Editor’s Note Welcome to the 2021-22 PATHWAYS Annual Art and Literary Magazine! A big “thank you” is due to everyone who submitted their outstanding artwork and poetry.

Working on the PATHWAYS magazine was an unforgettable experience. It was an honor to collect and show off the imagination and creativity of the class of 2025. We hope we did your work justice.

This year’s theme was “Dreamscapes” Regular dreams, lucid dreams, daydreams, nightmares, dreams for the future; they all evoke different thoughts and emotions inside the mind. Little is known about how and why dreams exist. Most scientists agree that when a person sleeps deeply, various regions of the brain remain active. Dreams stem from networks in the brain during this time, like a continuation of the thoughts and recollections that we have when we’re awake.

Dreams play a major role in both the waking and resting world.

We hope you’ll enjoy the next few moments as you journey through the pages of the 2021-2022 PATHWAYS Annual Art and Literature Magazine.

As the “Editor” of this literary magazine, I’d like to discuss the experiences i had while working in Pathways. Right to the point, this project was a pleasurable process that was made even better by the amazing team we had. I really did enjoy the fun times we shared in the editing room as we discussed and shared ideas. I have no regrets, and it helped me make some great new friends. Of course, work was sometimes difficult, but nothing that a tad bit of persuasion can’t fix. Admittedly, it was painful at the beginning because we were all new to such an experience.

Some time later, after some coaxing, we got enough work to put together the literary ah….

magazine. There were some ups and downs, fueled by my…interesting remarks when someone would neglected to submit work or make it to a meeting on time.

Despite this, we got everything done! I hope people will enjoy the results of our hard work.

A Dream in The Making We all dream at night, Asleep in our beds, Or during the day, When boredom’s in our head,

Dreams may be bad, Or good like they should, But even the bad ones, Can lead to something good,

You can dream all you want, About anything too, Like things that you know, Or things to pursue,

Without these bad ideas, We cannot see a change, Between the good and the bad, Or any other range,

They can be things that you love, Although nightmares are bad, And scary and whining, Or things that you hate, They can be things that you want, They can be unhealthy or odd, But there is a silver lining, Like a toy or a date, They can be wild and fun, Or simple and strict, They can be understandable, Or hard to depict,

If we only had good, And no bad, not a bit, Then it would all be average, If you think about it,

We all have them you know, I hope you now see the positives, So do not say that you don’t, And you still know how things seem, But you know good from bad, You may remember them, So goodnight and sweet dreams, Or maybe you won’t, Casey Schwartz

Nightmares I’m cold and sweaty Its weird and scary No words can describe its agony I fear it is very weary Slowly but surely getting closer by every second I can hear it’s claws dragging on the floor with every step It’s breath is as heavy as lead Any second now it’ll find me and that will be the end But there is light I go to the light in hopes of safety It is right behind me and it’s really scary I reach the light…and i’m awake It was just a dream…a bad dream

Dreams The thing about dreams is crazy.

At one moment they’re a figment of your imagination and the next reality.

One night, you’re a superhero who fights evil every hour.

The next, you’re a sorcerer who possess great power.

When we wake from our fantasies it seems that we are back to reality; what we’re used to.

But really, we would rather be in our dreams.

“In Contrast With Euphoria” on monday night i had a dream we were in the kitchen you were breathing and i was breathing and i could taste the sound of those breathes meeting i can’t explain it but it tasted like spoonfuls of honey the tea was steaming curls of vapor in cloud-like dream-like fashion and there were spiderwebs yes, spiderwebs, outside the window laced with mid morning dew but the dream has ended the tea has stopped steaming the dew has dripped away i’m in the kitchen leaving for the garden you’re in the closet knowing what outfit you want to wear but you’re too afraid to wear it there are flowers to pick in the garden but you say you’re scared of the thorns i’m sorry but i think we should leave it at a dream.

Introduction to reality and fantasy

Have you ever felt an out of body, realistic experience while you are aware you are sleeping? Lucid dreaming is when you know that you are dreaming while you are asleep.

During this state, the individual can take over their dream and control it to some degree. They can now guide the direction of their dream. Now you might be wondering, how can I even be aware that I am having a lucid dream? During nearly all non-lucid dreams, people can not be conscious of the fact they are in a dream. However while having a lucid dream, the person can recognize that what is occurring is not real and it is taking place in a dream. Some indications to help you comprehend that you are having a lucid dream is that your dream was very vivid, you controlled your dream to some extent, and you have exceptionally intense emotions. In order to attempt to have a lucid dream purposely, there are many researched ways and theories to do so such as; having a dream journal, using the wake back to bed technique, or experiment with the mnemonic induction of lucid dreams.

Lucid dreams can be very advantageous and healthy. They can help you conquer fears in your life. There is an abundant amount of more information to discover and absorb about lucid dreaming that scientists research for frequently.

Lunar Thoughts How can i explain this This feeling, so vague So cloudy this feeling of such wrongness it hurts my head hurts this fever will not break the sky is dark it’s nighttime, dreamland and i can’t see you i think that’s for the best “i have come so far”, you say as you pluck a rose from the ground bathed in the dying remnants of moonlight it’s not long before the storm will hit “i have come so painfully far only to watch everything fall anyway” yes, everything is falling the moon isn’t strong enough it can’t illuminate the cliff but we know the things that are falling “close your eyes” i say “it’s best to dream as long as we can”
