Dear Burr and Burton Community: THE 2020–2021 SCHO OL YEAR WAS ONE FOR THE HISTORY B O OKS. In the midst of the ongoing construction of Founders Hall, a fierce presidential election, and a global pandemic, we continued to educate students intellectually and morally for a life of responsibility, integrity and service. In many respects, this past school year was our greatest ever. After a prolonged Covid shut down in the spring of 2020, we connected and cooperated to an unprecedented degree so we could navigate through the school year. At a time when 50% of high school students in this country did not see the inside of a classroom for the entire school year, we were open in person every day. And Covid reminded us what we already knew: a strong community is at the heart of a strong education. It reminded us how connected we are not only within the classrooms, but throughout our communities. It reminded us that adversity can bring us closer, and in times of adversity we appreciate that closeness more than ever. This publication is a celebration of your care, your generosity, your impact, your school, and your community. It is our honor and pleasure to serve the BBA students of today and, with your help, to invest in the future of the generations to follow. From the Chair of the Board

Dear Burr and Burton Families, Alumni, and Friends: WE R ARELY THINK AB OUT HISTORY WHILE WE ARE MAKING IT. It’s often hindsight that allows us to recognize the broader stories and enduring themes of our actions, revealing the deeply held—sometimes even subconscious—values and priorities that shape the choices we make every day. Looking back over the long span of Burr and Burton’s history, it is both humbling and inspiring to see the constant impact and importance of community. Many schools can gratefully remember, as we can, a founding gift, but far fewer can look back on a founding act of collective generosity. Joseph Burr’s $10,000 bequest nearly two hundred years ago was the vital spark, but it was also matched, dollar for dollar, by the families, businesses, and friends whose legacy of giving is as recognizable to us today as the Seminary building in the shadow of Equinox. At Burr and Burton, then as now, we honor our past and build our future together. We do so in the shape of buildings that advance learning, in funds for programs that support and inspire our students, in salaries for teachers and staff, and in scholarship awards that help our graduates take their next steps out into the world. We could not be more grateful for your enduring support, or for the ongoing confidence you have shown in our students and those at Burr and Burton who help them on their way.

Jeffrey Charbonneau '05 Memorial Golf Tournament The Manchester Country Club hosted the Jeffrey Charbonneau ‘05 Memorial Golf Tournament in October 2020. Twenty spirited foursomes came out to support Bulldog Ice Hockey and honor the memory of beloved Burr and Burton player Jeffrey Charbonneau ‘05. Jeffrey was an accomplished athlete, playing soccer, ice hockey and golf, was a member of four state championship teams, and is a member of Burr and Burton’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The ice hockey program sincerely thanks all of the golfers for their continued generous support of this tournament and looks forward to the 2021 event.

The Gala

After more than a year of extraordinary shared challenge, 350 of Burr and Burton's friends, families, and alumni gathered on campus on August 21, 2021 to celebrate community, perseverance, and the bright future we build together. Backed by a spectacular view of the school's iconic belltower and the Green Mountains, the evening featured a sneak preview of Founders Hall, live and recorded student performances, and a fabulous dinner celebrating Vermont cuisine. Between ticket sales, sponsorships, gifts, raffle tickets, an amazing live auction run by Eric Nathan, and an incredible response to Headmaster Mark Tashjian's call to support BBA's faculty and staff, the 2021 Gala raised over $300,000.
