WHAT IS A DECOMPRESSION SESSION LIKE?

Typical patients find spinal decompression to be a relaxing, painless procedure that in most cases can be completed in a few weeks on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed with the patient fully clothed and is safe, painless and extremely effective. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the procedure. Each session has a cumulative effect designed to significantly reduce pain and improve function as patients progress through the decompression program.

How Does Decompression Work?

Non-surgical Spinal Decompression is a pain free procedure designed to relieve pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves. As pressure builds inside the disc it causes bulging of the gelatinous material inside the disc. This jellylike tissue can be placed under so much pressure that it can cause the annulus, or outer band of the disc, to rupture. When the disc has ruptured or ‘herniated’, it may create pressure against one or more of the spinal nerves which can cause pain, weakness or numbness in the neck or back that can radiate into the legs or arms. Non-surgical Decompression creates negative pressure within the disc, causing the herniation to be drawn slowly back into the disc space, thus relieving the pressure, as it rehydrates the disc. Midway through the treatment protocol, the formation of Collagen begins to take place in and around the disc. These ‘sticky’ cells have the ability to form other cells including chondroblasts or baby cartilage cells. These cells help the disc to heal.

I had an MRI taken and they found several damaged discs in my neck. I agreed to try it. I decided to make an appointment with Albrecht Chiropractic Office PC and got in within a matter of days. After talking to them and having x-rays taken, they found one leg to be shorter than the other and we decided to try a treatment. After that first treatment my feet were better. Then they told me about spinal decompression as an alternative to the surgery for both my neck and low back. It was only a fraction of the cost so I decided to try it. Rebecca “Becky” SULLIVAN AGE 64 - OTSEGO, MI

Rebecca "Becky" Sullivan passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 6, 2026, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was born on December 5, 1961, in Livingston County, Illinois, to Max and Doris (Heiken) Reeser. Becky was married in 1995 to her husband Jim and put up with his antics for 30 years. Becky took immense pride in her role as a mother, attending every event for her 3 daughters and celebrating their milestones with joy and enthusiasm. Becky found joy in family camping trips, sunny beach days, boat rides, and the satisfaction of completing puzzles. She loved a cheesy Hallmark movie and was an avid reader. She was a part of several book clubs through the years. While fighting cancer, she gave her full effort and attention to life. She had a long-time group of girlfriends that she would see often for dinners and girl’s trips. Becky worked in internal procurement for several IT companies over the years. Becky is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Jim, and her three daughters: Dorie (Nick Weirick) Sullivan of Grand Rapids, Jamilyn (Joe) Valdez of Grand Rapids, and Abigail Sullivan of Otsego. In addition, she leaves behind brother-in-law Scott Gregory along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her caring parents, her sisters Kimberly Gregory and an infant sister, Jennifer. Friends may visit with Becky’s family starting at 10am on Thursday January 15, 2026, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11am, with Rev. Fr. Jack Pfeiffer officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at St. Margaret Cemetery at a later time. Contributions in memory of Becky may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. Arrangements by

AGE 97 - DELTON, MI

Robert Phillip Brown, age 97, of Delton, Michigan, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at his home. The son of James W. & Gladys (Kreighbaum) Brown, he was born on March 14, 1928 in Otsego, Michigan and was raised in Cheboygan, Michigan. He graduated from Cheboygan High School, where he lettered in four sports, and was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Woodcock. Robert was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following the war, he earned a degree in Mechanical Drafting at I.T.I. in Chicago, Illinois. For 40 years he worked throughout the local area as a sales engineer for a number of companies that specialized in architectural building products, retiring from Vos Glass, Inc. in Grand Rapids in 1995. In 1947, he married Barbara Cook of Cheboygan, and they divorced in 1972. He then married Frances K. (Campbell) Bush in 1973 and together they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage. “Brownie” was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast and loved downhill and cross country skiing, ice skating, canoeing, hiking and camping. He loved to wood carve, especially duck decoys, which he entered into numerous contests. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Fox and Phyllis Bennett; two daughters, Barbara Jo Sanford and Kathy Atkins; and two grandsons, Chad Atkins and Mark Brown. Surviving are his loving wife, Fran Brown of Delton; his children, Patti & Denny Keith, Jim & Nan Brown, Steve & Janet Brown; two sons-in-law, Jim Sanford and Earl Atkins; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Honoring Brownie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be lovingly scattered on family lands.

June Burge, age 93, went to be with her Lord on January 7, 2026. June was born July 27, 1932, in Livingston Kentucky to Felix and Ethel (Langford) Brock. June was the middle child of three children: Thelma, June and Goldie. When June was still young, the family moved to Michigan where she attended school in Plainwell. In 1984 June married Donald Burge. Unfortunately, Donald passed away on November 16, 2019. June was a member of the First Congregational Church in Otsego. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles as well as golfing and exercising, which usually took the form of spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and her sisters as well as her two sons: Greg Stopher and Brad Stopher. She is loving remembered by her daughter Deborah Kilgore; her grandchildren: Angela (Ron) Brierly, Greg Stopher Jr., Chad (Ann) Stopher, Scott (Anne) Stopher, Russ Weller and Nicole Coryell. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and her loving dog Heidi. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church in Otsego. Alva W. “Woody” JUSTICE AGE 78 - SHELBYVILLE, MI

