“KEYS TO THE KINGDOM” – PART 3

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” ~Matthew 5:5 By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com

The third key to the kingdom is meekness. We like to think of ourselves as being strong, powerful and courageous. There is nothing wrong with these qualities as long as we know the Source of our strength, power and courage.

Contrary to human reason, meekness is not weakness. Jesus said, “I am meek and lowly in heart” (Matthew 11:29, King James Version). Yet He was the strongest, most powerful and courageous person to walk on the face of this earth.

Let’s take a closer look at the meaning of the word meekness:

1. TO BE MEEK IS TO BE MOLDED BY GOD. The Hebrew word for meek means “to be molded.” Everyone is molded or controlled by someone or something. This may include such things as money, fame, power or pleasure. The meek choose to be controlled by God. How do we know we are under God’s control? We talk to God often. We have a hunger for God’s Word which is food for the soul. We go to God for wisdom and direction. We live for the glory of God.

2. TO BE MEEK IS TO BE STRONG IN THE LORD.

Moses, for example, was considered one of the most courageous leaders in his time. Yet in the book of Numbers we read, “Now Moses was a very meek man, more meek than anyone else on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3 King James Version). Meekness is finding our strength in the Lord. Apostle Paul said, “When I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Our greatest source of strength is Jesus Christ.

3. TO BE MEEK IS TO BE OBEDIENT TO GOD. We were created to have fellowship with God and to obey God. God’s laws never change. Dante wrote, “In His will is our peace.” We can choose to obey God’s laws or to live according to our own laws. The only difference is the consequence of our choices.

The Bible says “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). On the other hand, the way of God leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:13, 14).

The opposite of meekness is smugness, being egotistical and haughty. The promise of eternal inheritance is reserved for the meek. “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

Weekly Date Night

Did you know that couples who have a weekly date night are 15% happier than couples who do not? And, couples who go on a date weekly are far more likely to stay together. Their love seems to go deeper as they grow older. Christians have a weekly date with God called Sunday worship! Christians who keep their weekly “date” with God are typically more vibrant and joyful than those who do not. Why is that?

Our weekly date with God on Sunday helps us to remember what the rest of the week might have kept us from seeing—that God is bigger, greater, and more beautiful than anything in this world. The prophet Isaiah had a profound encounter with God in worship. He wrote, “I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple” (Isaiah 6:1). That encounter with God impacted and transformed Isaiah. Seeing God’s glory during the weekly date called worship will do something significant to us too. When we, like Isaiah, experience the powerful presence of God in our weekly worship, nothing else matters. Who cares if you didn’t like the songs? Who cares if the pianist missed a note? Who cares what so-and-so was wearing? Who cares about the typo in the bulletin? Who cares if the greeter had bad breath? Weekly worship is not a chance to critique or complain, but to glimpse the glory of God among the people of God in the house of God, thanks be to God!

Loving God passionately through the weekly worship date means singing our hearts out to God even when we don’t like the song, which makes the worship more worshipful. It means praying with deep faith for the kingdom of God to “come on earth as it is in heaven.” It means opening our hearts to the revealed will of God through the preached Word of God on Sunday so that we can live for God come Monday. Loving God passionately through the weekly worship service will help your love for God to go deeper as you grow older. And, God will seem bigger and greater as you grow older.

So, then, it’s a date! See you Sunday!

You are loved, Pastor Lenny Luchetti

Allegan, MI – September 22, 2025

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Allegan County Community Foundation is proud to announce that this year, $384,490 in scholarships have been awarded to 107 outstanding students through 144 individual awards.

Through these scholarships, which support a wide range of educational paths, ACCF donors are positively impacting the lives of students across Allegan County and beyond. Recipients include high school seniors entering college, current students continuing their studies, and adult learners advancing their careers. Every award reflects our community’s commitment to empowering students to reach their full potential.

Behind every scholarship is a network of people who believe in our students. Strong partnerships with local school districts make scholarships accessible through one streamlined platform, while dedicated volunteers give countless hours to reviewing applications, celebrating students at award nights, and even delivering yard signs. Most importantly, none of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors, whose investment helps shape the future of Allegan County.

“Our donors are shaping futures with every scholarship they create. We invite others to join them, let’s work together to open new doors for students.” Stephanie Calhoun, President & CEO.

For more information about this year’s scholarship recipients and their incredible stories, view our Scholarship Yearbook here: alleganfoundation.org/scholarships

ForThe... Sun. Nov.

Encounter Church of Plainwell, formerly known as Plainwell Assembly of God, will be having our 80th Anniversary Celebration during a special service on Sunday, October 19 at 10:15 am.

The church was planted as the first Home Missions church of the Michigan District of the Assemblies of God in November 1945, at the close of World War II. Over the years the congregation has proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Pentecostal experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Recently the church changed its name to Encounter Church to reflect more clearly its core mission as a community where people encounter God, connect with others, and transform the world.

We invite all current and former members and regular attenders to join us, as well as members of our community. Pastor David Alderman will be speaking on the vision, past and future, that God continues to unfold in our midst. We want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His continued love and faithfulness toward us and all people as we continue to tell the world of His love for all humanity.

• Potty trained

When Anders first arrived at the shelter, he was thin, struggling to keep food down, and clearly not feeling his best. For weeks, different treatments weren’t working until one incredibly compassionate volunteer saw something special in him and decided to step in, just in time to save his life. With permission, Anders was taken to a trusted vet, where tests revealed the shocking cause of his troubles: He had swallowed an entire stuffed toy (squeaker and all!) that was shifting around in his stomach. This amazing human didn’t hesitate - they covered the cost of surgery, and thanks to their kindness, Anders is now on the road to recovery and doing great in their care.

ANDERS' POST-SURGERY HIGHLIGHTS:

• Knows sit, down and paw

• Walks nicely with hardly any pulling on the leash

• Enjoys outings & interacts well with other dogs

• Loves car rides

• Estimated to be around 18 months old

• Working through some separation anxiety We are grateful for the kindness that saved Anders’ life and gave him a chance to show the world what an amazing dog he is. Once he's fully recovered, he will be ready for adoption.
