Fall Leaf Pick Up 2015 REMINDER OF PICK UP PROCEDURES
The Public Works Department will be picking up leaves between October 26, 2015, and November 13, 2015. Please do not place any leaves in the streets, before October 25, 2015. Leaves will be picked up twice during the three week period. Please plan accordingly.
Allegan Street residents only- continue to place leaves in the curb lawn. Please do not place leaves near trees or poles, for easier access. Collection dates will be Monday, October 26, 2015, and November 9, 2015 for Allegan Street only.
Farmer Street residents only - collection dates will be Monday, October 26, 2015, and November 9, 2015. Please rake leaves into the street no earlier than the Sunday before pick up. Please refrain from putting leaves in the road before October 25th. Loose leaves will no longer be picked up after your street has been picked-up twice. For safety purposes - do not place leaves in the street after the second pick up. Leaves may be taken to the city's transfer station located off of Helen Ave. free of charge. The transfer station is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. If you have any questions contact City Hall at 692-3391.

All Other Streets: From Oct. 16 thru Nov. 15, residents can rake loose leaves into the street close to curb or shoulder. The city will not remove leaves from curb lawn unless bagged. AGE 61 – PLAINWELL, MI Susan Lee Morgan passed away peacefully on the morning of October 3, 2015 in her family home in Plainwell, Michigan. She was born on October 2, 1954 in Allegan, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Aernie and is survived by her father, Arthur Morgan; sister, Gaye Levian; step-sister Penny Orange; nephew David Levian; and his wife, Dawn and great niece, Katlynn Levian and many friends. Susan was employed by Bronson Methodist Hospital for over 40 years as a Billing Specialist. She was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident and graduated from Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Central High School. She also had a passion for cats, even running a Feral Cat rescue, neuter/spay and release from her house. She was a very proud breast cancer survivor and had a hard fought battle with colon cancer for the last year and a half of her life. Susan asked that donations be made in her name to KL Cat Hospital Kalamazoo, MI. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the family home at 3969 West AB Avenue in Plainwell from 1pm-3pm.
James passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born on November 30, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA to Alfred and Bertha (Leon) Martin. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For over 18 years he had worked for Parker Hannifin HSD, most recently as a painter. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, playing golf, reading, watching sci-fi movies, gardening, doing yard work with Vicki and most of all spending time with his family. On September 27, 2013 he married Vicki Doubblestien who survives. Also surviving are his children, Andrea Garcia Contreras, Jamie Garcia Contreras both of FL, Jacob Martin of CA, Ammie Coburn of Schoolcraft, Rhonda (Chad) Gorton of Alto and Rob Doubblestein of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren, Samadi Jr., Jessiah, Yvianna, Ylena, Joshua, Jacob, Ryan, Rachael, Conner, and Kylee and his siblings, Rose of AR and Brian of WY. AGE 82 – ALLEGAN, MI Mollie passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan. She was born on November 18, 1932 in Allegan, the daughter of Maxwell and Bernice (Richardson) Morris. She had lived in the area and had worked at Kal-Equip and had been active with the Moose Lodge. On August 18, 1973 she married Russell M. Riker and shortly after they moved to Homer where she had worked in the lunchroom at the local schools. In her spare time Mollie enjoyed crocheting. Surviving are her 4 children, Roger (Roxanne) Griffith of Richland, Charlene (Ray) Brown of Otsego, Kathy (David) LaFountain of Baldwin and Tish (Mike) Rohlfing of WA; 4 step-children, Cindy Kirkbridge, Cathi, (Louie) Kroul, Teri (Eric) Fogel all of Homer and David (Yvette) Riker of Slidell, LA; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and her siblings, Norman “Bud” (Barbara) Morris and Verna (Harold “Skip”) VanderVeen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and by a brother, Denny. Friends may visit with Mollie’s family on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 10am until the time of the service at 11am at The Master’s Feet Ministry in Otsego, MI with Pastor Ray Brown officiating.
