He is preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Jennings; his parents; four brothers, Leroy “L.R.” Jennings, Warren D. Jennings, Harman Jennings, and Donald Jennings; and his sister, Dorothy “Dot” J. Bibb. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle P. He had a gentle heart and an easy laugh, and he made people feel seen, valued, and cared for. He loved his family and friends deeply, and the love he gave so freely will stay with us always. With his first wife, Connie, Linwood lovingly raised their two children, Dawn and Steve. They were married for 55 years and together created a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Dawn and Steve had the most wonderful, loving, and committed parents who supported and guided them every step of the way. He was respected not only for his intelligence and dedication but also for his kindness, humility, and good humor. Even in retirement, Linwood remained connected to his former colleagues, attending gatherings up until just months ago—a testament to the deep friendships and respect he built throughout his life. He was a devoted member of One in Christ Church in Forest, Virginia, where his quiet faith and steadfast spirit were a blessing to all who knew him. Linwood was never one to sit idly. Mary Ellen WRIGHT AGE 81 - PLAINWELL, MI
In loving memory...
Doc,
It's so hard to believe that you have been gone 10 years. I don't know where the time has gone. I think of you every day. I thought I'd be with you by now. I love you so much and I will never stop. I'll love you forever, heart and soul.

Mary Ellen Wright died unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in her favorite chair at the home where she and her late husband Harold raised their family. Born on April 17, 1944, to Donna Devers in Carson City, MI, Mary was raised by Fred and Tillie Pritz (and later her stepfather, Glenn Gamble) in Kalamazoo. She married Harold in 1963, and the couple settled in Plainwell, where Mary happily raised their four children while Harold worked. More than anything, Mary loved her family, and she loved adding to her family. With her small stature, big heart, and bright shoes, she’d often “adopt” her kids’ and grandkids’ friends into her circle, come across “long-lost cousins” at stores and random events, and feed whatever animals, domestic or wild, that would stray into her backyard. She considered all of these her family, and if they had an address to send a Christmas or birthday card to, by God she was going to send it, sometimes with the wrong date or address or even card, but always with her entire love and a share of her limited resources. At Mary’s request, the majority of this obituary is to be devoted to that family, both living and dead, biological and chosen, whom she surrounded herself with during her 81 years. In the months leading up to her passing, Mary sought at every opportunity to tell those she loved how much she loved them and wanted everyone to know how good her life was because they were in it. This family includes, but certainly is not limited to, her husband: Harold Wright; children: Tammy Lober (Doug Verpooten), Tari Wright (Kevin Christensen), Tom (Barb) Wright, and Traci (Mike) Bosch; grandchildren: Ryan (Jessica) Shook, Mark (Kelli) Shook, Brandon Lober, Michael (Amanda) Christensen, Renee (Nick) Snape, Daton Wright (Alyssa Wesler), Macayla Wright (Dusty Gibson), Dustin (Charity) McNees, Rachael (Dallas) Fuller, and Daniel “Squeek” Bosch; great-grandchildren: Kobe, Ava, Ella, Jayrd, and Sawyer Shook, Maylee Shook, Audrey (Michael) Ritter, Leah (Jonah) Dean, Jackson Meyer, Jessa, Quinn, and Nolan Christensen, Tanner Snape, and Caige, Cohen, Praxus, and Rei McNees; special relatives: Stan and June Thomas, Doug Thomas, Peggy Hughes (Thomas Hughes), Christen Baxter, Jessica Baxter, Brittany (Cody) Watkins, Tom and Jean Hurlbut, Jim and Fran Hurlbut, Laurie and Bob Hamilton, Cousin Deb, Linda Schanz, Mathew Hamilton, Beth and Craig Hardford, Austin Hardford, Gordie and Jane Dangremond, Dan (Kim) Dangremond, Scott (Connie) Dangremond), Kara Dangremond, Alli Dangremond, and Kyle (Nikki) Harnden; special friends: Gloria and Ernie Piechocki, Jimmy Piechocki, Sharon Metheny, Suki Jorgensen, Sandy Brink, Karen Romanak, Jeff Lyons, Ann Kling, Vic Beaune, and numerous Peace Lutheran friends; the hundreds of dogs, cats, deer, birds, goats, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, chipmunks, farm animals, and other wildlife Mary and Harold met and took care of throughout their 41-year marriage; and anyone else who feels their name should be on this list. If you think you were a part of Mary’s family in any capacity, she would agree. Services were held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Otsego, MI, with Visitation from 10-11 a.m., Service at 11, followed by a light lunch. Anyone wishing to donate in Mary's memory can donate to the Wishbone Pet Rescue.

