This Sunday is your chance to help plan the future of the RSA Update from President David Newman We are in the run-up to the Extraordinary General Meeting called for this Sunday 25 Feb 2024 at 10am at HBCRSA clubrooms. Please put aside an hour or so and attend and bring along your membership card. Remember that the doors will be locked sharp at 10am to ensure only valid and financial members vote. I am hoping this meeting will enable members to give your committee some direction on what action you would like us to get underway to keep our future safe. You have all had the ‘Future Options report’ released December 2023. It gives an overview of what is happening year-on-year and suggests some options for you to consider. Call reception if you would like us to email another copy or pick one up when you arrive on Sunday. It seems very clear that if we do not start a programme to ensure our future commercially, we may be forced to consider closing within the next few years – a lot sooner than many anticipate. We need to change dramatically in what we do, and how we do things, if we are to survive. You, the members, should give the committee that direction please. On a positive note, I must thank the ‘garden group volunteers’ for all they have done recently; garden maintenance, long overdue tree felling beside the deck area, water blasting and now repainting of the outside of our building. Bunnings again have given great support with more paint. The roof refurbishment started nearly a year ago, to make us water tight and able ‘to trade’ with a valid Building Warrant of Fitness and full insurance, is almost complete. We are currently waiting for Dulux Paints to provide the roof paint, by way of a donation. The building is looking much better for all this work. And our thanks to all the other volunteers, doing all sorts of extra things around our RSA. It is so supportive and much appreciated. My wife and I attended the Elvis Tribute show recently. Fantastic night enjoyed by all who attended. Page 5

Your attendance and support to our club, is what keeps us in business but the sad truth is that our premises needs more use. I must remind members that we are a ‘licensed premises’ so it is not OK to bring your own drinks into the club. I have witnessed this on a couple of occasions -- and it is totally a no no. It is not permitted under our licence or club rules. Our membership number is about 1299 so it is slowly creeping up. There are 933 associate members (72 percent) and 366 service members (28 percent). We continue to provide comprehensive welfare support for Full members (ex Service personnel), and are still working on a scheme to provide similar support for Associate members, running in parallel. Already we offer all members with a Gold Card or with mobility issues a lift from home to local doctors and return. Thank you also for bearing with us with the construction damage being inflicted to our driveway. In the long-term this will be repaired/ reconstructed, basically at the developer’s cost. At the moment, the developers and our volunteers keep this as tidy as we can. I look forward to a high attendance on Sunday at our coming EGM on 25 February. David Newman President
