Lag BaOmer in New Jersey Salvation and Connection

In the past decade, Lag BaOmer in New Jersey has become a catchphrase that brings hope, salvation, and inspiration to thousands each year. In the winter of 2002, Rav Naftuli Tzvi Halberstam zt”l of Bobov let slip a cryptic comment: “Rabi Shimon bar Yochai will be by me on Lag BaOmer.”

Many years later, when the Rav zt”l was no longer with us, that mysterious phrase came to life. Each Lag BaOmer, thousands of Yidden from the tri-state area and beyond come to the Rav’s ohel at Deans Cemetery in New Jersey. They come to daven and to thank; to plead and to rejoice. Stories of miracles are told, yet for each one that’s shared there are thousands that will forever remain unknown.

Lag BaOmer in New Jersey isn’t a marketing gimmick or a fundraising ploy. It’s an opportunity to tap into the mysterious depth and power that permeates the air – specifically there, specifically then. The Rav had said that Rabi Shimon will be with him on Lag BaOmer.

Ingredients: ½ lb. raw pasta (ziti or rigatoni) 4 oz ricotta cheese 1 cup marinara sauce ½ cup shredded muenster cheese ¼ cup parmesan cheese 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

1. Boil the pasta until cooked but still firm. Drain.

2. Mix the pasta with the marinara sauce, ricotta, muenster and parmesan cheese.

3. Pour pasta mixture into an 8" x 8" baking dish. Cover with shredded mozzarella.

4. Cover the pan tightly with foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Uncover, raise the oven temperature to 400°F and bake another 1520 minutes until crispy on top.

A Good FIT

Choosing a shoe for exercise can be daunting: Countless brands, hundreds of styles,

different levels of support, cushioning, etc.. So what’s important when finding the best fitness shoe for your workouts? Here's what to consider: First it’s best to not get too caught up with a specific size and go with what actually fits. This is typically a half-to-full size bigger than what your foot actually measures. A flat foot (no arch) usually requires medium to low arch support. Orthotics for excessively high or low arches will prevent the inward or outward roll of the ankle (reducing strain in knees and hips as well).

Having enough toe room is probably the most important place to start when determining how a sneaker should fit. About a thumbs width space between the end of your longest toe and the end of the shoe is ideal. This is most often referred to as ‘room in the toe box.’ Shoes that are too tight can cause black toenails, blisters and eventually lead to hammer-toe.

Try on shoes at the end of the day, after you’ve been active or have been standing for a while. When walking or exercising, your feet swell and you’ll need to accommodate for the needed extra space. Trying on shoes when your feet are at their largest will guarantee a better fit during your workouts.
