You don’t worry bout fitting in when you custom made -Drake

One font different Some believe typography should be emotionless. Some believe that typography is the personication of expression, on paper. While Typography provides structure and foundation in a realm that has no limits, in the end it is still art. This booklet explores how custom typefaces have not only revolutionised the way we perceive scripts, but also presents type as the epitome of translation of expression into the two dimension realm. Every expression is custom-made!

Typeface Customised font Classification Display/ Decoration Broken or interrupted construction, Letterform is modular. Emphatic points of transition between strokes or clear breaks between elements. Location & context This rugged G is featured in an article in the Discover Magazine. In this example on the left, you can see that by customising this same font, movement can be added to the poster. This poster has played with the width, outline and placement of the font to add a specific expression to their message.

Location & context This elegant W was part of an article topic called “Adewolf and the tribe” in the magazine, “Discover”. The example below shows the font in a new light

Location & context This A has a lot of comical and fun characters, I found it in a comic book. It can be customised to draw focus and add zest.

chiselled T is featured in a flier for a boating company in Granville Island. I couldn’t find that font anywhere, so I have decided to show the below example, where it can be seen that glyphic fonts were generally used as a medium of mass communication in the late 18th C .

Typeface Customised Amador Classification Blackletter Broken curves. High contrast in the bowl of the letterform with an abrupt transition. Angled axis of contrast. Handwritting derived tapered serif in the serif. No slant. Curved leg.

Location & context This gothic R was at the launch banner of a magazine I used to volunteer for a non-profit magazine called the RTF Zine. In all the examples aorund, it is visible that blackletter still has an authoritative connotation to it. It can be customised to make church propaganda or even comical one liners. No matter what time or age, it always grabs your notice.
