THE MORE SHOES The Better

I've seen it time and again, on the street, in my studio, and even in homes of people who take care of themselves: Old and worn shoes.

What's the problem, after all? If the person's not complaining, then let it be!

Taking care of your body starts with Your Feet. After that, in order: ankles, knees, hips, lower back. As our feet carry us, with each step we take our shoes take a pounding on the interior, impacting the same areas of our foot repetitively. At the same time, the shoe's exterior wears away unevenly, creating an imbalance that affects our body's structure.

We recognize the need to rotate our tires, but did you know it is also important to rotate your shoes? By rotating between pairs (not necessarily different brands) daily, you will help protect your feet, ankles, knees, hips, back, as well as get more out of your shoes. In doing so, you will load your muscles differently to prevent muscular overuse or underuse, and give your feet a chance to repair damage and adapt and strengthen muscles neglected and strained by the previous day's footwear. This way, when you exercise or walk, you will ensure you're performing to your optimal level and avoiding injury.

Before I "walk-off," I'll share the following personal anecdote: Four years ago, my knee began bothering me. I tried different things, but nothing seemed to help. Then I learned about "shoe rotation," and bH, my issue disappeared.

CREAMY VANILLA FROZEN YOGURT

3 cups Greek-style yogurt (plain, nonfat or low fat) 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup maple syrup (or agave nectar or 1/4 cup honey)

Directions with an ice cream mixer 1. Stir all of the ingredients together in a medium to a large bowl.

2. Pour into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's directions, or for about 20- 25 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

3. For harder frozen yogurt or to store, place into an airtight container in the freezer.

If storing for more than 24 hours, covering the surface with wax paper, and then placing on the lid, will prevent ice crystals from forming on the top.

Directions without an ice cream mixer 1. Stir all of the ingredients together in a medium to a large bowl.

2. Pour into a wide shallow container and freeze, uncovered for one and a half hours, scraping and mixing every half hour.

Once evenly frozen, store in an airtight container with a lid.
