As the Editor-in-Chief of the 2022-2023 Pathways Annual Art and Literary Magazine, I would like to thank everybody who contributed by submitting artwork and literary pieces. Editing Pathways Magazine was definitely an experience I will always remember. It has been amazing being able to watch this magazine go from nothing to where it is now.
The Theme of this year’s edition of Pathways was “Mixtape”
The definition of Mixtape is “a compilation, typically from multiple sources, placed onto a medium.” To me, that represents the wide variety of art and writing styles represented in Pathways Magazine. While different, the pieces in this magazine complement each other and bring things out that you would have never noticed. When different styles came together, they made a beautiful collection of art, just like a mixtape.
I hope you enjoy the 41st edition of the Pathways Annual Art and Literary magazine.
Bryce InfaldEditor-in-ChiefAs Co-editor of the 2022-2023 Pathways Annual Art and Literary magazine. I would like to thank all the artists, editors, and anyone who contributed to making the magazine.
My Experience as Co-editor was interesting and an experience that I will remember throughout high school years. It was such a learning experience.
In the making of the magazine I learned that artwork can be displayed in different ways. The magazine’s theme is mixtape and it definitely fit its name because it is a mix of many artworks in one format. It could also represent different types of art not only drawings. I also like the different types and all the works of art that was put into the magazine.
I hope you enjoy reading and looking into all the art that was displayed in the Pathways Annual Art and Literary magazine!
Elaina Kong Co-EditorA blanket changing colors throughout the day
Protecting us from the world outside
Reaching out some days
Just to say hi
Peeking up in the sky
With the white cotton candy
Planes flying over
Catching a beautiful sight
As the night comes
The sky black as an obsidian
Holding the stars up high
Goodbye blue sky -
Art by Alissa PataneMix tapes, a collection of sound
Asymphony of beats and lyrics bound
Ajourney through emotions and time
Areflection of the artist's mind
From the crackle of the cassette tape
To the carefully curated track list to escape
Aworld of pain, a world of strife
Asanctuary for the soul, a reprieve from life
Each song a story, each beat a rhyme
Areflection of the artist's heart and mind
Asoundtrack to life, a guiding light
In the darkness of the night
Mix tapes, a time capsule of youth
Areminder of moments, love, and truth
Aconnection to a past, a present, a future
Atreasure trove of memories, forever pure
To the new sounds of tomorrow, so clear
Mix tapes, a medium of art
Areflection of the human heart.

"ASymphony of Sound:APoem on the Power of Mixtapes"
Verse 1:
Listen to the beats, hear the rhythm
Feel the flow, let it take you in
These mixtapes, they're my sanctuary
Aplace to escape and let my mind begin
Chorus:
Mixtapes, they're my guiding light
My source of inspiration in the darkest night
With every beat and every rhyme
I'm living my dream, it's my time to shine
Verse 2: From the streets of the city to the countryside
The sound of music will always be my guide
With every verse, every line
I'm painting a picture, it's my design
Chorus:
Mixtapes, they're my guiding light
My source of inspiration in the darkest night
With every beat and every rhyme
I'm living my dream, it's my time to shine
Bridge:
With every note, every chord
I'm telling a story, it's my own reward
From the highs to the lows
These mixtapes, they're the place where I know
Chorus:
Mixtapes, they're my guiding light
My source of inspiration in the darkest night
With every beat and every rhyme
I'm living my dream, it's my time to shine
Outro:
So put on your headphones, turn up the volume
Let the mixtape take you on a journey
Through the streets, through the clouds
This is my story, it's my sound.
ByTayemAhmedand Emotion"
The strong foundation that this tree is laid upon The grass that surrounds it is as soft as a pillow
My heart simply beams at the sight of this comforting tree
As the trunk is tall and dark
With its sturdiness like a rock, it brings strength to the land As the branches grow out knowing that they are supported
The leaves begin to grow, greener than before Cautiously venturing out in the world
Proud of who they are
The flowers big and small begin to bloom With speckled pink and white skin
Eager to show their beauty to the world
As the days go forth, The petals and pebbles begin to litter the ground
Yet the tree looks just as healthy as before
Because no matter how much the wind sways
The flowers, the leaves and the land around Just stay put
By Saswati BhattacharyaI went to sing
But my tongue curled into a knot
Twisting and swirling
My mind now wrapped in a disorientated twist
The lyrics i had ready to preach
Were reduced to a shrinking crisp
All tangled and mangled
The music i was once ready to prepare
Will never be shared.
By Emma Morse -Kevin SuszczynskiI am the crown to your head always making you feel superior I am the cure to your illness getting rid of health problems
I am the only person that could break your heart
I am not just a photo you see in an album I will not let you suffer in this world because of the things you have or have not done
I am the letter in the word
I am the ink to a pen
I am the car to a phone
I am the idiot always following around
I am just a backpack that you use everyday or am the chair you sit in daily
we are alike you and I but we don’t have as many conversations as we used to
By Kruti PatelThe Little Tree
Little tree in the distance
Swaying to the rhythm of the wind
Its trunk standing in persistence
As winter’s tide rolls in one final time, leaving the world resigned
As little flowers grow next to the little tree, Keeping them company as the sky becomes blue once more
With the world beginning its wake up routine, everything is as busy as it can
As bees buzz, and birds chirp and little kids go out to explore
The little tree feels it leaves ruffle
And the grass tickle his toes
While the flowers gossip and start up trouble
The hill stands tall and proud, while the grass continues to grow
The little tree feeling fuzzy and warm
Looks up as the sun caresses the world
The winter storm;
Finally over, while the spring wind swirled
The little tree sees life all around And feels that the hill, the flowers and grass
All love the sweet sound
As the ice breaks away like glass
The little tree realizes Spring was finally found