Unfriended
We humans are made for friendship. We crave it. The most popular TV sitcoms are focused on the theme of friendship—The Odd Couple, Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends, Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother are a few examples. But for many of us, deep friendship is like a unicorn; we’ve heard that it exists, but we can’t seem to find one. Perhaps the problem is that we are more focused on finding a good friend than being a good friend. When that happens, we usually unfriend ourselves.
Job, one of the heroes in the Bible, had friends, or better “frenemies,” who unfriended themselves from Job when he needed a friend the most. Job lost his health, wealth, and ten children to death, all in a single day. Obviously, he was devasted. He has lost everything except his faith and integrity, which were hanging by a thin thread. His friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar (names for your newborn???), show up to comfort Job. At first, they do what good friends do. We read, “Then they sat on the ground with him (Job) for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was” (Job 2:13). But then, Job speaks out of his intense pain with honest lament saying things like, “why did I not perish at birth” (Job 3:11) and “I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil” (Job 3:26). And Job’s friends jump all over Job!
Instead of staying silent and present, letting Job vent, the friends do several things to unfriend themselves from Job when he needed their friendship most. Here are three ways they unfriended themselves from Job: They chose pontification over presence, winning over empathizing, and correction over comfort. They argue with Job throughout most of the book of Job, trying to convince him that his suffering is due to his sin. That was the popular theology of their day. They failed to realize that sometimes bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. They were convinced Job’s suffering was punishment for sin, but it was really a test of his faith.
The next time your friend is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, be careful not to unfriend yourself like Job’s frenemies did. Don’t choose pontification, winning (the argument), or correction; choose presence, empathy, and comfort. In other words, be the friend you want!

“KEYS TO THE KINGDOM” – PART 5
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy” ~Matthew 5:7 By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com
The fifth key to the kingdom is being merciful. We live in a world where mercy is hard to find. The good news is that God has it and so can we. Without God’s mercy, we would be without hope. In the 1964 Methodist Book of Worship we find the “Ritual of Holy Communion” which reads, “We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under Thy table. But Thou art the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy.”
The issue is our unwillingness to show mercy to others blocks God’s mercy toward us (Matthew 6:15). We recognize this every time we pray the Lord’s Prayer, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us” (Matthew 6:12).
There are at least three things to be said about God’s mercy:
1. Like the grace of God, mercy is a gift from God. It can neither be merited nor earned.
2. In a world bent on revenge and vengeance, God provides a better way… the way of mercy.
3. Hate, resentment and vindictiveness leads to even more of the same. It has been said, “Hate is like the mad scientist who methodically builds a bomb to use on others, only to have it blow up in his own hands.”
In the Hebrew language, mercy means lovingkindness. Some may think it is easier for God to be kind, but what about us? The answer is anyone who names Christ as Savior is qualified to show mercy. Showing mercy is the only way to live in peace with God and with others.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to show the same mercy toward others that you show to us. In Your strong name. Amen.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Benjamin David Starr, son of Justin and Ashleigh Starr, born on October 7, 2025. 9 pounds, 13 oz. 20.87 inches.

The shock has not worn off yet as we gather to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of our beloved commander, Josh Jepkema, or "Jeep" as many of you knew him. The outpouring of support from the community and surrounding communities has been proof of the great loss we are feeling. It is a tremendous loss that has left a hole in the heart of our Post. We would like to thank our employees for putting on their work faces and pushing through and our Honor Guard led by Rick Kelly for ensuring our presence at Fort Custer and participating in the military honors there. We have to thank BC Pizza for providing pizzas when we had a large group of people show up on Sunday, not knowing where else to go. And thank you to the City of Otsego for their kind words and their willingness to help with whatever they could. We truly appreciate all of you. Also, thank you to all of our members - Post, Dads, Auxiliary - and our volunteers who are working through their grief to ensure Josh's friends and family have the opportunity to grieve him together in this place that he loved just as much as it loved him. Thank you so very much to VFW Post 827 and their commander, Steve May, for acting in the true VFW spirit and doing everything they could - plus some - to help us in our time of need. This is going to be a difficult recovery for us here at VFW Post 3030 as Josh was such a presence here. We believe that we will make him proud and we will eventually be an even stronger club because of this loss and Josh's influence.
