2014 GivingMatters.com Capital Campaign Report Since 2007, GivingMatters.com has produced an annual Capital Campaign Report for our region. The data in this report is compiled from hundreds of responses to a survey sent to more than 1,300 nonprofits throughout Middle Tennessee. The purpose of the report is to: Announce new campaigns to local funders. Give donors an update on funds raised-to-date in ongoing capital campaigns. Provide information on recently completed campaigns. Announce preliminary plans for capital campaigns in the next three years. Note trends over time in Middle Tennessee. A capital campaign, for the purposes of this report, is defined as a fundraising effort beyond annual operating or program budgets. A capital campaign is focused on the purchase of a permanent asset (land, building, major equipment) or a major renovation project. Endowment campaigns may also be part of a capital campaign. Last year, Middle Tennessee nonprofits self-reported 80 campaigns in process. In this year’s report, 74 organizations report involvement in current capital campaigns. After a slight decline in 2013, the number of anticipated nonprofit capital campaigns has grown. In 2010, 75 organizations reported that they planned to launch a campaign within five years. In the 2011 and 2012 reports, the number rose to an impressive 131 and 184 nonprofits, respectively, anticipating campaigns within the next three years alone. After dropping to 137 in 2013, this year 166 nonprofits report anticipated campaigns to launch between 2015 and 2017.
