The Museum Reimagined
Museum members celebrated the completion of COMU’s renovation with an incredible gala and a week of preview events before reopening to the public on May 4, 2024.

A wonderful and talented Reopening Committee, co-chaired by Lark Champion, Ivey Evans, and Liz Lampton, and Public Reopening Committee, co-chaired by Billy Kendall and Tricia Konan, volunteered their time to ensure that the Gala, Member Family Day, and Public Reopening Weekend would be extraordinary — and they were.

Numerous volunteers spent countless hours organizing these once-in-alifetime events. Their creativity resulted in a special, fun, and unforgettable gala for 520 people—the event of the year—and fun and engaging activities for the 222 people who attended the Member Family Day.

After a series of preview events the week of April 29, we officially reopened to the public on Saturday, May 4. After our official ribbon cutting that morning, visitors enjoyed two days packed with activities, including performances by community partners, art-making activities, and a silent disco on Saturday night. Over 5,000 people attended the public reopening weekend!

Visitors enjoyed the special exhibitions, thematic reinstallation of the art and history collections, and the interactive children’s gallery and garden. Thank you so much to our committee chairs, committee members, and to the many volunteers who made these events resounding successes. We look forward to bringing art and history to life for many more generations of visitors!
