Have you seen 119 W. Bridge St, downtown Plainwell lately? The old Warnement building has been transformed into a restaurant and distillery! Owners Mark and Lisa Meszaros announced the opening of Mosaic Distillery with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, October 3, 2025. Whenasked what inspired them to start the Mosaic Distillery, Mark and Lisa answered that it was a combination of their "mutual love for food and high quality spirits, the talents of their children, and their own shared love of the arts.” They offer fresh farmto-table dining that highlights Michigan agriculture as well as hand craft cocktails that are made from their own twice-distilled, house-crafted vodka.
Their location at 119 W. Bridge St. allows them the space to distill on site, cook on site, host an outdoor spirit garden and make plans for even more in the future. Stop in to check out their food and drinks! Their hours are Tues./Wed./Thurs. 4pm-10pm and Fri./Sat. 4pm-11pm. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

William D. WELCH AGE 64 - ALLEGAN, MI

William D. Welch, 64, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025. Bill, also lovingly known as “Fid” by family and friends, was born at home on April 11, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gail and Nancy Welch. Bill enjoyed life and he loved being outside. He loved hunting and fishing and collecting anything, “Mr. Collecto”. If he wasn’t busy with hunting, fishing or with his dog, Jaeger, he was swinging his nunchucks—he was the master of nunchucks. Bill was so loved and will be so missed by his family and friends. Bill is survived by his mom, Nancy Videnieks of Batesville, AR; beloved daughter Kanisha (Byron) Oisten; brother, Micheal (Scott) Welch; sisters, Susie Curtiss and Vonna (Todd) Anderson; three grandchildren, Byron Jr, Noviah and Tateum; a special long-time friend/partner, Stephanie Oisten; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jaeger. Herbert "Herb" Leon JOHNSON AGE 89 - ALLEGAN, MI

Herbert “Herb” Johnson passed on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Herb was born to his late parents Verlin and Eva (Burke) Johnson on May 14, 1936, in Allegan, MI. After graduating from Bloomingdale High School, Herb earned a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University, and then a master’s degree in education from Michigan State University. Herb then began teaching at Martin High School and remained there until his retirement 33 years later. While at Martin, Herb taught office practices, accounting, typing and was a beloved track and basketball coach. In 1986, he was honored as coach of the year. Herb was later inducted into the Martin High School Hall of Fame. Herb was competitive and loved coaching as much as teaching and guiding his students and players towards successful lives. Outside of teaching, Herb, with his brothers Ken and Jim, enjoyed playing golf. In 1967, Herb designed a layout for an 18-Hole golf course. The brothers then bought property in Cheshire Township, built and opened the first 9-Holes in 1972, calling it Cheshire Hills Golf Course. A few years later, they added another nine to make 18-Holes. In the early 90’s, a driving range and nine more holes were added creating the present day 27-Hole layout. Herb was also passionate about Camp Kidwell in Bloomingdale, MI, believing in their mission serving youth while being an active board member, fundraiser, and donor. Herb was an avid sports fan. He loved watching and attending the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, and his Spartans. Herb was a kind, driven, and hardworking man who leaves a legacy of generosity in his wake. He is survived by his brother Kenny (Marcia) Johnson; nieces and nephews Alan (Terri) Johnson, Melissa Johnson, Blythe Cummings, Dean Johnson, Justin Johnson and Beth (Mike) Day; great-niece Tiffany Johnson and special family members Steven, Brianna and Eastyn Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents Verlin and Eva and brothers, Jim Johnson and Harry Johnson. A celebration of life will take place on June 13, 2026, at Cheshire Hills Golf Course. Details to be announced as the date approaches

Gary Royston, age 74, of Plainwell, MI, passed away at his home on October 30, 2025. He was born in Plainwell, MI, on September 2, 1951, the son of the late Jesse and Pauline (Collins) Royston. Gary was kind, loving and genuine. His outgoing personality and great sense of humor made him a joy to know. As Gary would say, “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.” He worked hard to provide for his family, and his home of fifty-three years always had an open door and welcome sign. When not working he enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Above all Gary loved his family and was an involved father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. To know Gary was to love him and he will be missed. On September 19, 1970, he married the love of his life Ginger (Prolo) Royston who survives. He is also survived by three children, JoAnn (Michael Ransbottom) Leonard, Levi (Amy) Royston, Dan “Otis” (Stacey Kent) Royston; five grandchildren, Olivia (Michael) Lang and Amelia Royston, Logan and Owen Leonard and Jax Royston; great-grandson, Payton Lang; several siblings, in-laws, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by two brothers, Norman and Robert Royston. In accordance with his wish cremation will take place and a gathering to honor and celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to DC Strong, c/o the funeral home.

