Marching Band takes sweet trip to Sugar Bowl

Isabel Kimminau Staff Reporter Performing in front of a crowd consisting of approximately 54,000 people is no small feat, let alone performing in a nationally televised football game. Our own Patriots’ Pride Marching Band, was one of the select few bands chosen for an opportunity to do just that, performed as part of the halftime show at the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although, to do so, they had to sacrifice some of their winter break, as the band left on the Dec. 29 and didn’t return until the Jan. 4. Still, it seems to have been a worthwhile opportunity. “The band was able to learn a new routine and music, both that were provided to us, for the halftime performance,” band director Darren Myers, states. “We also were able to participate in the Sugar Bowl parade and a marching band competition as a part of this opportunity.” The competition was similar to a normal marching band competition, with the only main difference being that the winners were awarded with a chance to present the American flag during the national anthem during pregame.
