Nancy A. JENNEY

AGE 65 - PLAINWELL, MI Nancy passed away on December 29, 2025, at her home in Plainwell. She was born in Plainwell, the daughter of Donald and Sally (Myers) Jenney. Nancy dedicated herself to her career as a waitress and bartender, serving patrons at various establishments in the area and in Florida. Nancy found joy in the simple pleasures that life had to offer. She had a passion for flowers and plants and loved working in her garden. She enjoyed socializing and cherished moments spent with family and friends, especially during family gatherings. Nancy found adventure in riding 3 wheelers and loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. Nancy is survived by her fiancé, David Jager; siblings: Robin Matthews, Lincoln (Simone) Jenney, and Kelley (Michael) Helmboldt, all of Plainwell; niece and nephews, Hailey, Donald and Zach; along with several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Cap Johnson. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held in the spring. Nellie Irene Tripp passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Alamo Cove in Kalamazoo. She was born November 26, 1929, in Battle Creek and was raised by her grandmother, Mabel. For over 25 years, Nellie worked at Allegan General Hospital as an admitting clerk until her retirement. She was an active member of the Allegan Seventh Day Adventist Church where she had served in many leadership positions. In her free time Nellie enjoyed crocheting, gardening, singing hymns and playing the piano and organ. On January 25, 1948, in Grand Rapids, she married Richard Tripp who passed away in 2006. Surviving are her children, Ronald Tripp of Allegan, Philip Tripp of Portage, Mary Summers of Plainwell, Jonathan Tripp of Allegan and Charles (Karen) Tripp of Allegan; grandchildren, Jim Tripp, Mindy (Kirtis) Carpenter and Scott Tripp; great-grandchildren, Sierra Tripp, Julie, Alec, Joel and Justin Carpenter and Jack Tripp; 2 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Bob and Jim and son-in-law, Dave Summers. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Mallory Cemetery in Trowbridge Township, with Pastor Dan Rocher officiating. Martha passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her home in Otsego. She was born on January 21, 1933, in Delton, the daughter of Carl and Margarethe (Marx) Adams. For over 27 years Martha worked at Gibson Guitar, retiring when the company left the area. Martha was a life member and past Regent of the Otsego Moose Lodge. In her free time, she loved golfing and in her younger years enjoyed fishing. On July 9, 1976, she married Thomas Karkau who passed away in 2007. Surviving are her children, Darl (Karen) Doubblestein of Luther, Juanita (Doubblestein) Hendrixson of Otsego, and Steven Doubblestein of Otsego; stepchildren, Terri Karkau of Washington and Kristin (Dave) Goodman of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Elman, Donna Dean and David Adams along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughters, Danielle Docekal and Meichen Plumhoff; son-in-law, Doug Hendrixson and her 5 siblings, Ginny, Vi, Bill, Colonel and Carla. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at a later time along with burial of ashes at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Robert F. LeDuc passed away on December 25, 2025, at Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born on July 1, 1941, the son of Louis and Antoinette (Mogielski) LeDuc in Chicago, Illinois, where he spent his younger years and later built a successful career as a welder in commercial construction until his retirement in 1994. Bob had many interests throughout his life. He enjoyed coaching softball when his children were young and was a skilled woodworker. He liked gardening and found joy and adventure as part of a hot air balloon crew, contributing his skills to many flights. Bob’s true passion was his family. He cherished the moments spent with his wife, Catherine Biesterfeld, whom he married on November 17, 1962, in Elmwood Park. Together, they raised a family that was the cornerstone of his life. Bob is survived by his children: Bob (Kattie) LeDuc of Illinois, Sheryn LeDuc of Plainwell, Julie Harlan of Portage, and Karyn LeDuc of Plainwell; his grandchildren, Zoe, Max (Cristina), Autumn (Steve), Madaline, Mackenzie, and Malena and great-grandson, Nathan In addition to his devoted family, he is remembered by his brother-in-law, Russell, and sister-in-law, Jayne, along with their families. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later time. George FULLER, Jr. George passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, at Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Plainwell, on January 15, 1948, to George and Dorene (Collick) Fuller. With a big personality that lit up every room he entered, George was known for his love of people and his warm-hearted demeanor. He worked at Burger King in Plainwell during the 1990s, where his engaging spirit won the hearts of many. In his later years George enjoyed crocheting and doing word search puzzles. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members, all of whom will carry fond memories of his light-hearted nature and caring ways. George was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Linda Sparks, Phyllis Phelps, Sue Cardiff, and Norma Todd and his brother, James Fuller. Friends may meet with George’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Mike Risner officiating. Let’s start by talking about the season of Epiphany. The word Epiphany comes from a Greek word meaning “manifestation” or “appearance.” This season commemorates the time when the Wise Men came to adore the Christ-child (Matthew 2:11). They were from various races and nationalities. This meant that the gospel of Jesus Christ would not be limited to Jews only but also open to Gentiles. This was in fulfillment to Isaiah’s prophecy “Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn” (Isaiah 60:3). Thus, non-Jews would also have “a hope and a future.” Now, let us talk about our future. When we have God in our lives we have hope because God is hope (Romans 15:13). There have been many stories about people who were ready to give up but were inspired by hope to go on. One such story is about a man named Henry P. Crowell (l885-1944) who had tuberculosis. In those days there was no cure for the dreaded disease so he traveled west to die. The train he was on stopped at a station where he noticed a “For Sale” sign on a nearby grain mill. That was the beginning of Quaker Oats. He was highly regarded as a Christian businessman in the early 20th century. He made a fortune, overcame his tuberculosis disease and lived past the age of ninety. This is not to suggest that we will become rich and famous as long as we have hope because hope has nothing to do with who we are but Whose we are. As long as we have God in our lives, our future will be in good hands. Trusting God for our future is like walking through the woods on a dark night with only a flashlight to guide the way. The light will only shine so far. As we walk in His light, more light is given to show us the way.

A brief history....

The Community Shoppers Guide was founded and published in 1940 by Howard Bargwell. He did all the work by hand. The paper was distributed once a month to approximately 1000 Otsego residents for free. The paper changed ownership through the years, and was bought in 1945 by Grant “Mack” Bennett. He increased circulation into Plainwell and delivery to once a week, distributing to approximately 3500 residents. In 1970 computerized typesetting was offered and purchased to improve the publication. Circulation was increased to 8500 residents. In 1974, due to the high costs of the postal service, the Community Shoppers Guide started its own delivery system. In 1975 it relocated to the Downtown Otsego office that it is currently in now. Ron Bennett, Mack’s son, took over ownership in the early 1980s. Then, Ron’s son, Marty Bennett, took over in the early 2000s.
