Gladiolus Undulatus The Iridaceae Family

The Iris Species The Gladiolus Undulatus flower is widely naturalized in Southern Australia. It has an upright herbaceous and leaves growing up to 1.4 m tall. The leaves are sword shaped, and the flowers are whitish or cream in colour and arranged in small clusters. Each flower usually has about 6 petals each, some with a ting of green or pink to them. The petals are also around 5-7cm long, and have a distinctive wave margin.

Garalde Book Display ITC Giovanni is an Old Style,Ventian, humanist serif font by designer Robert Slimbach between 1985 and 1987. Giovannoi was published officially by the International Typeface Corporation in 1986. This font was inspired by the Renaissance faces in the 15th century such as typeface Garamond.

Though Slimbach wanted to try a different approach to ITC Giovanni, although it was heavily influenced by font Garamond. ITC Giovanni has distinctive qualities, these qualities gave the font a modern, and robust appeal which made it instantly popular in the book publishing and design areas due to its readability and overall appeal.

ITC Galliard is an Old Style, venetian, serif typeface. The font was developed originally by the designer Robert granjon, In the 1560s, Granjon labored in Antwerp. Four hundred years later, the punches and matrices he left behind would become the beginnings of Galliard. In 1965 , another designer named Mathew Carter took up Granjon’s original work and created a reinterpretation of his style.” Four centuries and change after Granjon’s original design, ITC Galliard was announced in 1981. ITC Galliard is a very exuberant, vibrant, and baroque typeface.

Its character strokes are strong, and fluid for example, the lowercase italic “g”. Galliard can be used both for body text and for headings.

Ixia Tricolor

The Iridaceae Family

The Iris Species The Ixia Tricolor is a flower native to south africa. They typically bloom in spring. The flowers ar bi or tri coloured with a golden centre and small surrounding ring of brown. The flowers have 5-10 emerging flowers from the base of the plant. It also has small tufted herbs and leaves stemming from the bottom of the plant stem. The spikes of the flower grow up to 500 mm high, with around 6-petals per flower. The Ixia Tricolor has purple, pink, or red petals also with dark maroon bands around the centre.

Adobe Jenson is an old-style Venetian serif typeface drawn for Adobe Systems by its chief type designer. Venetian typefaces read well in large sections of type. Jenson is also an organic design, with a low x-height.

Characterized by obvious diagonal stress.

It’s Roman styles are based on a text face cut by Nicolas Jenson in Venice around 1470. It is considered a highly readable typeface and is accordingly often used in book, and magazine design. Jenson was meant to create a range of weights and optical sizes suitable for different text sizes.

Ixia Maculata The Iridaceae Family

The Iris Species The Ixia Maculata is part of the Iridaceae (Iris) family, and originated in the Cape provinces of South Africa. It grows about 20 to 70 centimeters tall, and has basal leaves that may grow up to 35 cm tall.

The flowers stem is upright and unbranched, and can contain up to 12 flowers. Ixia Maculata also can be found in colours of orange, white or yellow, and has accents of red and purple on the inside.

Gladiolus Mucronatus

The Lily Species The Gladiolus Mucronatus flower is 3-4 inches long, and produce sword-shaped, medium green leaves in upright fans. They also have funnel-shaped flowers on slender scapes that typically bloom from summer into fall. The Gladiolus Mucronatus has an extensive range of colours, including shades of white, cream, yellow, orange, red, pink, lavender, purple and green.

Garalde Semi-Bold Display Garamond is an humanist Old Style, Garalde typeface. Garamond was developed in the 16th century by Parisian engraver Claude Garamond. The font Garamond is a member of the Roman type family, it is often used in the printing of books. Original Roman designs of Garamond were based on a font around 1495. Venetian printer letter forms such as Garamond are generally organic looking with a handwritten quality to them, the font is elegant, with rounded serifs, and thinner letterforms.

Garamond was one of the first typefaces that deviated from the original handwritten-style to a style more suitable for print.

Arno

→ Low stroke contrast Venetian → Wedge-shaped serifs → Left-leaning axis or Semi-Bold Display stress Arno is a humanist, venetian, serif typeface based on 15th and 16th century typeface styles. The Arno font family was designed by Robert Slimbach of Adobe Systems and released in 2007.

The font Arno can be perceived as fluid and organic. Arno creation was reflected by the changing of times in the 15th and 16th century, which included the printed word. Arno is a font that includes inherent features of the Renaissance era, though it is perceived modern enough to be functional today. The outline of Arno is extremely crisp, and is a good way of introducing a classic look to a brochure or various other printed documents.

Polianthes Tuberosa

The Liliaceae Family

The Lily Species The Polianthes Tuberosa species was originally native to Mexico, and is now mainly recognized as an ornamental plant. The leaves are dull green and span from about 30-50 cm long and 13 cm wide. This flower is slightly succulent, and has a inflorescence spike reaching up to 1m high. The flowers on this plant are predominantly white and tubular, with a tube height up to 6 cm long.

The tubes of the flower have 6 staments which are strongly fragrant.

The font Goudy Old Style, is a humanist font designed originally by Frederic W. Goudy for American Type Founders in 1915-1916. Goudy Old Style is elegant and stately, and suitable for both large bodies of text and display. The typeface exudes a strong sense of class, affluence and antiquity. This font is usually used for printed products such as novels, high-end magazines, event posters, programs, and business cards.

Ixia Scillaris

The Liliaceae Family

The Lily Species The Ixia Scillaris often has one to three short branchlets, and sword-shaped leaves. This flower grows on stony granite, sandstone and clay flats in the northwest and southwest Cape in Australia. It has 7-20 flowers per spike, pointing to the side, it’s colours are pink, magenta, or white, usually with a small greenish or pink center. The anthers of Ixia point straight out from the flower. It’s flowering is over a long period of time, from spring to summer.
