WHAT MAKES STRONG DESIGN INSIDER CONTENT?

The strongest Design Insider articles go beyond announcements. They explore the thinking, expertise, challenges and decisions behind a story, helping readers understand not just what happened, but why it matters.

Whilst product launches, project completions and company news are all important, our readers are most engaged when content explores the thinking behind the story. They want to understand the challenges, decisions, expertise, inspiration and lessons learned.

For example:

Press Release: “We have launched a new upholstery fabric collection.”

3,000+ NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS

40,000+ MONTHLY LINKEDIN IMPRESSIONS

Editorial Story: “What changing hospitality specification requirements inspired the development of our new upholstery fabric collection?”

Press Release: “We have completed a workplace project.”

Editorial Story: “How collaboration, user engagement and sustainability targets shaped the outcome of a workplace project.”

Don’t worry if you’re unsure how to make that transition. Interviews, Q&As and collaborative editorial formats can all be developed with the Design Insider team.

If you’re looking for inspiration, these are a small selection of some of the themes and questions currently generating interest across the commercial interiors sector:

- Has hospitality become the benchmark for every commercial space?

- Are AI and craft a co-dependent couple?

- Are we designing for neurodiversity, or designing for everyone?

- Will wellness become the driving force in hospitality design?

- How can material innovation solve the challenges designers face today?

- How can art in the workplace express culture, identity and belonging?

- Photography featuring people

- Behind-the-scenes imagery

- Installation or project photography

- Product photography in context

- High-resolution images suitable for digital publication

The most successful articles combine strong storytelling with authentic, engaging visuals.

DESIGN INSIDER CONTENT SUBMISSION POLICY

DESIGN INSIDER IS AN EDITORIAL PLATFORM FOR THE COMMERCIAL INTERIORS SECTOR, CREATED TO SHARE INSIGHT, IDEAS, PROJECTS, PRODUCT INNOVATION, EXPERT OPINION AND INDUSTRY NEWS FROM ACROSS THE COMMERCIAL INTERIORS UK COMMUNITY.

Content submission is a valued benefit for Commercial Interiors UK accredited members. It gives accredited members the opportunity to share their work, expertise and perspective with a wider audience of designers, suppliers, manufacturers, specifiers and commercial interiors professionals.

To protect the quality, relevance and editorial value of Design Insider, all submitted content is reviewed by the editorial team before publication. Submission does not guarantee publication as a full article, and the final format, timing and placement of content will be guided by editorial judgement.

EDITORIAL PRINCIPLES

Design Insider is an editorially led magazine. This means content is selected, shaped and published according to its relevance to the audience, editorial value, quality, timing and contribution to the wider conversation within the commercial interiors sector.

We welcome content that informs, inspires, challenges or supports the sector. Strong submissions usually offer one or more of the following:

- A clear industry insight or point of view

- A relevant project, product or material story

- Evidence of innovation, design thinking or technical expertise

- A meaningful sustainability, circularity, manufacturing, export or sector-specific angle

- Commentary on a timely or emerging topic

- Practical value for designers, specifiers, suppliers or commercial interiors professionals

- Strong first-person commentary, quotes or expert perspectives that bring a human voice to the story

Design Insider readers respond well to content that includes clear personal insight, informed opinion and direct commentary from the people behind a project, product, business or idea. Content written in an impersonal brand voice, or presented as a purely promotional announcement, is often less engaging for our audience.

Content that is highly sales-led, overly promotional, lacking a clear audience angle, or not aligned with Design Insider’s editorial tone may not be suitable for publication in its submitted form.

WHAT MAKES STRONG CONTENT?

The strongest Design Insider articles go beyond announcements. They explore the thinking, expertise, challenges and decisions behind a story, helping readers understand not just what happened, but why it matters.

Within a product launch announcement consider the design challenge, material development, manufacturing process, or sector need behind the launch.

Within a project completion announcement consider the design brief, collaboration, constraints, lessons learned and outcome.

The editorial team can support members in shaping stronger angles where appropriate. Interviews, Q&As and collaborative editorial formats may be suggested when they would help bring greater value, personality or clarity to a story.

OUR AIM

The purpose of this policy is not to restrict member visibility, but to make the content submission process clearer, fairer and more effective.

By setting clearer expectations, Design Insider can continue to champion Commercial Interiors UK accredited members and trusted suppliers, while ensuring the platform remains editorially valuable, commercially relevant and engaging for its readers.

Design Insider is at its strongest when contributors share expertise, perspective and experience that helps move the commercial interiors conversation forward.

