This poor puppy was brought to the Allegan Shelter on 7/22/23 Tango is estimated to be bor n 10/9/22 so he s spent almost half of his life in the shelter He has no idea how good l fe can be! Tango was brought to the Allegan Shelter as a stray puppy who was just old enough to be over looked In the care of the Wishbone/Allegan Shelter team, he has been neutered, microchipped, brought up to date on vaccinations/prevention, and loved beyond measure Tango is a fr iendly playful smar t pup who loves play ng with all kinds of toys (soft/squeaky are the best) and going for walks with the shelter volunteers He loves to ear n and wil be a lot of fun to tra n! Tango loves people but can be a bit war y meeting some men (especially those with beards) Though he s initially fearfu of some men, he war ms up to respectful guys who let him set the pace and give him tasty treats including the male staff and volunteers at the shelter This adorable dog could join an active home that includes other dogs, kids, and potentially cats Tango loves play ng with puppy fr ends at the shelter and would be happy to have a doggie sib ing to play with in the family A home with kids 8 years and up would be a good fit Tango has met a few cats at the shelter and is interested in tr ying to play with them, but is always more interested in the person holding his leash and getting snuggles so his attent on s easy to redirect A slow introduction between new dogs and cats is always recommended Apply to foster or adopt terr ific Tango Please fill out an adoption application at: wishbonepetrescue org

Greg passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at his home in Battle Creek He was born April 7, 1959 in Plainwell, the son of Robert and Mary (Coburn) Morris Greg was a gifted musician and loved playing the guitar He played lead guitar in the band Mid-Life Crisis in Grand Rapids for 11 years and belonged to several other bands over the years Music was Greg’s passion but he also loved animals He was quick to care for any cat or dog in need He also enjoyed camping with his wife and spending time with his family On March 11, 2011 he married Diana Lancaster who survives Also surviving are his step-children, Josh (Katie) Lancaster, Jessica (Brian) Fitzgerald, Justin (Heather) Lancaster and Jeffrey (Jill) Lancaster; step-grandchildren, Caleb, Chloe, Alexandra, Aiden, Sienna, Cohen, Lillian and Valerie great-grandson, Grayson; siblings, Michael (Lorna) VanLent and Cherie (Joe) Reiss along with several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents According to his wishes cremation has taken place

Ruth Barrows, born October 14, 1930, passed away on March 4, 2024 She grew up on a farm near Shelbyville and later graduated from Wayland High School In May of 1950, Ruth married Bernard Barrows, and they raised four children: Kathy Claus (Phoenix, Arizona), Bruce Barrows (Plainwell), Susan Root (Delton), and David Barrows (Plainwell) Ruth was a grandmother to five grandchildren Kyle, Jessica, Gordy, Jocelyn, Michael and seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Blake, Alexandra, A J , Matthew, Leo, and Milo, whom she enjoyed spending time with Ruth's life was rich with simple joys She found solace in her hobbies of reading, gardening, and cooking Her green thumb and generous spirit led her to volunteer for several years for the City of Plainwell planting flowers in the spring and tending to gardens at various locations, including the Wedgewood Condominiums and Stanford Lodge Assisted Living, where she spent her final years Ruth's culinary skills were legendary among her family and friends, with her homemade dinner rolls, baked beans, and holiday treats becoming cherished traditions After becoming a widow in 1979, Ruth supported herself through her work in home health care and in the kitchen at what was Cunningham Nursing Home in Plainwell Her resilience and work ethic were truly admirable Beyond her talents and accomplishments, Ruth was known for her kindness and generosity She had a compassionate heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, whether it was driving a friend to a doctor's appointment or preparing a meal for a neighbor Her legacy of compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, her parents Gordon and Helen Culver, and her brother Russell Culver The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Stanford Lodge and Centrica Care (Hospice) for their compassionate care during Ruth's time there In accordance with Ruth's wishes, there will be no formal service Instead, her family invites friends and loved ones to honor her memory in their own special way Ruth's spirit will forever be remembered and cherished by all whose lives she touched

