At the 27 May Ex-Committee meeting, our future was again discussed.
I can state that there is a draft report being assembled now. I attended a meeting of the Future Sub-Committee during this last week and that report shall be completed very soon, for submission to an Ex-Committee meeting. I hope that some clear options can be given by the committee with recommendations, to go to our next Extra Ordinary General Meeting very soon.
For me the sooner the better, because the longer this takes the more losses we accrue and the less money for us to invest, into something that shall have a real opportunity at creating profit. In the end this all means “life for our RSA’’. To me it is so important that we start to actually make a profit from our operations. I don’t want our RSA, to face having to close in say five to eight years’ time, due to no profit and lack of funds. This is currently where we are heading. So please, once we advertise the next EGM; be there and help in having a say. It shall be a Sunday morning.
Because in the end it is you the members that have the final say. This is a very important time in our continued existence here on the Hibiscus Coast.
On a positive note, our combined efforts from Poppy Day saw some nearly $15k go into the Poppy Fund. Thank you everyone including Bunnings and Pak N Save, who helped is some way to enable the continuation of welfare for our ‘returned & ex-service’ members.
On 8 May last month, it was 79 years since the end of the 2nd World War in Europe, and this week it is 80 years since the Allied D-Day landings on 6 June 1944 onto the Normandy Beaches in France to free Europe. We are so lucky.
Regarding our kitchen and lunches, Thursday has been dis-continued due to lack of patronage, Tuesday and Saturday remain in place. The kitchen is a separate business within our RSA. They lease the space from us and must make a profit, or close. However, last Wednesday night Raffle Night, the kitchen tried a different menu with a choice of ‘’3 meats, with a buffet of cold and hot vegetables, for $25 per person’’. It was fantastic. No waiting,
‘collect a plate and serve’ I am told that it shall be repeated. So please check your current newsletter for info. The members draw this Wednesday is $1100. Be there!!!
The gardens are really starting to look great; thanks to a small group working on site on Wednesday mornings. Anyone is welcome to join them and help. Contact Reception; email or phone 09 424 9026
Our roof is almost finished, we are waiting on paint to complete its partially completed 2nd coat and full completion. So we are looking quite sharp despite our operating losses. Thanks everyone.
Our driveway is taking a beating during the developers construction phase and this was to be expected. Please bear with us as we negotiate our way through this period. Parking is an issue especially on Wednesday evenings, but please do not park on the grassed areas. You leave wheel ruts, which ends up as a maintenance issue for us so please don’t do it!
Finally as I said in the last newsletter, our Annual General meeting is coming up in September. If you want to be ‘part of the coal face’’ and help govern our RSA, then please consider standing for the committee.

Sadly due to lack of positive response we are cancelling our Womens Indoors Bowls tournament at Waihi Beach in July. Thanks to those of you who sent in apologies and change of email addresses.
We continue to play Indoor Bowls on both a Tuesday (except for the first Tuesday in the month) and a Thursday afternoon at 12.30pm. If you are a first-time bowler or an experienced player now wanting to relax a bit more and play in a more social setting you are all more than welcome to come and join us for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie.
Bowler numbers remain steady despite a few avid travellers amongst us still venturing abroad for some R&R in warmer temperatures.
If you would like to give it a go feel free to join up on either day and introduce yourself or if you would like more information, please contact Bob Hill (Club Captain) on 027 3399683.
Merlyn Jacob SecretaryTwenty-five golfers competed for the jacket this month at Helensville Golf Course. It was a lovely autumn day and the course was in great condition - no excuses for poor golf. However, the average Stableford score was just under 30. Mark Smith (Tex) guessed 747 total points and won the raffle - the actual total was 748. He just missed winning the whole pot by one point. The NAGA of the day, with just 23 points, was Bryce Tippert.
The longest drives for the day were won by Gerald Malan and Debbie Wylde. Closest to the pin in two shots was John Marston and Debbie Wylde. The nearest the pin in one shot prizes were won by Cheryl Freel and John Marston. Best gross was won by Craig Edwards with 82. The best Stableford score, with 36, was won by Adrienne Renton, recently back from shoulder surgery. The overall winner of the day, with a net score of 71, was Lloyd Banton. Great to see you back playing with us Lloyd, what a good result. Congratulations to all of our prize winners.
Next month we are playing at Takapuna Golf Course. The green fees are $40, payable to our treasurer (so please bring cash). If you are a full member of Takapuna, or an affiliate member there, a discount will be applied when you get your scorecard. Tee off is at 10.09am on 16 June.
The away trip up North on 16 and 17 November is being booked now, so please check the signup sheet to add your details.
Please indicate if you require a cart and/or wish to ride in the bus. We will stay at Central Motor Court once again, and will play Sherwood Golf course and Northland Golf course. The cost will be around $200. Deposits of $50 will be due by the July AGM. Details of that will be provided soon.

We are still looking to resume our monthly Ladies night, but we need more ladies to join us. If any ladies are interested, please contact us. It is a good opportunity if you have not played for a while, want to brush up your skills but do not want to join the Wednesday and Saturday games with the men.

We had a good social day last Saturday 24 May when Birkenhead RSA came to our club for a snooker competition. The format was three doubles matches followed by six singles matches.
While many games were close, we won just one game. Congratulations to Rex Lissington on his victory and thank you to all other competitors for giving it your best shot.
Despite the overall result, all players enjoyed themselves and that is what it was all about.
On the same day we played Birkenhead, it

was so good to see other groups enjoying themselves at the RSA, namely the 8 ball players and the arm-wrestling competitors, followed by Toucan and Marian Burns entertaining in the evening.
Note that our snooker competition runs every Thursday night, starting at 6.45pm.
Everybody interested in joining us will be welcomed.

Our Women’s Section has had a busy time in the last month. Some of the Committee have attended birthday meetings with Waiheke and Papatoetoe Women’s Sections. It is always good to catch up with other groups and to hear what they are doing. Our Birthday meeting was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended.
Our next meeting will be on 4 June and we are looking forward to a talk to be given by Inspector Mark Fergus from the NZ Police who was posted to Vanuata as a Senior Police adviser. We would like to invite friends, including husbands and partners to this meeting to listen to this talk which will give a great insight into his experiences and will be very interesting and informative. The RSA will open at 12 noon.
Four of the Committee, including Beth Kavanagh (President), Kay Chilman (Treasurer), Anita Fergus (Welfare) and Jennie Champion (Secretary) have attended the National Women’s Conference in Waihi. A lot of information is shared at this Conference and it is a great opportunity to meet other members from around the country.
We would also like to remind members that we need donations for our trading table which is held every month. We would welcome household items that are in good clean condition and are no longer required.
Only one trip in 6 May for regulars. We had originally scheduled a casual trip for 20 May but that was cancelled as the skipper of Kiwi Angler was off in Fiji.
The trip started in reasonable weather, and we motored for over an hour to the back of Kawau close to Māori Rock. The fishing was slow all day and although the skipper used up all the burly it was a struggle to get the Snapper on the bite and the port side of the boat saw little action.
We were grateful to share the catch of 48 Snapper. On the positive side they were all healthy and reasonably fat.
Our patron Irene and Women’s Section President Beth Kavanagh Cutting the cake for our 47th birthday.
Jennie Champion Secretary
We are looking forward to our last trip on King’s Birthday Monday.
As the season is drawing to a close can those who won trophies last year please drop them off at the Club or give to either myself or Aggie.
Please put in your diary Friday 26 July for the AGM with a complementary drink for members and partners commencing at 5pm.
Keep those nominations for committee positions flooding in.
