We have family connections… Facebook connections … and work-place connections, to name a few. Sometimes the term is used in terms of influence. Yet there is something better than “having friends in high places.” It is having a Friend in the highest place. In the Christian faith it is not about knowing the right people; it is about knowing the right Person. It is not what we know but Who we know that counts. And that is the purpose for this column. It is about connecting with God. God made our bodies unique. The old spiritual says it all: “The toe bone connected to heel bone, The heel bone connected to the foot bone, The foot bone connected to the leg bone, Oh, hear the word of the Lord!” God made the Church a living organism and called it the Body of Christ. In Colossians 3:14 we read, “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” The word “binds” in the original Greek language is the same word the Greeks used for ligaments. Ligaments (love) holds the body together; enables the body parts to work; gives the body its ability to move and function; gives power, direction, unity, coordination and grace. The reason it is so important to stay connected to Jesus is because He is our only connection to God. Our connection to God is life-giving, lifechanging, life-saving, life-sustaining … and it lasts forever! In the very first book of the Bible we read, “In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1). And the best way to begin the New Year is with God. Thought: Faith is our link to God. Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to keep our connection to You fresh and vital every day. Amen.

~ OBITUARIES ~ Judith A. COBURN AGE 73 – ALLEGAN, MI
Judy passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at home in Allegan. She was born May 22, 1942 in Allegan the daughter of James and Lois (Mellon) Newton. Judy had been the assistant dietitian at Ely Manor Nursing Home for 14 Years. In her spare time she enjoyed painting and had even sold some of her artwork, she also liked to go fishing and take rides on her golf cart as her animals followed behind. On September 1, 1961 in Otsego she married Clinton Coburn who survives. Also surviving are her children, Julie Hatfield and Troy Coburn both of Allegan; grandson, Justin (Crystal) Hall; great-grandchildren, Alex Larriuz and Kane Hall and her mother, Lois Newton. She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Jackie Newton. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will take place at a later time.
