When you get to where this road will take you, there will be no gathering of old friends, and talking about the good old days. The Bible says that you will be cast in a world of outer darkness, and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Life is not a one way street. You can stop, turn around, and go in a new direction. You can't do this on your own….only by the Blood of Jesus. Without Jesus, there is no hope in life, only life. The Bible says in John 3:13-21 that God so loved the world. The world that God loves is not a place; it is you and me and everyone standing around each of us all over the world. We are the world that God so loved that He gave his only begotten Son for - each and every one of us. There is no other way to heaven, but by the Blood of Jesus. There is nothing that says you and I will see the sun go down today or rise tomorrow. There is something that says when you reach that point in our life, and you call out to Jesus, saying "Lord, help me and save me. Lord forgive me for the sin that I have done. I need you," He will be there. What tells us that is the word of God. It is in your Bible. It has never changed, and never will. You will find a great friend in the word of God and his name is Jesus. Don't let someone spend their life in sorrow over you because of your pride.

LaVerne David Brown, 88, passed away peacefully March 2, 2022 near his home in The Villages, Florida. Known as Verne, Dad or Grandpa to his loved ones, he will be deeply missed. He was a quiet man always ready with a quick smile or a tight hug. Verne was born on Mother’s Day, May 14, 1933 to Reon & Velma Brown and raised in Plainwell, Michigan. He loved sports, playing football, basketball and running track throughout high school, even winning a state medal for the 440 relay. He went on to Michigan State University on a ROTC scholarship and remained a Spartan fan throughout his life. He graduated MSU as a mechanical engineer leading to his 30 year career at General Motors. He loved cars and tinkering with most anything. After college, he served in the Army & Army Reserves rising to the rank of Captain. Verne raised his family in Rochester, Michigan. When we think of him, we often thought, “he who dies with the most toys wins”. He loved his toys. We always had a boat, spending two weeks every summer water-skiing at Higgin’s Lake and snowmobiles, spending many weekends in Cadillac, Michigan. We will hold these memories close as we mourn his loss. He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Carol Hood, his children, Dave (Julie), Jeff and Jude (Sal). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Derek (Brandy), Torre (Kelsey), Nick and Kyle (Caitlyn) his great-grandchildren, Cole, Ray & Kate as well as his sister, Bea (Wayne) and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held March 22, 2022 Final resting place at Hillside Cemetery. Len LESMAN
AGE 78 - KALAMAZOO, MI Len passed away March 16, 2022. He was born March 27, 1943, to the late Leonard and Helen (Williamson) Lesman in Kalamazoo. Len struggled with Pulmonary Fibrosis the last year of his life. After working for his father at Lesman’s Market in his teen years, Len drove a bread truck for Roskam Baking Co.; a milk truck for Koning Dist. Co.; Ice Cream for Bareman Dairy, and his two last jobs (which he loved best because “I didn’t have to load the trucks”), were driving for Mall City Container and Panse Greenhouse. He loved to mow lawns after buying a Zero Turn and joined a group of guys who faithfully mowed the grounds (rain or shine) at Camp Michawana near Hastings every Thursday (after breakfast in Delton). Len loved eating breakfast out with the different groups of guys. In his early years of marriage, he drove the Sunday School bus for Bethel Baptist Church as well as enjoyed playing softball and bowling on the church league, which he continued to do after his retirement. He loved trains, and car and tractor shows. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathy; their daughter, Susan (Jim) Wilkinson in WV; sons, Bob (Angie) and Steve (Jamie); five grandchildren: Jacob, Wylie, Jordan, Nick and Ainsley; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Jim Lesman. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Road, Kalamazoo on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Visitation at 10 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. and luncheon following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: Camp Michawana, 5800 Head Lake Road, Hasting, MI 49058, in memory of Len. Early in our ministry to churches I invited a seminary friend to be our guest speaker. He was good at drama and did a dramatic reading of James Weldon’s popular poem entitled, “The Creation.” Near the end of the poem God looks over God’s creation and feels lonely as though His creation is incomplete. The poem ends with the words, “toiling over a lump of clay, till He shaped it in His own image; then into it He blew the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Amen. Amen.”
At that very point a young child in the congregation spontaneously cried out in a voice that was heard by everyone present, “Is he God?” A child’s voice was like an explanation point to the dramatic presentation. I have never forgotten her words. In a strange way, this makes me think of the words of the centurion at the cross of Jesus.
As the chief officer of our Lord’s execution, he makes one of the most surprising statements in the entire Scriptures. Over hundreds of years theologians have debated it, agnostics have questioned it, and unbelievers have rejected it. Yet the one voice that is heard more than any other over the centuries is the voice of a centurion!
