This special traveling exhibit features the work of amateur photographer Richard Ores.
From his early life through his imprisonment in the Kraków Ghetto and the Płaszów labor and concentration camp, Richard photographed daily life. After surviving the war, he unearthed his hidden photos, tactile reminders of the people and places he missed while he built and documented a new life in America.

In 1909, Hakoah Vienna’s Jewish soccer team formed in response to rising antisemitism. By the 1920s, the team had become European champions. When the Nazis annexed Austria in 1938, the team was confronted with the Holocaust. This is their largely untold story of survival.
Join scholar Michael Lower for an in-person presentation on the legendary team that defied hate to dominate the game.

The following new Limited Edition MOUNTAIN DEW SODAS are Kosher and pareve (no symbol required):
• FREEDOM FUSION
• INFINITE SWIRL
• LIBERTY CHILL
• STAR SPANGLED SPLASH
New MOUNTAIN DEW FREEDOM FUSION FCB Slurpee syrup is Kosher and pareve (no symbol required). The label on the syrup box in the back of the 7-Eleven store must be checked to verify the brand and flavor, unless that particular store has store level Kashrus certification of its Slurpee machine(s).
Locally, the following three 7-Eleven stores have K-COR/Vaad Harabbonim certification:
• Lincoln & Greenfield: all three Slurpee machines. • 11 & Coolidge: only the left machine. • 13 & Greenfield: only the left machine.
ICE CREAM and FROZEN YOGURT STORES often claim that they are Kosher and may post Kosher certification letters, which leads consumers to believe that the store and its products are under supervision. In fact, in most cases, the letters refer only to specific products or ingredients which are factory produced under supervision, and are certified only when in their original sealed packaging bearing Kosher marking. Once the unsupervised store opens the packaging, the certification is no longer valid Unless the consumer verifies that there is actual on-site reliable Rabbinical supervision of the entire individual retail store, no ice cream, yogurt, syrups or toppings should be considered Kosher except for those in their original sealed containers bearing a reliable Kosher certification.
The following are some stores in our area that are not under supervision: Clark's Ice Cream and Yogurt, Haagen-Dazs, Menchie’s, Oberweis, and TCBY.
It is always preferable to buy at fully supervised stores. Locally, soft serve Cholov Yisroel ice cream is available at Jerusalem Pizza. Hard pack Cholov Yisroel ice cream is available at Spreads Bagels & Café, and Soul Café Hard pack non-Cholov Yisroel ice cream and yogurt is available at Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin’ Donuts at 10 Mile & Greenfield in Oak Park (which is K-COR certified for all products). Packaged Cholov Yisroel ice cream is available at The Grove Kosher Market and Lincoln Liquor.
If it is necessary to purchase hard pack ice cream or yogurt from an unsupervised store, the consumer should request and see a sealed container before it is opened, and check for the Kosher certification mark on the container. In addition, the scoop should be thoroughly washed.
Soft serve ice cream or yogurt should not be purchased from an unsupervised store, because of the inability to verify that Kosher mix was put into the machine.
RITA’S ITALIAN ICE & FROZEN CUSTARD OF FARMINGTON HILLS at 11 Mile & Middlebelt is under supervision of the KCOR/Vaad Harabbonim, as Dairy non-Cholov Yisroel. The Italian Ices contain only pareve ingredients.
RITA’S GRAPE GELATI: Certifiers of Kosher RITA’S ICE/CUSTARD STORES should be aware that the new Grape Gelati product is intended to be served with non-Kosher Nerds candy topping. A Kosher alternative is Paskesz Zillions Tangy Candy.
DUNKIN’ BRIOCHE BUNS: Certifiers of Kosher DUNKIN’ DONUTS STORES should be aware that this product is not Kosher certified, and bears no Kosher marking. (Note: These buns are intended to be used with a non-Kosher meat sandwich. Kosher Dunkin Donut stores, including the local K-COR/Vaad Harabbonim certified store at 10 Mile & Greenfield, offer a Kosher [dairy] version - “Hot Honey Veggie… Sandwich”- using Kosher croissants instead of buns, and imitation meat strips.)
KORDAS’ brand BREADS, ROLLS AND BUNS from Metropolitan Baking Co. are K-COR certified and Pas Yisroel (glow-plug method), even if the label does not bear the K-COR symbol, except GREEK STYLE PITA BREAD which is not certified Kosher and should not bear the K-COR symbol.
GREAT VALUE [Walmart] FRUIT CUPS IN 100% JUICE that bear an OU, e.g., Diced Peaches, Diced Pears, etc., are OU certified and contain Kosher grape juice. Be aware, however, that some packages do not bear an OU and should not be used.
ACME WILD CAUGHT HERRING IN CREAM SAUCE contains dairy ingredients, but mistakenly bears OU Pareve instead of OU Dairy.
THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS ARE NOT CERTIFIED KOSHER, but bear unauthorized Kashrus marking on some labels:
• IDAHOAN LOADED BAKED MASHED POTATOES - unauthorized OU symbol.
• NAPOLI ARTICHOKE HEARTS in cans - unauthorized Star-K symbol. [In addition, artichoke hearts have a serious infestation issue.]
• HAPPY BITES CHOCOLATE COVERED COFFEE BEANS- unauthorized cRc symbol.
• PHILOSOPHER FOODS NUT BUTTER - unauthorized Earth K symbol.
• STICKLING'S BAKERY of Canada - unauthorized Earth K symbol.

Supervise your swimmers: A parent/caregiver must be “within arms reach” of their non-swimming child at all times.
Avoid distractions: A Cell phone should be available for emergencies only, not to call or text friends. It only takes seconds for a child to go underwater.
Floaties, life jackets and puddle jumpers do not replace a parent being within arms reach of their child. Babies and toddlers have fallen face down and have gone under water in this equipment.
Secure your pool: Install a solid 5 foot fence with no gaps or areas that a child could climb over. Make sure the gate is self-closing and selflatching. The latch should be open outward and be out of your child’s reach.
Even adults should never swim alone. Teach your child to swim with a buddy and always with a lifeguard or an adult watching. Never assume that another child can safely watch your child in the water.

Notes
This is the perfect summer recipe because you can usually grab whatever leftovers are in the fridge and not heat up the kitchen at all! Use this recipe as a framework.
by Sharon Green, CPT
Let‘s take a walk in the countryside. . .Our ability to balance depends on three main components: sensation from joints and muscles, the inner ear (vestibular system) and vision
Most people don’t understand that they have decreased balance until they begin to stumble. Falls are the number one cause of death from injury in the U.S. Most can be prevented by regularly practicing a variety of walking exercises:
1 Wilder walking (described below)
2. Drills on catching yourself after tripping
3. Dodging & stepping over obstacles
Today I will focus on “wilder walking“ which means, on an unpredictable terrain (dirt path, grass, woodchips, gravel)
Wilder walking requires the need to make split-second decisions that we may even have to change at the last moment. Different angles, textures, springiness, supportiveness and even hidden surprises underfoot make wild walking a truly mindful experience Wild walking also prevents falling into a repetitive and assumed rhythm. If you’ve ever followed a muddy trail or navigated stepping stones across a river, you’ll remember the focus and wherewithal you needed to do it without falling.
It is just this connection between the eye and foot that sharpens the mind as we walk on rougher ground
If you tend towards knee and lower-back issues, health professionals recommend first building up your strength on even ground. Investigating how you walk (gait) can reveal the root cause of any pain or immobility But, in any case, with a healthy musculoskeletal system, walking on uneven terrain ultimately results in more strength and support
