Tragically, the New York State Assembly and Senate passed physician-assisted suicide legislation that would allow physicians to prescribe lethal doses of medication for the express purpose of ending a patient’s life. Assisted suicide is dangerous for patients, caregivers, and vulnerable populations such as the elderly and people with disabilities. Suicide is not medical care. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. is is an important opportunity to be educated about caring for human life until its natural end, especially in a culture that increasingly disvalues and even threatens the lives of the elderly and terminally ill. e USCCB has developed this Parish Leader Kit for Catholic Care of the Sick and Dying, in English and Spanish, which includes prayers, articles, intercessions, bulletin quotes, educational tools, and graphics.

During the second Gospel of Life Week this academic year, students at Archdiocesan schools will learn about topics that uphold the dignity of the human person. e Gospel of Life Curriculum includes creative, engaging, and free resources about the life issues for every age level.
