AGE 56 - PLAINWELL, MI Mary passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born August 31, 1969, in Plainwell, the daughter of Earl and Carol (Williams) Strope. Mary graduated from Plainwell High School in 1987. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary liked relaxing in the sun, collecting gnomes, following U of M football and always had B93.7 playing her favorite country music. Surviving are her children, Sal Gomez of California, Sierra Tank of Plainwell and Shane Tank of Otsego; 2 grandchildren, Mayla and Frankie with another due soon; her siblings, Jim Ebrite, Julie House, Earl Strope and Gordon Strope along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Ebrite. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Kathleen “Kathy” L. BROCK AGE 69 - PLAINWELL, MI
Kathy Brock passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2026, at Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born on August 22, 1956, to Walter and Vivian (Walters) Reed, in Plainwell. Kathy graduated from Otsego High School in 1974 and proudly served her country in the US Navy. She then attended beauty school and opened her own hair salon in Otsego, later operating out of her home. Kathy enjoyed doing puzzles, yardwork, bird watching, reading, and taking care of animals. She also liked doing arts and crafts, including ceramics and pottery. She took pride in keeping her house clean and organized. She was a member of the Otsego American Legion, where she held leadership roles. In November 1994, she married Ronnie Brock, who survives. Also surviving are her stepson, Ronnie Brock Jr.; her siblings, twin sister Karin (Al) Laws, Larry (Sherri) Reed, and Loren (Cynthia) Reed, along with 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law and sister-in-law, Debbie. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Kathy’s family from noon-3pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego. Burial of ashes with military honors will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery. Soup Supper Benefit for Christian Neighbors
Thomas Duane Manning, 72, of Otsego Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on December 19, 1953, in Three Rivers, Michigan to Kleo (Yeomans) and Richard Manning; later loved and supported by his stepfather Donald Cahow Sr. Though he never liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his many years of love honored. He was a hardworking, kind, and generous man who would always brighten up the room with his smile, never met a person he wasn’t willing to help, and left a lasting impact on everyone that knew him. Tom moved to Otsego as a child, where he graduated from high school in 1972. Shortly thereafter, he began his long (40+ year) career at ParkerHannifin, where he was widely respected and admired by his coworkers. He was known for always being the guy to step up, especially when it was a job others didn’t want to take on themselves or later in his career where he would take weekend shifts so other young parents could spend time with their families. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and always called Mackinac Island his “happy place.” A lover of the outdoors, Tom enjoyed spending time in the fresh air – nature walks, long bike rides, or simply sitting on a patio or deck and taking it all in. He was also a diehard sports fan, particularly the Detroit Lions, which he passed down to his kids – thanks a lot, Dad. Though he never saw them win the big one, countless hours were spent surrounded by loved ones yelling at them through the TV. Most of all, he enjoyed the simplest thing in life – spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Jim Langdon of Otsego, MI, Rick Banks of Otsego, MI, and Terry Banks of Otsego, MI; and his granddaughter, Sierra Fetterolf. Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Sherry Manning of Otsego, MI; his 3 children Nichole (Drew) Warner of Lake Leelanau, MI, Justin Manning of Seattle, WA, and Jamie Manning, of Otsego, MI; sisters Pat Langdon of Otsego, MI, Sue (Terry) LaForest of Muskegon, MI, and Pam (Terry) Morse of Plainwell, MI; his grandchildren Shelby Fetterolf, Noah Fetterolf, Emma Fetterolf, Eli Warner, and Maya Warner; and his siblings-in-law Deb (Steve) Boyer, Sheryl (Jeff) Pirrone, Todd (Chris) Banks, and Patti Banks. Per his request there will be no services or funeral. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 4pm-6pm at the VFW Post 3030, Otsego, MI. In lieu of flowers, Tom asked that donations be made to Wings of Hope hospice in Allegan, MI. A special thanks to Tom's nurse, Jenna and all of the staff for their help. Bruce D. Culver passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Kalamazoo. He was born on October 20, 1931, in Martin, the son of Burt and Theresa (Fox) Culver. Bruce was a lifelong resident of the area and owned and operated his family farm for his entire life. He also spent 30 years as a commissioner for Allegan County Road Commission and was a member of the CRASIF state board for 15 years. Bruce was committed to helping his community and served on the Martin School Board for 10 years and held the position of president. A man of faith, he was a Deacon and active member of the Watson Bible Church. In his free time Bruce enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, woodworking, reading and playing cards. He was an avid Michigan State basketball fan and liked watching sports. On June 15, 1951, he married Deloris Tiller. Together they shared 74 wonderful years filled with travel across numerous foreign countries and winters in Anna Maria Island until her passing in July 2025. Bruce found great joy in spending time with his family. Surviving are his children, Bruce Jr. (Donna) Culver, Charles (Mary Breier) Culver and LeAnn (Ron) Keyzer; 5 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; Terri Culver and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Burton Culver along with 3 aunts and an uncle. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Watson Bible Church. Private family burial will take place at East Martin Cemetery. The question is not what others think of Jesus. What matters most is what we think of Him. Who do you say that He is?

Ever play hide and seek? Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, tried to hide from God. Never a good idea! God created a perfect world in His perfect love. No depression, no disease, no disaster, no death. And it would stay that way as long as Adam and Eve could love the God who loved them enough to obey His one command‐ "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die" (Genesis 2:16‐17). You know what happened. Those first humans weren’t satisfied with the fruit from the hundreds, maybe even thousands, of trees and went after the fruit from the one tree that was off limits. Humans! That’s when Adam and Eve tried to play hide and seek with God. After they ate the forbidden fruit, “they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” (Genesis 3:7). They tried to hide from God and each other their naked shame behind skimpy fig leaves. Ever since then, we humans have been prone to fig‐leaf it through life. What are the fig leaves we wear? We try to hide our naked insecurity, inferiority, and inadequacy behind the fig leaves of accomplishments, appearance, and abilities. This is why when someone asks, “how are you doing,” we are tempted to answer with a fig leaf response. “I just got a promotion” (accomplishment). “I lost 20 pounds and got a new car” (appearance). “I finished building a gorgeous deck” (abilities). These things aren’t bad unless we use them to hide our true self from God and others. The problem is that the fig leaves we wear prevent the intimacy we crave with God and people. Fig leaves can keep us from the healing of our wounds. God won’t heal what we hide. Also, in time we can lose our true selves behind the fig leaves. Take off the fig leaves. God loves you just as you are, with all of your naked insecurity, inferiority, and inadequacy. You don’t have to earn His love with your accomplishments, appearance, and abilities. God can’t love you any more than He has from the day you were born naked and leafless. See you Sunday! Pastor Lenny Luchetti