Virginia passed away Monday January 5, 2026, at her home in Plainwell. She was born July 15th, 1940, in Bank Township, Michigan, the daughter of Ernest and Christina (Toringa) Brown. In 1959 Virginia married the love of her life, James VanDeWege III; together they raised 5 children. Virginia worked at Checker Motors, Unwinder, Meijer and also did in home healthcare. As a young woman, Virginia enjoyed playing basketball and was a catcher for her softball team. In her free time, she bowled on area leagues several times a week. She also enjoyed square dancing, playing bingo, keeping her flowers looking beautiful, playing the organ and cards. Virginia loved spending time with her family and kept the pool open all summer for them to enjoy. She also liked giving advice over family meals. She had a generous heart and would help anyone in need. Virginia is survived by her 5 children Rick VanDeWege, Susan (Doug) Worden, Jimmy (Tina) VanDeWege, Jodie (Kurt) Darrow and Steve (Shelley Hinkle) VanDeWege; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sisters June and Betty along with several nieces and nephews. Woody passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at U of M Health West in Wyoming. He was born October 25, 1947, in Greenup County, Kentucky, the son of Ruben and Exie (Barker) Justice. Woody proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. For over 20 years he worked at Kono’s Inc. in Martin, until his retirement in 2015. Alva was a life member of the VFW Post #3030 and enjoyed fishing and gardening. A true family man Woody loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He also liked following baseball, basketball and football and watching Westerns. On November 2, 1984, in Allegan, he married Linice Pence who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeff (Angel) Justice, JayCee (Jay) Raab, Bill (Jaime) Justice and Rebecca (Zach) Moored; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Loretta Whitmore, Linda Whitmore and Bob (Jaye) Justice; brothers-in-law, Jack Powell and Dick Johnson; sister-in-law, Janice (Mike) Cooper, along with several nieces and nephews. Kelly C. Brown, born on September 6, 1984, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Corewell Health Royal Oak. She was the beloved daughter of Russell and Marilyn (Jacobitz) VanDenBos and a proud Plainwell High School graduate of the Class of 2002. Kelly furthered her education at Grand Valley State University. Those who had the privilege of knowing Kelly remember her as a truly one-of-a-kind individual. The name Kelly means “warrior woman”, and she lived up to her name, facing life with strength, courage, and an unbreakable spirit. Her loving nature and willingness to help anyone in need endeared her to many. Kelly had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved and valued, a testament to her vibrant personality and profound kindness. Kelly’s greatest pride and joy were her three sons: Hunter Lasala, Liam Lasala, and Blake VanDenBos. Each of her boys was cherished beyond measure, and her relationships with them, as well as with her family and friends, were filled with joy, kindness, and unwavering love. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and the bonds she nurtured will forever be treasured. Kelly is survived by her children, Hunter, Liam, and Blake; her parents, Russell and Marilyn; her brothers, Danny (Jessica) VanDenBos of Clarkston and Jeff (Teresa) VanDenBos of L'Anse; her niece and nephews, Leo, Alex, and Zoey; and her partner Michelle Brown, along with her children Madison, Josiah, and Jessica. Throughout her life, Kelly enjoyed numerous hobbies, particularly spending time at the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan and indulging in downhill skiing. Her spirit for adventure and her love for nature only magnified her infectious joy for life. As we remember Kelly, we celebrate the lessons she imparted through her actions: the importance of love, compassion, and strong familial bonds. Her legacy will live on through the hearts of those she left behind, a warrior woman whose impact will never be forgotten. For many years Carole worked as a pharmacy tech at Campbell Pharmacy in Plainwell until her retirement in 2015. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, traveling, shopping and taking care of her dogs. In 1974 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, she married Keith Budweg who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Melissa (Andy) Wheeler, grandchildren, Dillan Budweg and Chloe Wheeler; brothers, Robert Griesmeyer Jr. and Dennis Griesmeyer along with several nieces and nephews. When it comes to commitment to Christ, are you a chicken or a pig? The chicken gives a part of herself, laying eggs here and there. But the pig gives himself entirely, becoming bacon! When it comes to my commitment to Christ, do I give just a part of myself, or do I give my entire self to Him? In Luke 9:57‐62, Jesus invited a guy to be a disciple saying, “follow me.” That was a formal invitation from a rabbi to a would‐be disciple. But the guy replied, “I will follow you but first let me go and bury my father” (Luke 9:59). We can’t really follow Jesus with a big ol’ “but first.” Jesus, I will give myself entirely to you but first let me build my nest egg…but first let me figure out my career…but first let me enjoy this pleasure that is destroying my body, mind, and soul. Compare the would‐be disciples of Luke 9 with the disciples of Matthew 4. When Jesus said, “follow me” to brothers named Peter and Andrew who were fishermen, we read “at once they left their nets and followed him” (Matthew 4:20). No “but first.” No procrastination. No delay. Going a little further, Jesus found another pair of brothers, James and John, who also owned a fishing business and said, “follow me.” Their response? “Immediately they left their boat and their father and followed Jesus” (Matthew 4:22). They left their financial security (fishing business) to follow Jesus with wholehearted commitment. Why? Because to them, Jesus was worth it. Every single time I responded with a “but first” to a call from Jesus to “follow,” I regretted it, often deeply. But every time I accessed the grace to leave my nets and boat to follow Jesus, I was so glad I did. Why? Because intimate nearness to Jesus brings more joy, peace, and purpose than the nets and boats of the world. You are loved, Pastor Lenny Luchetti
