The Monday after Easter is considered a holiday in Poland. Dyngus Day was started as a way to provide merriment after the seriousness of Lent comes to an end. Dyngus Day is traditionally the day boys tried to catch the attention of girls by throwing water on them or hitting their legs with twigs or pussy willows. Tuesday is the day of revenge for the ladies throwing crockery and dishes at the boys.

Dyngus Day is a commemoration of the birth of Christianity in Poland (966 AD) in which Holy Baptism was administered on Easter Monday, uniting all Poland under the banner of Christianity.

OTSEGO TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS 2013 RUBBISH PICK-UP DATES: APRIL 8, JUNE 10, AUGUST 12, OCTOBER 14 Pick-up will begin Monday at 7:00 AM

Requirements for RUBBISH PICK-UP

Please do not put refuse out before 3:00 pm the Sunday prior to April 8, June 10, August 12, and October 14.

1. All residents living on private roads must have the trash placed at the end of the road in a pile.

2. Refuse must be limited to what two men can lift.

3. Barrels with both ends cannot be picked up; land fills will not accept them.

4. All barrels, including barrels with trash in them, will be taken. Any barrel or container too heavy for two men to pick up will not be taken.

5. Trash piles should be located within easy reach from the road, not 20 to 30 feet, for the convenience of the trash haulers.

6. All objects must be bagged or put in containers that will be picked up. No loose materials will be picked up.

7. Containers must be left at curbside and they will not be returned.

8. Old appliances will be picked up if they can be lifted by two men. No refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners unless refrigerants are removed by a professional and tagged. Remember... Appliances can be recycled.

9. NO YARD WASTE! 10. NO BUILDING MATERIALS WILL BE PICKED UP 11. NO TIRES WILL BE PICKED UP 12. NO GARBAGE or container for food products will be picked up.

13. NO ROCKS, SAND, CONCRETE, RUBBLE OR DEAD ANIMALS will be picked up.

14. No motor oil or containers with liquids such as oil based and latex paint. Cans with dried paint are acceptable if lids are removed.

15. No call backs will be made if refuse is placed after the truck has serviced your house.

16. Complaints will be verified (field checked) by Township personnel and checked against driver’s log.

17. Any item not picked up because of the above reasons must be taken off the curbside and stored out of sight by noon of the day following each pick-up.

18. If your rubbish has not been picked up by Friday 9:00 am, please call the Township Office, 694-9434.

Jerry worked as a Glazier and Trade Show Worker with union membership.

Jerry’s greatest gift was his sense of humor with an amazing ability to make people laugh. Jerry leaves behind his son, Darrin who he loved very much.

AGE 49 – DELTON

Rod passed away suddenly March 23, 2013.

He was born September 23, 1963, in Plainwell, the son of Roger and Linda (Leach) Swinehart. A 1982 graduate of Delton Kellogg High School, Rodney was a former employee of Preferred Plastics. On October 1, 1988, he married the love of his life DeEtte (Dee) Baker, who survives.

Rod is also survived by sons: Kody and Casey Swinehart, a daughter, DeEtte Robin Swinehart, two grandsons: Jayce and Ryan, his mother: Linda Swinehart, his uncle: Richard Leach, siblings: Robin Swinehart, Ronda Swinehart, Rick (Donna) Swinehart, Jay Swinehart, Curtiss Swinehart, Linda Swinehart, Tyrone (Shelly) Swinehart, and Christine Swinehart, brothers-in-law: Richard (Kenda) Baker, Daniel Baker, Dave (Lenona) Baker and Doug (Missy) Baker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins that meant the world to him. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Roger, a son, Ric, a brother, Preston and a nephew, Preston Swinehart. Rod loved his family more than anything. He also loved hunting with a passion, softball, mushrooming and running the roads in the middle of the night. If anyone needed help they could always call Rod. He was a friend to everyone and everyone was his friend. He took great pride in each of his children, and loved being a grandpa. Our life with him has been a great adventure. Well Rod, you get to continue your great adventures with Ric, your dad and brother. Tell Ric and my Mom and Dad I love them for me. Our lives will never be the same without you, Dee. Rod’s family will receive friends Thursday, April 4, 2013, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home in Delton. A memorial service will be conducted, Friday, April 5, 2013, 3:00 PM, at Faith United Methodist Church, 503 S. Grove Street, Delton, Pastor Jeff Worden, officiating. Burial will take place in Brush Ridge Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, please consider memorial contributions to the Rod Swinehart Monument Fund.
