WE’RE DELIGHTED TO SHARE OUR CLERKENWELL DESIGN WEEK PREVIEW, A CURATED LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING ACROSS THE WEEK, FROM HEADLINE INSTALLATIONS AND NEW VENUES TO THE LAUNCHES AND EVENTS OUR MEMBERS HAVE IN STORE.
We love the atmosphere that the week brings. The showrooms open their doors, the streets fill with conversation, and the pace of the industry shifts, from emails and deadlines to chance encounters, shared coffees and those “have you seen this yet?” recommendations that shape the week.
We’ll be there for all of it. Walking between showrooms, hoping the weather holds, and quietly relying on word of mouth to lead us to the best ice cream (we enjoyed a few last year) and cocktails, (again good reports from last year)!
This preview brings together product and event highlights from our accredited members, alongside what we’re most looking forward to across the week.
Because if Clerkenwell Design Week does one thing well, it’s this: it reminds us that design doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens through people, places and the conversations in between.

CLERKENWELL DESIGN WEEK IS MANY THINGS AT ONCE.
IT’S A SHOWCASE OF NEW PRODUCTS, A PLATFORM FOR BIG IDEAS, A MEETING POINT FOR THE INDUSTRY BUT AT ITS CORE, IT’S SOMETHING MUCH SIMPLER: A COMING TOGETHER OF PEOPLE THROUGH DESIGN.
Now in its 15th year, CDW continues to evolve, but the spirit remains the same. For a few days, this part of London transforms. Streets, showrooms, churches and hidden spaces become part of a wider conversation, one that moves easily between disciplines and perspectives.
That’s what makes it so compelling. Where else could you move from puppy yoga to a discussion on regenerative design, to building a kinetic mobile, to ending the day in a hidden bank vault with a cocktail in hand? It’s this mix, of serious thinking and lightness, of research and play, that gives CDW its energy.
This year’s Design Interventions theme feels particularly exciting for the famous installations that take over the area.
- Crinkle Crankle Bench by Studio FOLK at St James Church brings a playful rethinking of structure and form into a historic setting
- Fountain of Technicolour by One Bite Design at Clerkenwell Green explores colour vision deficiency through a bold, immersive installation
- At the new venue Haberdashers’ Hall, The Pulse of Becoming, designed by graduates from Portsmouth, will evolve throughout the week, with chia seeds woven into the structure gradually growing in real time
There’s also a noticeable expansion of venues this year: - Order of St John, dating back to 1504, will host Spanish Interiors
- The renaming of Project to Commercial Design in the Park, to better reflect the brands exhibiting in the space.
And one I’m particularly looking forward to seeing up close: Confluence by Fung + Bedford — an origami-inspired installation suspended within the Church of Design. Having covered it on Design Insider, it’s one of those pieces that feels made for the scale and drama of Clerkenwell.

Beyond the installations, CDW continues to ask bigger questions, some of the talks and panels that we’re making a bee line for:
- Remake, Reuse, Revalue explores what a circular-first furniture industry could look like. Tue 19 May, 1 PM - 2:30 PM - Regenerative Design by 2030 pushes beyond sustainability into something more ambitious. Tue 19 May, 5 PM - 6:30 PM
- And the panel on AI in Architecture (which I’ll be moderating) looks at how technology can support, rather than replace, creative thinking. Wed 20 May, 2 PM - 3:00 PM
These are the conversations shaping the industry right now and CDW creates the space for them to happen openly.
THE ATMOSPHERE (WHAT CDW REALLY DOES BEST)
But beyond the programme, beyond the installations and talks, there’s something less tangible that defines Clerkenwell Design Week. It’s the atmosphere. The sense that the industry, often so dispersed, is suddenly in one place. That conversations happen more freely. Those ideas move faster because they’re being shared in real time, face to face.
It’s the mix of people: designers, makers, specifiers, students, brands, all bringing different perspectives into the same spaces. And it’s that energy, that melting pot, that makes the week what it is.
CDW doesn’t just showcase design. It activates it.

Hypnos, Newmor Wallcoverings, Ulster Carpets and The Panaz Group will come together in Clerkenwell to co-host an industry event focused on one of hospitality’s most significant shifts: how design is responding to changing patterns of stay.
As guest expectations continue to change, the traditional hotel room is no longer the only model shaping hospitality design. Travellers are increasingly seeking flexibility, autonomy and interiors that feel more personal and residential, while still delivering the quality, service and operational performance expected from hospitality environments. From serviced apartments and aparthotels to branded residences, members’ clubs and hybrid travel models, this evolution is influencing brand strategy, investment decisions and the way interiors are being designed and specified.
When every aesthetic seems available harder to define. Inspiration is constant, culture now moves at a pace that can temporary. In that environment, the challenge with trends. It is knowing what deserves and what deserves to endure.
This discussion opens up that tension. It trend saturation, how they distinguish design still has a role, and what it means shaped by constant change. The goal is to ask what meaningful design leadership

THINKING IN A WORLD OF CONSTANT
available at once, design leadership becomes constant, references are endless, and visual can make even the strongest ideas feel challenge is no longer simply keeping up deserves attention, what deserves resistance,
It looks at how designers are navigating originality from repetition, where safe means to talk about legacy in a market is not to dismiss trends altogether. It is leadership looks like when everything is “in”.
AI is rapidly transforming architecture. Some see opportunity, others see risk. These industry voices explore how artificial intelligence can support design without replacing human expertise. How can AI enhance creativity? Improve efficiency? And where should ethical boundaries be drawn?

As humans we are all being bombarded with 11 million bits of sensory information every second, but we can only process a fraction of that. Designing neuroinclusive, high functioning spaces requires us to address that sensory assault – sound, lighting, temperature, smells, color - in the spaces we occupy. Addressing neuroaesthetics helps our brain processes and responds to aesthetic elements as well, bridging the gap between art and science.
