AGE 85 - PLAINWELL
Fred passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 in Grand Rapids. Mr. Daniels was born April 20, 1926 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Frederick and Margaret (Kapteyn) Daniels. He was a graduate of Stoneybrook High School, Long Island. During WWII he served his country in the U.S. Navy and also in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Fred earned his Bachelor Degree from Calvin College and his Master Degree from Michigan State University. For 20 years he was employed as Rehab Counselor and Director of Admissions with Michigan State Technical Institute, retiring in 1985. For several years he served on the Plainwell Board of Education. On June 9, 1962 in Ionia he married Dorothea Brown, who survives. Fred and Dorothea enjoyed traveling and after retirement spent many winters in Florida. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen (Gary) Packard of East Tawas, MI and Linda (Chris) Goepper of Lawrenceburg, IN; four grandchildren, Nick, Kasey, Bradee and Jason Goepper. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service. Burial of ashes will be at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. Contributions in memory of Fred may be made to Christian Neighbors, P.O. Box 53, Plainwell, MI 49080 or the charity of your choice.

Words of Faith & Hope “WHO ARE THESE MASKED MEN?” Psalm l39
Answer: Two corny preachers hiding behind masks. Two corny preachers … a pauper’s funeral … children dressing up for Halloween. What do they have in common? In the case of two corny preachers … just having fun; plain and simple. Early in my years as a practicing pastor (l971) I was called upon to officiate at the graveside service of a man nobody knew. All he had was a name. No relatives. No friends. No money. Nobody knew and nobody cared. His service was attended by the preacher (me) and two funeral directors. The question came, “Pretty hard to do a service for someone nobody knows.” My response: “Not really. I have Psalm 139.” As for children dressing up for Halloween, we know why they do it because we did it when we were growing up. The last year I went trick or treating was
7th grade. Our visitations ended with Mr. Loshbough (our Sunday school teacher) who said, “You boys are too old to go trick or treating.” The common theme is Psalm l39. We wear masks for three reasons: l. So we can pretend to be someone we are not. 2. So we can disguise who we really are. 3. So we can separate ourselves from everybody else. The good news is we do not have to wear a mask because God loves us unconditionally. Psalm l39 makes at least three things abundantly clear: 1. We are known and loved by God. “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me” (verse 6). 2. We cannot go anywhere where God is not present. “Where can I go from your Spirit? (Verse 7). 3. We are persons of sacred worth. “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Verse l4). There you have it … God’s perfect knowledge of who we are … God’s unfailing love … God-given self-esteem. There is nothing better than these. Please pray with me. Dear Lord, help me to find my true identity in You. Nancy’s Kitchen in Plainwell Celebrates 5th Anniversary This November will mark five years in business for Plainwell’s “Nancy’s Kitchen.” Owner Nancy Morehouse began catering long before opening her restaurant/catering business located at 615 E. Bridge Street. Nancy wanted to provide meals for busy families who don’t have time to cook for themselves, for the business person who might like something other than “fast food” when passing through town. “Nancy’s Kitchen” was opened in November of 2006. She chose the building because of its location and its interesting history. The building was originally a grocery store built in 1910 by Nicholas Pell and it remained family owned for many years, housing many different businesses. When you enter Nancy’s Kitchen you feel as if you’re being welcomed into someone’s home. The atmosphere is “homey” and the food smells wonderful...almost like going to grandma’s house for dinner. Nancy does not use fryers - all her food is fresh and made from scratch “just like grandma used to make.” Nancy’s Kitchen is open for dining seven days a week from 8:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. serving breakfast and lunch. After that Nancy is out catering, which is what she loves to do. She is capable of catering for up to 300 people at your location or in the restaurant for up to 35 for corporate lunches, holiday parties, baby showers or any event. Nancy serves breakfast and lunches along with boxed lunches, all available for take-out or delivery to your event. Nancy says,
