“being bor n again” (John 3:3) Bir th leads to growth I recall the words of our Seminar y President on the first day in his class on “The Life and Wor k of the Minister ” He stated, “For the next three years you are going to be hear ing a lot about growing in grace ” Spir itual growth is never instantaneous In Mar k 4:28 we read, “For the ear th produces fr uit itself; first shall be the blade and afterward the ear, then finally the full wheat in the ear” which means there are no shor t cuts to Chr istian matur ity Here are some daily exercises we can do to grow our faith:

1 Find a quiet place where we can focus on God “Be still and know I am God” (Psalm 46:10)

2 Begin our prayers by praising God “Enter his g a t e s w i t h t h a n k s g i v i n g a n d h i s c o u r t s w i t h praise ” (Psalm 100:4)

3 Make our requests known to God “Do not be anxious about anything, but in ever ything by prayer a n d p e t i t i

r requests to God” (Philippians

If you want to enjoy sausage, don’t watch it being made It’s gross and messy If you want to enjoy Church, don’t watch disciples being made up close and personal It’s messy! The most beautiful parts of humanity I have witnessed, I have seen in the Church I have also seen the underbelly of the Church Trust me, it’s not pretty

There have been a few times as a young Christian and even as an experienced pastor, when I have contemplated quitting the Church The Apostle Paul describes the Church as holding “treasure in jars of clay” (1 Corinthians 4:7) Christ is the treasure in the Church, but that precious treasure is contained in “jars of clay,” broken and fragile people like us who make up the Church And that’s the rub

So why stick with the Church despite all of the reasons not to? “Because Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25) But the Church is full of hypocrisy, at times more full of gossip than goodness, more sinful than sanctified True Yet, there’s no getting around it Christ loves the Church, despite all of the reasons not to And if Christ, who is perfect, can love the imperfect Church, who are we “jars of clay” not to love the Church?

Here’s the payoff When we love what Jesus loves, namely the Church, we get to experience imitation of Him and intimacy with Him To become like Jesus is to love what He loves We imitate Jesus when we love the Church The other benefit is that when we love what Jesus loves we experience intimate friendship with him If you want to be my friend but constantly criticize or reject my wife whom I love, there’s no way we are going to be friends How can we expect to deepen our friendship with Jesus if we criticize, reject, or quit his bride- and the Church is “bride of Christ”?

Our ser vices are shor t but impactful We also have a fun-filled and safe program dur ing that time for kids ages 0-10

If you find yourself starving for more intimacy with God, try loving what he loves, try loving the Church despite all of the reasons not to COME WORSHIP JESUS WITH US ANY SUNDAY AT 10:40AM
