Welcome to Your Place, our newsletter about Together Housing’s Place Shaping work in your neighbourhood.

I’m Kath Reeves and I’m the Place Shaping Project Officer for Whitebirk.

You can drop-in and see me or contact me directly using the details at the end of this newsletter.

I’ve worked around Whitebirk for many years and, like you, I’m passionate about it being a great place to live, so I’m always happy to hear your ideas and have a conversation about our work and how we can make it work for you.

Building a Whitebirk for everyone

We’re putting a lot of investment into Whitebirk and that means there’s a lot of work to be done. In fact, work has already started and will be spread over the next two years

Our construction partner, Seddon, has begun setting up their work cabins and compounds in several locations across the estate.

These newsletters will keep you informed of where work is happening, where it’s moving to and how you can keep safe and have your say.

We’re also working on a dedicated online space, where you’ll be able to find out what’s happening where and have your say at the touch of a button.

Come and meet us and tell us your views

We are holding a consultation event on October 15th 2025 4pm until 7pm

The 2000 Centre, 34 Brecon Road, Whitebirk, BB1 3JY

We’d like you to come and meet us so we can share our plans, explain our current activity and hear your views on the new park and what provision would be best for you and the young people living on Whitebirk

Access to the park

In 2023 we held some workshops with adults and children across Whitebirk to find out what you wanted to see in your neighbourhood and, in particular, your park.

We listened and as a result we will be replacing the play equipment and investing in a better park design. However, we want to know more about these designs and below there’s some details on how you can let us know.

Because of this work and the building sites nearby, we’ll be closing the park for the duration of the work, approximately two years. We know this will remove a space that is important to many people, however our first consideration needs to be the safety of children and young people on the estate and park in between two building sites would not be a suitable space for children to play. We know that it’s important that children and young people have safe places to go, so we’re also investing in alternative activities and youth provisions.

What would you want from this investment? What activities would make a difference to you or young people on Whitebirk? We want to work together to make sure Whitebirk is great for the future, but also to ensure you have what is needed right now, so we’d love to hear from you.

What

New windows, kitchens and doors

New homes are important, but we’ve not forgotten the existing people on the estate. As well as building new homes we are investing in making sure all our properties are kept to a high standard and provide a space for modern living. We’ve contacted over 180 residents to let them know about how their home will benefit from this work and what it could mean for them.

New homes coming soon

We’re planning to build 152 new rented homes across Whitebirk. These will be a mix of three and four bedroom houses as well as some smaller apartments.

We expect the first new homes to be ready in 2027 and you’ll find out more in our online site and regular updates.

Whitebirk 2000 Centre

For many years the Whitebirk 2000 Centre provided a hub at the heart of Whitebirk and we want to hear your views on its future.

Do you think the estate needs a community hub, what would you use it for and would you want to be part of a community group that looked at its future and what activities could happen locally? If so, please let Kath know!

Making safer routes

As well as building homes and improving the park, we are also going to improve the routes through estate to make them cleaner, greener and safer. Our online site will show you where these routes are and the difference we think they’ll make.
