William “Bill” ROHR AGE 64 - OTSEGO MI

William “Bill” Rohr, 64, of Otsego, Michigan, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident Monday, March 25, 2024, near Port Charlotte, FL

Bill was born on September 18,1959 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late George and Gertrude (Martell) Rohr of Alamo Bill graduated from Otsego High School in 1977 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Western Michigan University in 1985 Bill married Kimberly S (Watson) Rohr on January 18,1986 and celebrated 38 years of marriage in 2024 Bill retired from FlexFab, LLC in 2023 as Vice President of Human Resources after 20 years and a successful career in management and human resources Bill also worked at Harding’s Hill Inc , Spartan-Nash, and Perrigo Bill’s favorite pastimes included many outdoor activities such as deer hunting, fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, and sitting by the campfire enjoying time with friends and family He particularly enjoyed recounting his first professional baseball game experience at the 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series, where he caught Alan Trammell’s homerun ball He was a former member of the Otsego School Board and was a current member of the Otsego Township Planning Commission Board He also served on boards at the Congregational Church of Otsego and Trowbridge United Methodist Church Surviving is his wife, Kimberly of Otsego and their children, Emily (Charles) Watson stationed at Fort Eisenhower, GA, Kyle (Haley) Rohr of Gulf Shores, AL, Allison Rohr of Grandville, MI, Autumn Rohr (Danny Simon) of Cairo, OH; 8 grandchildren, Chase, Maverick, Meredith, Calli, Kinley, Waylon, Brynn, and Stevie B Bill’s siblings Linda (C A )

Mann Sandy was raised in Climax-Scotts and graduated from high school in 1961 She was a talented seamstress known for her exceptional work for individuals and retail companies Her skills as a seamstress were unparalleled, and she poured her heart and soul into every piece she created In addition to sewing, Sandy found joy in quilting pottery and reading Her creativity knew no bounds Described as a very funny, genuine, and happy person, Sandy touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness Her laughter was infectious, and her presence could light up any room She is survived by her loving children:

Jack R Campbell was born the 8th of 10 children to Winifred and Frank Campbell on August 27, 1944 He worked his way through high school and graduated in 1963 from Plainwell High He married Karen Seekman in 1965 Jack was a husband, father, and grandfather first and foremost He was also a lifetime hard worker whose willingness to help others will long be remembered after his passing on April 4, 2024, at Rose Arbor after an illness Since the early 1960 s Jack spent his time working in various grocery stores from the role of butcher to sales In the 1970’s to late 80’s Jack and his wife Karen owned and operated Brookside Market in Otsego In his later years he worked as a contractor with VanDam and Krusinga Jack’s role as father to Russ and Sherry and later grandfather to his beloved grandchildren Kera, Jackson and Nicholas is what brought him the most joy and happiness His love, humor, teasing and generous spirit to his family will be remembered by all Jack was a character We have heard the stories of mischievous acts growing up, crazy stories of card games gone awry up north with friends, and the antics of physical activities spurred on by dares Jack was the consummate handyman, there was never a job too big or too small he wouldn’t try! He built two of his homes He had so many tools and the inventory kept growing His favorite pastime was to roam the aisles in Menards and Lowes He had enjoyed visiting with friends and family He loved cold beer and grilled rare steaks He looked forward to going out for breakfast with friends and family As his children, he taught us to have a strong work ethic He was always available to lend a hand on any project we dreamt up! Timothy “Tim” Lee Vargo, age 67, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away at home on Sunday, April 7, 2024 Tim was born on February 7, 1957, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Shirley (Retherford) Collins He graduated from Plainwell High School with the class of 1975 Tim furthered his education at KVCC, earning an equivalent of an associate degree in pre-nursing He was accepted into nursing school, a testament to his academic potential Tim's faith was a cornerstone of his life He found solace in attending the Stones church with his mother, reading the bible, and other devotional readings Jesus became the center of his life His faith in Jesus transformed him into a better person, a loving family man, and a friend This is the legacy he wished to leave behind He wanted his family to know he was at peace with Jesus and encouraged them to continue their lives, assuring them that he would watch over them from Heaven as their Angel Tim's love for his family was profound, and he took immense pride in their strong bond He often fondly recalled the moments they spent together, underscoring the significance of family in his life Tim never missed his Sunday phone calls with his children and family He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and U of M football Tim is survived by his mother

