The Culture Project: Human Dignity and Sexual Integrity Talks

The Culture Project is an initiative of young people with the mission to restore culture through the experience of virtue. Culture Project missionaries will be available to give human dignity, sexual integrity, and social media presentations to parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of New York from October 19–24. Parishes and schools that are interested in these presentations can reach out to schedule@thecultureproject.org, or can submit a presentation request through their website. The presentations will be FREE, although a goodwill donation to the Culture Project to help cover costs would be appreciated. This is a great opportunity to bring the truths about life and love to the youth!

A SEASON OF CELEBRATION AND COMMITMENT

The Archdiocese of New York invites you into this season with deep hope and action: caring for our common home is not just a moral duty, but a spiritual one.

As Catholics across the globe enter the Season of Creation (September 1 – October 4), we are invited to renew our relationship with God, each other, and all creation through the pillars of celebration, conversion, and commitment.

A MESSAGE FROM POPE LEO XIV

“Peace with Creation” is the theme for the 2025 Season of Creation, with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation highlighting “Seeds of Peace and Hope.”

Pope Leo XIV reminds us that the Church is called to be a pilgrim of hope, sowing seeds that bear peace and hope even in difficult, arid places. Drawing on Jesus’ parables and Isaiah’s vision of wilderness becoming fruitful ground, he invites us to look at creation not as a resource to be exploited, but as a sacred gift entrusted to our care.

“In the spirit of the Canticle of Brother Sun, composed 800 years ago, let us praise God and renew our commitment not to spoil His gift, but to care for our common home.”

– Pope Leo XIV

KEY EVENTS AND WAYS TO PARTICIPATE HERE IN NEW YORK

• Mass for Care of Creation: Join us on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 PM at St. Francis Xavier Church, NYC as we mark the 10 th anniversary of Laudato Si’ with a special Mass. A reception will follow. All are welcome.

• Jubilee Pilgrimage of Hope for Creation: On Saturday, September 20, starting from St. Francis Xavier Church, take the F train to Thomas Berry Place in Jamaica, Queens, for a day of song, reflection, learning, outdoor Mass, and meditation amidst God’s natural world.

• Hudson Valley Pilgrimage in Season of Creation: Join the Center at Mariandale on Sunday, September 28, from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM for a four-mile hike to enjoy the wonder of God’s creation through the gorgeous Hudson Valley.

LIVING OUT THE CALL: PRACTICAL STEPS

Here are some ideas for how you, your parish or friends and family, or small group can respond meaningfully:

• Use worship services to lift up creation: integrate creation-themed prayers, readings, or homilies.

• Schedule prayer walks or nature-meditative moments to reconnect with God in creation.

• Organize community clean-ups or begin a garden that benefits the local food pantry.

• Join or support volunteer groups, like the Archdiocesan Green Team, focused on sustainability efforts (recycling, energy conservation, etc.).

WHY IT MATTERS

• Faith and worship overlap when we see nature not only as backdrop but as a co-participant in praise.

• Our shared home is under threat: environmental degradation, climate change, disasters affect the least among us. Taking action is deeply connected to Catholic Social Teaching.

• Pope Leo’s new “Care of Creation” Mass formulary emphasizes worship and environmental stewardship together.

GET INVOLVED AND FIND RESOURCES

• Become part of the Green Team: help design parish or community-level sustainability initiatives.

• Use official resources: Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti, and groups like the Laudato Si’ Movement, Catholic Climate Covenant, and Ignatian Solidarity Network offer study guides, prayer resources, and activism ideas.

• Spread the word: download the Care of Creation graphics, share on social media, print flyers for parish noticeboards