HOW SUBMITTED

CONTENT MAY BE USED

WHERE APPROPRIATE, MEMBER SUBMISSIONS MAY BE DEVELOPED INTO ONE OF SEVERAL EDITORIAL FORMATS. THESE MAY INCLUDE:

Full editorial feature

Best for strong insight, major projects, original interviews, market commentary, meaningful innovation, thought leadership or strategic Commercial Interiors UK priorities.

Short website news item

Best for launches, appointments, awards, showroom updates, partnerships, business developments or smaller announcements that are relevant to the Design Insider audience.

Roundup inclusion

Best when several accredited members are talking about similar themes, or where individual stories are useful but may be stronger when presented as part of a wider sector, product, event or trend-led feature.

Newsletter or social media mention

Best for light updates, reminders, event attendance, quick announcements or signposting to relevant member activity.

Held for future publication

Best for content that has editorial value but would be more effective at a later date, or when aligned with a future article, sector focus, event, campaign or wider industry conversation.

Not suitable in its current form

This may apply where content is too promotional, too brief, lacks a clear reader benefit, does not include suitable imagery, duplicates recent coverage, or does not offer enough editorial value in its submitted form.

The editorial team may recommend a different format from the one originally proposed, depending on the strength of the story, available space, current editorial priorities and audience relevance.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES AND TURNAROUND TIMES

To allow time for editorial review, scheduling, editing and publication, members should submit content at least two weeks before their preferred publication date.

Where possible, the editorial team will review and process submissions within two to four weeks. This timescale may vary depending on the volume of content received, the quality of the submitted material, the availability of suitable images or quotes, and the current editorial schedule.

Members are encouraged to share time-sensitive content as early as possible, particularly where publication is linked to an event, product launch, award announcement, exhibition, campaign or project milestone.

While the editorial team will take preferred publication dates into account, publication on a specific date cannot always be guaranteed.

FAIR USE AND EDITORIAL BALANCE

Design Insider aims to represent the breadth of Commercial Interiors UK accredited members and trusted suppliers. To ensure fair visibility across the community, publication frequency may vary depending on the volume of submissions received, the balance of sectors and product categories represented, and the relevance of each submission to the wider audience.

Where an accredited member submits multiple pieces of content within a short period, the editorial team may prioritise the strongest or most timely story and hold, adapt or redirect other submissions for later use.

This approach is designed to ensure that member visibility remains fair, valuable and sustainable, while maintaining Design Insider’s editorial integrity and audience engagement.

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION PROCESS

TO KEEP THE PROCESS CLEAR AND EFFICIENT, DESIGN INSIDER WILL USUALLY COMMUNICATE WITH THE SUBMITTING MEMBER AT TWO KEY STAGES: WHEN THE SUBMISSION HAS BEEN RECEIVED, AND WHEN THE CONTENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED OR PUBLISHED.

THE USUAL PROCESS IS AS FOLLOWS:

1. Submission received

The member submits their content, images and supporting information to the Design Insider editorial team.

2. Acknowledgement sent to member

The editorial team acknowledges receipt of the submission. This confirms that the content has been received and will be reviewed. It does not confirm that the content will be published, or that it will be published as a full article.

3. Internal editorial review

The submission is assessed internally for relevance, quality, audience value, timing, editorial balance and suitability for Design Insider.

4. Internal format and scheduling decision

The editorial team determines the most appropriate use of the content. This may be a full editorial feature, short news item, roundup inclusion, newsletter mention, social media post, future scheduled item or another suitable format.

5. Internal editing and preparation

Where content is accepted for publication, the editorial team may edit the copy for clarity, tone, length, structure and house style. Additional information, images or quotes may be requested only where required.

6. Publication

The content is published on Design Insider in the agreed or allocated format.

PUBLICATION IS SUBJECT TO REVIEW

7. Publication confirmation sent to member

Once the content has been scheduled or published, the member will receive an email confirming the publication details and, where available, a link to the article.

8. Newsletter and social media consideration

Where appropriate, published content may also be shared through the Design Insider newsletter and social media channels. Inclusion in newsletter or social media activity is subject to editorial planning, timing and available space, and may not be confirmed separately.

All submissions are reviewed before publication. The editorial team reserves the right to:

- Edit copy for clarity, length, tone and house style

- Request further information, images or comments

- Change the headline, introduction or structure

- Recommend a different content format

- Delay publication to support editorial balance

- Decline content that is not suitable for Design Insider

Where a submission is not suitable as a full editorial feature, the team may suggest an alternative route where appropriate.
