Christian Unity Fuels Our Mission If you are in Christ today, did you know that Jesus prayed for you long before you even existed? Check out what Jesus prayed for us in John 17:20‐23. Jesus prayed, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me ‐ so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” And what did Jesus pray for us before we existed? That we Christians would “be one” and “brought to complete unity.” Of all the things Jesus could have prayed for, He prayed for the unity of the Church. Why is that so important to Him? Well, Jesus tells us that our unity in the Church fuels our mission to the world. Here is how Jesus prayed for us: “may [they] be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me.” This is not a kumbaya sappy sort of “let’s all get along together” sort of prayer. Jesus is praying that the self‐giving love between Him and the Father will be reflected in our love for each other. The self‐giving part is really hard. Out of love for Jesus, we give up our grudges, disappointments, preferences, and rights to live in unity (not uniformity) with our brothers and sisters in Christ. As the old hymn goes, “Father, make us one that the world may know you have sent the Son, Father make us one.” Amen!

Drivers, Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Tips Drivers should: • Look out for and always yield the right-of-way to people walking, jogging, biking, etc.; • Pull out slowly from driveways and parking areas while watching for vulnerable road users, including children and others on the sidewalk or nearby pathways; • Stop fully before turning at driveways and intersections to make sure you do not cut off pedestrians or approaching bicyclists with right of way; • Never turn right immediately after passing a cyclist - wait until the cyclist has completed the trip through the intersection; • Do not pass vehicles stopped at crosswalks, as they may be allowing a pedestrian to cross the street; • Yield to anyone crossing the street when turning left on a green light; • Watch for surprising changes in direction, especially by children or cyclists avoiding road hazards. • When parallel parked, check for approaching cyclists before opening your door; • Leave sufficient space when passing vulnerable road users and take every possible precaution to avoid collision.
Pedestrians are reminded to: • Walk on the side of the road as far to the left as possible or on a paved shoulder AGAINST oncoming traffic where there are no sidewalks; • Cross the street at an intersection or designated crosswalk when possible and always stop, look left, right, and left again before crossing. Do not rely solely on pedestrian traffic signals; • Come to the edge of a parked vehicle, stop and look both ways if it's blocking the view of the street before entering the street. This is also recom-

mended before crossing in front of a stopped vehicle at an intersection if there are additional lanes traveling in the same direction; • Try to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them and do not assume that because you can see the driver, the driver can see you; • Watch for cars that are turning or backing up; • Be vigilant in parking lots, especially when accompanying small children; • Increase visibility at night by carrying a flashlight when walking and by wearing light-colored or reflective clothing that highlights body movements.
Bicyclists should: • Always ride WITH other traffic; • Obey the rules of the road as any other vehicle operator, including all traffic signs, lane markings and signals, and use hand signals to indicate turns, slowing or stopping; • Wear bicycle helmets and reflective clothing; • Stay as far to the right as practical when riding in traffic lanes; • Not ride more than two abreast in a single lane, so long as it does not interfere with the normal flow of vehicular traffic; • Avoid entering the roadway without first stopping to look for vehicles; • Ride predictably and defensively, and do not ride while drunk or distracted; • Always yield to pedestrians; • Have a white front headlight and a red rear reflector if riding after dark or in low light conditions.

