Can you stand on one leg for 10 seconds? How about with your eyes closed? A lack of balance is a likely indicator of weakness or health issues. The good news is, for the average healthy person, balance can quickly improve! The practice of balance-challenging activities is superior than anything else. Last month I described two of four balance-challenging activities: 1. The Tandem Stance 2. The Single Leg Stance (December '23 Community Links) Here are the other 2: 3. Heel to Toe Walking: Walk in a straight line, heel to toe. The slower you go, the more you have to control your balance and stabilize. As naturally as possible, turn your head to the side as if you were checking your 3 o'clock. While continuing the walk, center your vision, and then turn your head to your 9 o'clock. Do this along your counter so you can grab on if you need to. 4. Backwards Walking: (also along counter so you can grab on if needed): This is hard to do because we're used to moving forward, and we also can't see where we're going. Practice this over and over until you feel more confident.

• 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts • 4 ounces chopped mild green chilies drained • 2 cloves garlic, minced • 1 yellow onion, diced • 15 ounces diced tomatoes with green chilies, including juice • 15 ounces diced tomatoes with garlic & olive oil, including juice • 1 cup chicken broth - divided • 1 teaspoon cumin • Salt and pepper to taste • 4 corn tortillas cut into 1/4-inch strips • 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped

CROCKPOT CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP
• Dairy-free cheddar cheese shredded • 1 avocado pitted and diced • 1 lime cut into wedges
1. Place chicken in a slow cooker. 2. In a separate bowl, stir together green chilies, garlic, onion, both types of tomatoes, 1/2 cup chicken broth, and cumin. Pour over chicken. 3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 3 hours. (Or on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.) 4. When chicken is tender, remove from the slow cooker and use 2 forks to shred the chicken. Add chicken back into the soup. 5. Add the reserved 1/2 cup of chicken broth to the slow cooker. Season with salt and pepper taste. 6. Just before serving, add tortilla strips and cilantro to the soup and stir. 7. Serve warm with shredded cheese, avocado, and a lime wedge to be squeezed over the bowl of soup
