ACCREDITED MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA & FEES Accredited Membership is available to companies that meet the strict membership criteria. Manufacturers and suppliers of commercial furnishing products and services are welcome to apply for membership which will be evaluated by the board and council. Accredited Membership is not automatic but when achieved is recognition of a company’s professional status.
ALL POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS MUST: Already be significantly engaged in contract furnishing design, manufacturing or supply. Whilst Commercial Interiors UK members do not have to be a British Manufacturer (many are) they are required to add value through service, design and expertise. Be accredited with all the relevant manufacturing standards for their products.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE STRUCTURE: Members pay an annual fee which is based on the company’s contract turnover. When a company moves into a new fee category they are required to advise Commercial Interiors UK and a revised fee will be payable on renewal.

As the UK’s trade association for the commercial furnishing sector, Commercial Interiors UK (CIUK) empowers its accredited members by driving growth across the industry. Every initiative we undertake is designed to support our members’ businesses, ensuring they thrive and lead in a competitive marketplace. In this interview, Sean Holt, CIUK’s Managing Director, explains how the organisation reinvests in its members and provides value through advocacy, networking, and tailored resources. Q1. What makes CIUK unique as a trade association? A. Everything we do links back to our members and how we can assist their businesses to thrive. Our work is built on three pillars: advocacy, networking and events, and industry-specific publishing. Every membership fee, ticket sale, or sponsorship is reinvested into activities that deliver value. Whether it’s opening new markets, providing key insights, or fostering meaningful connections, our focus is always on supporting our members’ success. Q2. How does CIUK advocate for its members? A. Advocacy is at the heart of our role. We ensure our members’ collective interests are represented in key industry conversations and at government level. For 2026 we rejoined the British Furniture Confederation to support our members through their work at government level. Our partnership with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) gives members access to subsidised export opportunities, including trade missions to Saudi Arabia. These initiatives unlock global markets and help members compete internationally. We also lobby on issues impacting our members, ensuring their voices heard. Q3. What role does networking play in CIUK’s activities? A. Networking is critical to helping members grow their businesses. At CIUK, we’ve reimagined networking to create meaningful interactions that drive results: Formal Events, such as the Annual Luncheon, foster executive-level connections. Informal Events, like the Summer Party, provide relaxed opportunities for relationship-building.
Exhibitions, including Clerkenwell Design Week and HIX, offer exclusive visibility through member maps and supplier breakfasts. Our online magazine, Design Insider, connects the commercial community with engaging editorial content, showcasing members’ projects and products to their target audience. Q4. How does CIUK support members through resources and initiatives? A. We publish a weekly Newsflash for our members, sharing core industry news alongside project and current sales opportunities. Providing industry-specific resources is vital part of our work. In 2026, we’ll publish two exclusive focused reports, equipping members with actionable insights to target growth. We’re expanding our training initiatives, following the success of our sales training pilot. Additionally, partnerships with organisations including FIESTA and FISP ensure members gain expertise in sustainability, skills development, and education. Q5. How does CIUK ensure members see a return on their investment? A. At CIUK, we’re committed to ensuring our members see clear returns on their investment. We enable members to see business growth through in-person sales relationship building events, we enable strategic growth and best business practice through our sector reports, support businesses through advocacy, and digitally place our members in front of their target customers with our industry leading online magazine, Design Insider. In 2026, we’ll focus on expanding these efforts.

Being appointed as Chair of the CIUK is a great honour. Our previous chair, Carolyn Mitchell, steered us through extremely difficult times and built a platform on which we can face the future with confidence. We must now revisit our mission, broaden our appeal across all sectors and encourage new members to join and contribute to the future. Our future prosperity lies in the hands of the next generation of students, designers, architects and business leaders and we must strive to make our industry and organisation more accessible and attractive to them. They rightly demand better cultural balance and representation and this must be reflected in everything we do. Our young people have experienced very difficult times in the past ten to twenty years, with constant wars, conflict and Covid, quite unlike the peaceful times that many of us grew up in. It is our duty to rebuild their trust and confidence and provide them with a forum to meet their peers, learn, prosper and have fun.