“ONE STEP AT A TIME”
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com ___________________________________________
One of the best ways to keep healthy is by walking. Health experts are telling us that walking each day can lower our risk for heart disease and strengthen our heart. While the norm has been 10,000 steps each day, research from the Journal of the American Medical Association (2021) stated that walking just 4,400 steps per day can go a long way in maintaining a healthy heart. The study said that more is better up to a point. The study found there are no additional benefits to logging more than 7,500 steps per day. Our walk with God is one step at a time. Walking with God gives direction, purpose and meaning to our lives. There are no shortcuts. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus did not teach us to pray, “… Give us this year our daily bread... or give us this month or week our daily bread. He taught us to pray “… Give us this DAY our daily bead.” A classic example of this is the story of the great Scottish essayist, historian and philosopher Thomas Carlyle (l795-1881). There was a time in his life when he faced almost total poverty. For many years he labored to write the first volume of the history of the French Revolution. He was so pleased when his volume was completed that he took his manuscript to his friend John Stuart Mill to read and critique. But seeing the disarrayed pages of the manuscript on the floor, his maid thought it was trash and used them to build a fire in the fireplace. All his work had literally gone up in smoke. Thomas Carlyle was understandably devastated. He sunk into great despair and depression. He vowed never to write again. Then one day he looked out his window and saw a man building a brick wall. He watched as the man carefully picked up each brick one at a time and set it in place. He was building a large wall one brick at a time. As he thought more about it, he decided he would rewrite his volume one page at a time. He did that and it became a classic. One step at a time is all we need.
Prayer: Dear Lord, order my steps. One step at a time. In Your strong name. Amen. American Legion Post #84 of Otsego, meets at 410 E. Orleans, 7pm, the 2nd Wednesday of each month. AGE 84 - KALAMAZOO, MI
Thomas Eugene Rosenberg was born on April 15, 1942, in Plainwell, Michigan. He graduated from Plainwell High School in 1960 and married Bonnie Bronkhorst in 1962. Together, they raised two children, Ken and Laura, and built a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, and adventure. After working several jobs, Tom began a 42-year career as a lineman with Consumers Energy. He took pride in his work and never turned down overtime, especially when storms brought the opportunity. He appreciated what that hard work allowed him to provide for his family. Retirement didn’t keep him idle for long. He joined Zeigler Automotive as a car porter, delivering vehicles and enjoying working alongside his son-in-law, Bob Cline, for 15 years. Growing up in Plainwell, Tom spent many happy days with family and friends on Pine Lake. His small-town roots stayed with him throughout his life, and familiar faces and longtime friendships were always important to him. As his children grew, he enjoyed watching their sports and spending winters skiing at Timber Ridge, where he also worked alongside friends. Tom loved spending time outdoors at his picnic table, pheasant hunting in Nebraska, and fishing. The family also made many lasting memories during their years “up north” at Burt Lake. Racing was one of Tom’s great passions. An avid NASCAR fan, he traveled with his son, Ken, to NASCAR tracks across the country. Closer to home, his love of stock car racing brought him to Kalamazoo Speedway week after week, sharing evenings at the track with family and friends over the years. Tom enjoyed a beer with good company and was always ready to go out for breakfast. He also loved traveling, whether taking a cruise or enjoying timeshare stays in Hawaii, St. Martin, and destinations throughout the United States. He followed his own path, worked hard, and made time for the people and experiences he loved. In his later years, time with family became his greatest joy. He especially treasured his grandchildren, Derrick Rosenberg-Scholte and his wife, Mackenzie, Jared and Drew Rosenberg, Luca Romano, Matt Cline, Mary Cline and her husband, Ralph Villaneuva, and his beloved great-grandchildren, Junie and Menno. His family includes his wife, Bonnie; son, Ken Rosenberg; daughter, Laura, and her husband, Bob Cline; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the many friends who shared in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother, brothers-in-law, and a niece and nephews. Cremation has taken place, and a private burial was held at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell, MI. A celebration of Tom’s life is planned for October 24, from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m., at the Lynx Golf Club in Otsego, Michigan. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and remember the many good times spent with him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in memory of Thomas E. Rosenberg to Hospice Services of Centrica Care Navigators, 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Arrangements by

Fay F. BREWSTER
Kenneth Frederick Owen Klumpp, known to many as Ken, died on October 13, 2026, at his home in Otsego. He was born on May 24, 1942, in Grand Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Irene (Flory) Klumpp. Ken earned his master’s degree from Western Michigan University and will be remembered as a beloved teacher, coach, and athletic director at Plainwell Community Schools. He devoted his career to students, athletes, and the school community through his retirement in June 2000 and beyond. His lasting impact on Plainwell athletics and education was recognized when he was inducted into the Plainwell High School Hall of Fame in March 2007. Beyond his work, Ken found great joy in playing cribbage and Euchre and especially in watching his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa,” play sports. His family fondly remembers many fun filled trips to Florida. He was a member of the Elks, served as President of the Lions Club, was involved with the MIAAA, and was an active member of Plainwell United Methodist Church. He was fiercely loyal to the Coca-Cola brand that became part of his well-known personality. With his father having worked for the Coca-Cola company, Ken was known never to order a Pepsi, and he took pleasure in adding to his large collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia. Most of all, Ken treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Josephine “Joey” Klumpp, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He also leaves his daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Palmer and Amy-Jo (Dylan) Steele; his grandchildren Ben (Cassie) Palmer, Colin (Mari Bragg) Palmer; Cassidy (Jamie) Veenkant; and Gavyn Steele; great-grandchildren Rossi-Jo, Rhyan and Reese Veenkant and Joel and Eden Palmer. Ken is also survived by his sister, Beth-Anne (David) Eggle; his sisters-in-law Irene (Richard) Ward, Christine (Robert) Hinklin, Pauline Brower, Judy Harrison-Lameyer, and Judy Harrison along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dennis Klumpp; his sisters-inlaw, Janet Klumpp and Clara Jane Tucker; brothers-in-law Bob (Ellen) Harrison, Jim (Emily) Harrison, Bill Harrison, and Pat Harrison; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Hoover Harrison Root. Ken’s life was marked by commitment, community involvement, and deep love for those around him. He will be remembered with gratitude by his family, by the many students and athletes whose lives he influenced, and by all who knew him as Ken and as Papa. Friends may visit with Ken’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Plainwell United Methodist Church until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 P.M., with Pastor Amee Paparella officiating. Private family burial will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Ken may be directed to Motts Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cancer Research Fund.
