Sponsored by the New York Type Directors Club, the 8th Annual Awards Exhibit drew a total of 2300 entries from the United States and Canada. The jury selected 214 pieces, 17 of which are shown here. Edgar]. Malecki was exhibition chairman. Headed by jury chairman Robert Sutter, the judges were: Milton K. Zudeck, art director and typographer, McCann-Erickson, Inc.; Oscar Ogg, art director, Book-of-the-Month Club; Henry Wolf, art director, Show Magazine; Paul Rand, designer.

We noted with pride that CA-61's cover was one of the pieces selected. The show was hung at the Mead Library of Ideas, has since become a traveling exhibition.

Art for Artists is our feature title for work created with the artist as the client. We've always used a broad interpretation, here and in CA-62, that includes work for agencies or graphic organizations.

It's one of our favorite features, keep sending samples.

One day, early last March, we received a brown paper bag in the mail.

As we opened the bag and slid out the contents, it looked suspiciously like a

sandwich. It was. The rye bread was a little stale but the filling was delightful.

This was our invitation to the annual Hogan-Kaus Lithograph Company St. Patrick's Day beer bust. The idea, design and art were a product of designer Jerry Berman's fertile imagination.