A life well lived Born May 20, 1946; Died April 9 2024; Kalamazoo Daughter of Ellsworth "Fritz" and Marion (Gundry) Leland Ann amassed the most truehearted friends a person could hope for on their journey, which was a direct reflection of her personality As her Parkinson's progressed, her valued family members and friends offered her much needed support and comfort She was a playful, imaginative, adoring grandmother always delighting in stories of her grandchildren's latest antics She was a supportive wife, mother, and mother-in-law, and her family feels a deep sense of gratitude for her love The room would light up with laughter and happy childhood memories when she was with her brother and sister Ann was a graduate of Otsego High School and obtained her master's degree from Western Michigan University As an adored 1st and 2nd grade teacher in Otsego Public Schools for over 30 years, "Mrs Arnoldink" taught hundreds of children how to read and inspired them to be life-long learners At the end of each summer she would thoughtfully prepare her classroom for a new group of students whom she would fill with love and knowledge In addition to her devotion to her students, friends, and family, she found joy in quilting riding her bike reading a good book, meeting with her cooking group, and watching college basketball and football She maintained her sharp memory, and her quick wit kept us laughing until the end Her love and light will live on through the lives she touched The daffodils were blooming when we said our goodbyes A private family burial will be taking place Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years Fred Arnoldink brother John (Mary) Leland, sister Kathryn (Ron) Lutz, son Brian (Sarah Wisniewksi) Arnoldink, daughter Sarah (Derrick) Mullins, and grandchildren Olivia, Eva, Madelynn, and Finnley Ann was dedicated to the advancement of childhood literacy, so in this spirit, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Otsego Public Library Children's Department

Moses was called by god to lead the Hebrew people out of egypt, through the wilderness, and to the promised land of Canaan the wilderness took longer to get through than anyone expected, 40 years to be exact Where would hundreds of thousands of people find food in the dry, foodless wilderness? In exodus 16, the Hebrews grumbled against god and Moses for leading them out of slavery in egypt and into the foodless, drinkless wilderness they just saw god do miracle after miracle to set them free from slavery Unfortunately, they had the short-term memory of a toddler 45 days after their miraculous exodus from egypt, they forgot that the god who rescued them could be trusted to provide for them And god did provide exactly what they needed, exactly when they needed it He provided bread called manna in the morning and birds called quail in the evening the food came out of nowhere, just enough and just in time No one starved to death in the wilderness over the course of 40 years

As I reflect back on my life, I am amazed by how god provided exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it When I enrolled at college, I knew I couldn’t afford to attend But I applied trusting god to somehow, someway provide He did! the college gave a large grant that covered the entire cost of tuition to one student who was studying to be a pastor I was selected When I needed a friend to help me through a tough time, god provided one When I needed an encouraging word to keep me growing and going, god would nudge someone to send a text, email, or card that lifted me god has provided peace in some of the most painful moments of my life He has provided direction when I wasn’t sure which way to go god has recently provided me with a meaningful way to serve him by opening the door for me to pastor First Congregational Church and love the people of Allegan County

Why do I worry and fret? the god who provided exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it so many times in my past, will provide in my future Will you join me in trusting that the god who made, knows and love us, will provide not what we want when we want it, but what we need when we need it He is just that good!

Ewart Jerome (EJ) Hart, age 76, of Plainwell Michigan passed away in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 10, 2024 He was born on July 9, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan to Ewart Hart Sr and Patricia Hart EJ graduated from Portage Central High School in 1965 and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Thomas He pursued his education at Western Michigan University, where he earned a Master's Degree in International Business EJ and Audrey settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where they welcomed their two daughters, Erin and Nikki While in Kalamazoo, EJ worked at Jud Knapper's clothing store and Newhouse Printers Supply The family later moved to Madison, Wisconsin until his father passed away in 1981 They returned to Michigan and EJ took over the family business, Hart's Jewelry, in Plainwell A passionate jeweler, EJ delighted customers with unique designs and special pieces EJ was deeply involved in Plainwell community affairs He coached his daughters' soccer teams, tended goal as part of an adult soccer club, and served with the Downtown Development Association In his free time, he enjoyed bicycling to South Haven and his yearly “Tour da Up rides Alongside Audrey, he supported Sylvia's Place, a shelter for women and children as well as the The O'Leary Foundation, an organization dedicated to the support of programs in human services, education and health care initiatives EJ was preceded in death by his parents, Ewart and Patricia Hart, and his wife, Audrey Hart He is survived by his sister, Judy Labs (Doug), daughters Erin Bolda (Chris) and Nikki Hart-Brinkley (Matthew), grandsons Damien Hutton, Ethan Bolda, Jeremy Bolda, and Elliot Brinkley, niece Beckie Labs, and nephew Charlie Labs A visitation to celebrate EJ's life will be held at Winkel Funeral home in Otsego, Michigan on Monday, April 22nd from 4pm - 7pm In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sylvia's Place

Eloise Helen Doster, passed away on February 14, 2024, in Plainwell, at the age of 101