Mary passed away on March 2, 2024 She was born on December 5, 1933, in Deweyville, Ohio to parents Daisy and Rolley Cunningham She was preceded in death by her son Jeffery; two brothers: Walter and Arthur, and a sister Ruth, as well as a dear aunt, Florence, and her Uncle Joseph Mary is survived by her three children: Mitzi, Timothy and Steven; her daughter-in-law Sue and many nieces and nephews Mary graduated from McComb High School in 1951 She married Jim on August 10, 1952 In 1979 she graduated from Pine Rest School of Nursing with an LPN degree Mary and Jim had a strong love for their family and friends They loved traveling and have visited all of the states except Alaska and Hawaii They have traveled to some European countries and have taken several cruises In the later years, they settled down in Plainwell, Michigan where they belong to the First Presbyterian Church of Plainwell Their church family was very dear to them Mary belonged to the Red Hat Society, TOPS 610 and was a charter member of the GFWC at Gun Lake, which was started by Joan Weick Mary wrote for the Gun Lake news and for the Wayland Globe She cherished her family and friends and loved to laugh and make the best of any situation She had a strong faith in God and believes that love never dies and we will all be together again in Heaven God held her hand and took her Home Following her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no funeral services will be held Her wish for you is that you live your lives to the fullest In lieu of flowers, please do something kind for someone in need

People keep their distance from Jesus for a var iety of reasons including unbelief, fear of commitment, indifference and pr ide A deeper question may be why people once committed to Him, would want to withdraw from Him? Wor ldly a l l u r e m e n t s, u n a n swe r e d q u e s t i o n s, h u m a n suffer ings, disappointment and disillusionment may also play roles in moving away from Jesus T h e r e a l q u e s t i o n i s : H ow c a n we s t ay c o n n e c t e d w i t h J e s u s ? H e r e a r e s o m e suggestions
FOCUS
What we focus on is what gives life meaning In the stor y of Jesus walking on water, Peter is invited to get out of his boat and walk towards Him When he took his eyes of Jesus, he began to sink (Matthew 14:22-32) This is what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus
FAITH
“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and cer tain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1) The bottom line question: What do we believe? Do we believe Jesus is the Son of God? Jesus said, “Wherever two or three are gathered in my name there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20) Bill Br ight, founder of Campus Cr usade for Chr ist, used the analogy of logs bur ning on a fire together If one is put aside on the cold hear th, its fire will go out Thus, God commands us to not forsake “the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:25)

Jesus said, “I no longer call you ser vants Instead I have called you fr iends, for ever ything that I lear ned from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15) Like any fr iendship, our relationship with Chr ist is nur tured through prayer and studying God’s Word
Prayer: My prayer is that during these holy days of Lent, we will deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ In His strong name, I pray, amen
When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jer usalem 14 In the temple cour ts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple cour ts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and over tur ned their tables 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop tur ning my Father’s house into a mar ket!”

REFLECTION: The temple was designed by God to be a tool to facilitate communion between God and people But the temple of Jesus’ day was more of an obstacle between God and people The religious leaders were over-charging people for animal sacr ifices People coming to worship at the temple couldn’t purchase an animal at a r ural Walmar t where they could get a good deal Worshipers had to buy their sacr ifice in the temple because those animals were pre-approved or, better, pr iest-approved And the pr ice for the animals sold in the temple was mar ked up substantially Religious people and practices that were supposed to facilitate communion between God and people had actually become a barr ier between God and people This is why Jesus got so upset Many of us have exper ienced barr iers to communion with God, even in the church today Don’t get me wrong I love the church I’m a pastor, after all The most beautiful humans I know, I have met in a church Some of the greatest good that has been done in the wor ld has been done by the church But there are many, many people among our family and fr iends who came to a local church to commune with God and found needless barr iers The barr ier was not the over pr icing of animals Some of the barr iers that get in the way and cause church hur t are hypocr isy, in-fighting, greed, division, and judgmentalism to name a few I don’t know of any Chr istian, myself included who has not exper ienced some of these church hur ts And if I’m being really honest I have been guilty of some of these barr iers due to my immatur ity and selfishness Lord, Jesus, forgive me Dur ing this Easter season, many people who don’t often venture into a church take the r isk by attending on their quest to find the God who made, knows, and loves them My prayer is that the church I ser ve, First Congregational Church of Otsego, and the churches I ser ve with in our community would par tner with Jesus to remove any church barr ier that might get in the way of hungr y souls tr ying to connect with God After all, at Easter we especially remember how Jesus expended blood, sweat, and tears to remove barr iers and reconcile humanity’s hope with God’s hear t
PRAYER TIME: Lord forgive us for the needless barr iers we have put on the pathway of people wanting to commune with you Empower your Church with compassionate courage to remove those barr iers In the name of Jesus, Amen