When he returned home, they settled in Plainwell and he was a turbine operator for the papermill for many years. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dianne; his son Richard Andrews II and his daughter Doris (Paul) Swiontek. Roy C. BELLINGAR
AGE 86 - OTSEGO, MI

Roy C. Bellingar, 86, went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, Roy lived a life grounded in hard work, faith, music, and the simple joys of the outdoors. Roy married the love of his life, Willa “Jean” Terry and together they shared 65 years of steadfast partnership. He built a proud career as a small-business owner, running his own drywall company and earning a reputation for craftsmanship and integrity. Beyond work, Roy found joy in hunting, golf, playing cards and cribbage, the occasional trip to the casino, and dancing—especially with Jean. Music was another constant in his life. He played country and gospel alongside Jean and dear friends in their bands, The Amazing Grace Gospel Band and many other bands over the years, sharing songs of hope at churches and community events. He also appeared for nine seasons on the gospel TV program Sister Margaret’s Gospel Hour. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Martha Bellingar; brothers, Robert and Raymond Bellingar; and son-in-law, Walker Toddy. His legacy endures in their lives—in every laugh around a kitchen table, every well-told story, and every song that stirs your heart. “KEYS TO THE KINGDOM”
– PART 8
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
~Matthew 5:10-12
By Rev. Dan Minor -

Considering all of the Beatitudes, this one is the least attractive. That is because no one wants to be persecuted in any way, shape or form. The fact is Jesus never promised an easy life. The disciples gave their lives. The early Christians lived daily under the cloud of persecution. They suffered physical, emotional and political persecution. Over time, emperor worship emerged. The choice was clear: Caesar or Christ? Those early Christians were courageous and brave. Their loyalty to Christ was unwavering and they paid the price for it.
In today’s world we cannot imagine being persecuted for believing in Jesus Christ. Someone raised the question, “If you were persecuted for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” The good news is that Jesus has promised to be with us during good times and in bad times. God’s grace is sufficient for all of our needs. The blessing comes when we know we do not suffer alone and that one day we will be rewarded. Jesus said, “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven.”
In summary, the Beatitudes give us keys to living the Christian life. Hungering for God, mourning for sins we have committed, meekness, the desire for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart and peacemaking are qualities of Christian character we must all desire. Jesus ended these sayings by offering a word of hope to those who have suffered greatly for their faith. Jesus said these things as One who gave the supreme sacrifice by dying on the cross for our sins.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to ever remain faithful to You. In Your strong name. Amen.

Love, Mark
It's been seven years since God called you home… hard to believe. My heart has healed in these seven years but there is a huge scar leſt. I think about you every day, all day, wondering what God has you doing. I miss our times of traveling, motorcycling, and just being together and talking. The house is silent now, no music from your keyboard, no singing, no conversation. I miss you more than ever. Until we meet again-
If you’re a parent like me, you want your kids as they grow older to become less reliant on you and more independent. You want them at some point to get a job so they can pay for their cell phone and auto insurance. As they grow older, you shouldn’t have to keep their calendar for them, clean their room, give them a bath, or brush their teeth. The more our kids mature, the less dependent they will be on us.
But in the Christian life, it’s the opposite. One of the signs of spiritual maturity is deep reliance on our Father, God. And one of the marks of spiritual immaturity is the arrogance that deceives us to thinking we don’t need God. King Asa in 2 Chronicles 14-16 is a case study for both reliance and arrogance. For most of his life, Asa was reliant on God. When faced with a mighty Cushite army that outnumbered his army 2:1, “Asa called to the Lord his God and said, ‘Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you’” (2 Chronicles 14:11). As a young king, Asa was reliant on God. But then something shifted in his soul.
In the 36th year of King Asa’s reign, another mighty nation came against him and the people of Judah. This time, instead of relying on God through prayer, Asa arrogantly takes matters into his own hands. Instead of relying on God’s presence and power, he arrogantly relies on his possessions and political connections. “Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad, King of Aram” to purchase his alliance (2 Chronicles 16:2). Asa didn’t pray at all. He chose arrogance over reliance, and it destroyed him. Let’s learn from Asa’s huge mistake.
God can be trusted with your life. When a challenge, conflict, illness, or trial comes your way that’s too big for you, remember it’s not too big for God. A while back my wife and I bungy jumped in New Zealand. We signed the waivers, had the cord tied to our ankles, and we jumped. We blindly trusted a bungy cord we didn’t test and bungy jump workers we didn’t know, some of whom looked like they just got out of prison for manslaughter. If we can rely with our lives on an untested cord and really strange strangers, why wouldn’t we rely on a God who has been there for us every step of the way? And how do we rely on God when faced with a challenge? We pray firstly (priority), fiercely (intensity), and frequently (consistency). Want peace? Pray.
You are loved, Pastor Lenny Luchetti
