CAPITAL CAMPAIGN REPORT

2020 GivingMatters.com Capital Campaign Report Since 2007, GivingMatters.com has produced an annual Capital Campaign Report to further the program’s mission of informing and enriching philanthropy in Middle Tennessee. The data in this report is compiled from hundreds of responses to a survey distributed to nearly 1,900 nonprofits throughout Middle Tennessee, as well as from nonprofit data provided in GivingMatters.com. This report intends to:  announce new campaigns to local funders;  give donors an update on funds raised-to-date in ongoing capital campaigns;  provide information on recently completed campaigns;  share preliminary plans for capital campaigns in the next three years; and  note trends over time in Middle Tennessee. A capital campaign is defined as a fundraising effort beyond annual operating or program budgets, which is focused on the purchase of a permanent asset (land, building, major equipment) or a major renovation project. Endowment campaigns may also be part of a capital campaign. Last year, Middle Tennessee nonprofits self-reported 77 campaigns in process. This year’s report includes details from 70 organizations reporting involvement in current capital campaigns. The number of anticipated capital campaigns reported is the same as last year’s report. 50 campaigns are expected to launch in the next three years, and 50 campaigns were reported to be in the planning stages last year. GivingMatters.com is an online resource that informs, empowers, and enriches charitable giving in Middle Tennessee. GivingMatters.com furthers the cause of philanthropy in our region by promoting nonprofit transparency and putting nonprofit information at the fingertips of donors, volunteers, and community members. Campaign Description Provided by Agency After 14 successful years serving cancer patients and their families, the need for renovation at Hope Lodge Nashville is urgent. The current facility has become outdated and is showing the effects of constant use in ways that may impact the quality of guest and caregiver experiences, as well as their health and safety. Several areas of the facility need improvements and retrofitting. Therefore, the American Cancer Society is launching a capital campaign with a preliminary goal of $2.5 million to secure support for renovations and operational reserves.

Battle of Franklin Trust hopes to communicate the Franklin narrative in a more complete and comprehensive form through the new Carter House Museum and museum experience, expanded 19th century immersion with continued battlefield reclamation, increased interpretive signage, and restoration and interpretation of the Carnton spring house. A more expansive understanding of those enslaved in Franklin will be facilitated by relocation of the Carter slave cabin to a more historically accurate location as noted on the State of Tennessee Master Plan for the Carter House site, increased interpretation at the slave house at Carnton, as well as archaeological projects identifying the slave homes in the south fields at Carnton that have been lost to time. The installation and expansion of historic crops and orchards at both Carter & Carnton, and the creation of walking paths throughout newly interpreted farm property, will help visitors learn in a physical environment more raw and representative of the 19th century. Education

Belmont University has announced its largest, most extensive fundraising campaign in the institution's 126-year history. Centered on the theme "We Believe" and intended to raise and invest $300 million, the campaign builds on the momentum garnered through Belmont's quasquicentennial anniversary and focuses attention on five areas that are key to the University's Vision 2020 strategic priorities, including scholarships, faculty support, and missions. The $300 million campaign will include total money raised through December 31, 2020. In addition to private and corporate giving, the University will match endowment gifts between $25,000 and $1.5 million with unrestricted income to double the donor's impact. Thanks to strong economic management and cost control, Belmont is able to partner with supporters to invest in the nonprofit institution's future. Statewide, National

The Shower Truck/Shower Up

Human Services

The Joseph School Inc. is in a capital campaign to raise the funds necessary to construct three vital buildings – a dining hall + chapel, a new classroom building and an administrative building. These spaces will be essential to accompany the anticipated growth of the staff and student body at The Joseph School. International The Shower Truck/Shower Up seeks to provide mobile bathroom facilities for those who are experiencing homelessness. Currently, our homeless neighbors have very limited access to toilets and it's a problem for businesses, the library and public spaces. This mobile unit would go where the homeless are to serve them and reduce the strain on city and business Davidson resources.

Health

Money raised through this capital campaign will be used to build Thisbe & Noah's Promise Park. Promise Park will be an all-inclusive playground located at the Nashville Zoo that will bring together children of all abilities and disabilities to create inclusion, empathy and side-by-side play.
