TYPe WaLK by Morgan van Breda I began my adventures to capture photographs of text found in the city of Vancouver. The city is full of inspiration and I wanted to use Marketing and Merchandising as a theme, I ended up touring the city to shopping markets and malls where I got most of my images from signage, Tshirts, advertising, products and more.
FONT: ARIAL BLACK This was from Granville Island Market a tourist attraction in Vancouver. This neon red sign grabs attention with the boldness of the letters.
This is the signage for A Bread Affair painted on the side of a building, I focused on the A because of the uniqueness and free flowing form of the text.
The word happy really feels playful with its loops and circular movements compliment the text.
This “N” was taken from the word HAPPINESS in capitals. It is in yellow that brings a feeling of sunshine and joy.
This “E” was made out from five rectangles in alternating colors white and red. This is a good example of an abstract letter.
FONT: BAKERSVILLE This poster was hanging in the window of a store, the word “SALE” is very prominent in the way the poster was designed.
This is the “S” from CHACHI’S sign in the food court. The sans serif font is clean and simple in design with no logo.
FONT: POP ROCK - Arial Rounded This POP ROCK embossed letters found in a music store, dividing music genres in the record section
FONT: ARIAL BLACK This was from a book store, the word “SOUTH” with the black and white contrast this is where my eye is drawn. The Book COOL BEANS also stands out with its simplistic font.
The popcorn container caught my eye on the self of a store, it uses the word popcorn in bright red type with a fisheye effect.
This type is from the Vancouver Flee Market, this type is painted on the side of the building in white with a black undershadow giving it debth. The “O” is perfectly round and compliments the roundess of the letters.