Born on November 12, 1922, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, to loving parents Mose and Cora (Metz) Burden, Eloise’s journey through life was marked by unwavering faith, family devotion and compassionate service Eloise was the heart and soul of the Doster family, embracing her role as a spouse to her beloved husband, the late George B Doster, and as a mother to her six children: Rita (John) Wells, George Scott Doster, Millard Doster, Jade Harrington, Kim (Nancy Jo) Doster, and Mark Doster Her loving presence will forever be a treasured memory for her thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six greatgrandchildren, and one great-great- grandson Eloise also shared a special bond with her niece, Bonnie (George) Purlee, her extended family of nieces, nephews, and a circle of good friends who will miss her dearly Her life was enriched by and now is succeeded by these many loving relatives and friends, though she now joins her parents, husband, brother Scott Burden sister Maxine Johnston son-in-law Bill Harrington, daughter-in-law Sue Doster, and grandchildren, Dan and Erin Roth, in eternal rest Eloise's commitment to her community was unwavering as demonstrated by her 65-year tenure as a founding member of the Doster Reformed Church She was an active member of the Fifteen Friends Club, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and served as a 4-H advisor With a passion for history and storytelling, Eloise authored three poignant books detailing the life and times of Doster, the Reformed Church, and the family’s farm Eloise relished the pleasures of socializing, cooking, and tending to her flowers and garden She found great joy in playing cards with friends and reveled in the simple beauty of living on the family farm A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on

She was one of the greatest saints who ever lived She was a 20th centur y icon in the world of religion Among her awards were the Nobel Peace Prize and Pope John XX111 Peace Prize She, of course, was Mother Teresa, an AlbanianIndian Catholic nun and founder of the Missionaries of Charity She gave her life to “the poorest of the poor” and was canonized into sainthood by Pope Francis in 2016

Yet her letters, which were released ten years after her death, revealed an internal struggle She wrote to a friend: “Jesus has a ver y special love for you, but as for me, the silence and emptiness is so great, that I look and do not see, listen and do not hear – the tongue moves in prayer but does not speak ”

Let me be quick to add her letters do not in any way diminish her ser vice to God However, it does raise the question, “Is it wrong to doubt?” This brings us to the disciple of our Lord known as “Doubting Thomas ” The great Bible commentator, William Barclay, said Thomas “was the disciple who became cer tain by doubting ”

To be human is to doubt Doubt can arise from any number of causes such as tr ying to reconcile human suffering with a loving God If we have ever doubted we are in good company including Moses, King David, Peter and, of course, Thomas In the case of Thomas, our Lord did not condemn him for his doubts but rather accepted his renewed confession of faith

2 DOUBT CAN BE A SIGN OF COURAGE

What many do not know is that when Jesus set His face to go to Jerusalem, it was Thomas who said, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him” (John 11:16) After His resurrection, Jesus was willing to pass through locked doors a second time for a courageous man who needed to see in order to believe (John 20:26-28)

3. DOUBT CAN LEAD TO FAITH.

Over the centuries someone coined the phrase “Honest Doubt ” This is the act of pursuing truth with an open mind The Life Application Study Bible says: “If doubt leads to questions and questions lead to answers and the answers are accepted, then doubt has done good work ” The opposite of faith is not doubt The opposite of faith is unbelief Jesus said, “ Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed ” (John 20:29)

After 30 years of dedicated leadership at Christian Neighbors, our Executive Director, Terri Shaler is retiring in May of 2024.

Terri began her career at Christian Neighbors in June 1994 when she became Treasurer and then became the third Executive Director in Christian Neighbors history in January 1998, and has served in this capacity since.

During Terri’s tenure as Executive Director, Christian Neighbors has become an ever-brighter beacon of light in our surrounding communities. It’s hard to imagine now, but in 1998 she started her Executive Director role in 2 small offices in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Center in Otsego, and the food pantry was a small shed in the parking lot. As the food pantry expanded, so did additional services to include emergency financial assistance and most recently the addition of an Education Resource Center.

It is evident to all who know Terri that she invests in staff, volunteers, donors, and our clients. Through it all, Terri has been a prayer warrior, faithful steward, and selfless leader. She is leaving a wonderful legacy.

“Through the length of time I have served at Christian Neighbors, I have been able to see our vision for helping families come to reality. I can happily pass the baton, knowing the infrastructure and the best people are in place to carry our vision forward. I thank God for His guidance and for the faithful people who partnered with me along the way, so our communities are blessed through the mission of Christian Neighbors for the glory of God.”

Welcome our new Executive Director... Jennifer Collins

Jennifer graduated from Plainwell schools. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Western Michigan University, with a minor in Marketing. She also earned a Business Analytics Certificate from Grand Valley State University.

Jennifer previously owned a catering business and also brings a vast set of non-profit experience to Christian Neighbors. She served as the Director of Operations and Marketing for Michigan Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). As the Marketing & Growth Director for Allegan County Community Foundation (ACCF), Jennifer helped lead the organization’s marketing and growth strategies.

According to Jennifer, “Christian Neighbors is a legacy organization in our community. I look forward to sustaining and growing the impact this organization has for our friends, family and neighbors in times of need.”

Christian Neighbors SE has been serving the Alamo, Cooper, Martin, Otsego and Plainwell communities since 1983. The mission of Christian Neighbors is to provide local families in need with food, emergency financial assistance, skill-building education, and other resources offering stabilization.
