About The Lecture Series

Welcome to the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) lecture series for professionals, comprising a series of online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events.

The objective of the CAA’s CPD programme is to facilitate knowledge exchange between member organisations and member firms, to help promote mutual understanding and greater awareness of issues related to climate change and rapid urbanisation, together with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While targeted at built environment professionals, we hope that the programme will be of interest to policymakers, city leaders and students alike.

The CAA’s CPD Programme aims to provide a comprehensive body of knowledge, blending the latest theory based on international good practice, together with practical examples drawn from around the Commonwealth. Sharing case study examples is a critical part of building capacity (ie knowledge and skills) while also illustrating how global knowledge can be adapted and applied to local context, in line with local priorities

Drawing on the success of the Seasons 1 and 2, the CAA is in the process of negotiating accreditation of its CPD Programme with member organisation and national regulators to ensure that these events are recognised as counting towards an individual’s mandatory CPD requirements. In light of this, from Season 3 onwards the CAA will be defining a set of learning outcomes for each event and participants will be required to demonstrate having achieved these before receiving a Certificate of Participation.

SEASON 3, THE CLIMATE FRAMEWORK

Season 3 of the CAA’s CPD Programme will be organised around the six core themes (as shown below) set out in the Climate Framework. The Climate Framework is the product of a two-year consultation led by an international, crosssector, multi-disciplinary collaboration, the aim of which has been to build a comprehensive, industry-wide framework for all those working in the built environment with the knowledge required to support delivery of the UN SDGs.
