Making change happen now
With your help, we have already made some changes.
We’ve created a community garden installed new lighting, a new community noticeboard and painted a mural on one business’ shutters.
Kings Road
We have supported Westside Community Association to transform the former butcher’s shop on Kings Road into a vibrant cafe, creating a new hub for community services and gatherings.
We worked with residents in the flats to clear rubbish and fly tipping, improve gardens and refresh the garages. We also created a new bin store improving the look of the area at the front of the flats involved and look out for more information in our newsletter.
Positive Pathways
We’re working in partnership with the Police, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and local schools to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour by developing a programme that helps pupils consider the impact of their actions. This will be done via performing arts workshops. We will tell you more about more in our newsletter.
South Ham Arts Trail
In collaboration with the borough council and local shop owners, we will be creating an exciting Arts Trail around South Ham. We’ve paired community organisations and schools with local artists to produce vibrant street art throughout the estate. As you explore the area, keep your eyes peeled for these unique
pieces of artwork, which will start to appear next year.
My Home: Stories from Buckskin and South Ham
We will work with the Milestone Museum to expand the Basingstoke My Home project to celebrate the rich history of Buckskin and South Ham - bringing together diverse stories, backgrounds and identities. We will create a beautiful book showcasing the stories of local people from the last 50 years.
Rethinking Garages: New workspaces in underused places
Inspired by our entrepreneurial residents we will bring life and commerce to our underutilised garages. A local business will have the opportunity to move into a converted garage and receive support from SNG’s Business Coach as part of a pilot project with the aim to create more work / studio spaces in the long term.
‘Race Around the Houses’: Local trail for walking, running and cycling
Listening to your feedback we want to create a new trail for running and walking, and maybe cycling. We also want to re-launch the ‘Race Around the Houses’, a popular sporting event in the area in the 1960s, to bring the community together to get active and enjoy a bit of healthy competition!
Looking to the future...
As we look ahead, our vision is to create a neighbourhood that remains resilient, inclusive, and full of opportunity. This means planning for a sustainable community where future generations can thrive, with more green spaces, renewable energy options, and resources that adapt to changing needs.
