The gospel writers describe it in different ways Here is the order Mark describes it as a personal experience (Mark 16:108) Luke gives a comprehensive account (Luke 24:1-48) Matthew describes it as an ear thshaking experience (Matthew 28:1-20) John wants us to know His resurrection is a proven fact (John 20:1-31) Yet, they agree on one impor tant truth: HE HAS RISEN! The human reaction shows a variety of emotions: terror, reverent fear, joy, worship, a foot race to the tomb, sur prise, astonishment, touch and talking it out The angelic commands were “Come in and see ” (Matthew 28:6); “Go quickly and tell ” (Matthew 28:7)

The message for us today is the same as it was on that first Easter “Go” “Tell” “Share ” As we say in our United Methodist Ser vice of Word and Table “Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again”

The only hope for our world and for our souls is the fact HE HAS RISEN! HE HAS RISEN INDEED!

Stanley Whyment, age 75, passed away April 11, 2025 He was born May 11, 1949 to Leonard and Velda (Pike) Whyment Stan loved being outdoors, deer hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and riding his Harley Easy-going, kind and loving, he enjoyed hanging out at The Barn having a cold one with his friends After many years together, Stan and Bev (Huddleston) were married May 22, 2009 Stan is survived by his wife and her family two nieces: Brenda Edwards and Susan Tittl and their families; special cousin Aaron Whyment; and like a son Aaron Shannon, many close friends and cousins He was preceded by his parents; sister Linda Taylor; and niece, Karen Taylor Per his wishes he has been cremated A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025 beginning at 3pm at the Gun River Conservation Club Arrangements by Joldersma

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? The worst movie I’ve ever seen is Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr The movie came out in 1998, the year Amy and I were married I had high hopes for a romantic night- this was before we had three kids in three years and had a forced five year sabbatical from romance to focus on changing diapers and filling sippie cups Back to the movie I was too upset by the acting and story line to be romantic Hope Floats has an approval rating of 26%, with a rating of 4 9/10, which is way too high in my humble opinion One critic states: "Hope Floats sinks under a deluge of melodramatic turns and syrupy sentimentality ” Ebert writes “the film has the emotional range of a sympathy card ” Another critic notes the film is “corny and false with a script that’s 100% artificial sweetener ” Let’s just say that Hope Floats didn’t float my hope for a romantic night with my wife!

TOP stands for Together Otsego Prospers. We are a 501(c)(3) Organization that works to bring joy, prosperity, and beauty to our community through volunteer-led events and development projects Thank You!

After Jesus’ crucifixion, some disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24 were feeling extreme disappointment The text says “their faces were downcast” because of the death of Jesus Well, the resurrected Jesus joined them, except they don’t recognize that the stranger walking and talking with them was Jesus And they say to Jesus about Jesus without knowing it was Jesus, “we had hoped he would be the one to redeem us ” Their hope that Jesus would be the one who would make life worth living was dead because they still thought he was dead Their hope in a better life, greater peace, and a sense of purpose didn’t float

As these two downcast disciples continued to walk and talk with Jesus, they eventually recognized him I don’t know how long it took before they realized the risen Jesus, their hope, was with them It might have taken two or ten or more hours The point is, the very thing hoped for was right in front of them and, at least for a while, they couldn’t see it Maybe you feel despair Maybe your hope is sinking not floating But maybe, just maybe the God who made you, knows you, and loves you is with you And if God is with you and you are with him, there is no such thing as a hopeless situation Hope floats when God is in life’s turbulent waters with you holding you close

COME WORSHIP JESUS WITH US THIS SUNDAY AT 10:40AM.

We are a friendly, but not smothering, growing congregation on a mission to love and ser ve our community Our worship ser vices are shor t but impactful

See you Easter Sunday at 10:40 as we worship Jesus, the only hope that doesn’t disappoint You are loved,
