create a customized wildlife career path where they are the star of their own adventure. Roll up your sleeves and join us for a gritty, hands-on experience during the Dirty Wild Jobs camp (ages 15-18) at the Wilds. Learn how the vets do a procedure on a giraffe, how keepers perform daily foot care for rhinos, what it takes to restore a prairie and much more!

Gadzooks! What’s that blur with spots running by? Who is the tall creature with its head in the trees? What created those interesting tracks alongside the river bank? No, it’s not your imagination playing tricks, just another adventurous summer day for young campers at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Wilds. Your ticket aboard a marvelous journey awaits — will you join us?

Camping and conservation converge

Savor sensational safaris Pack your gear and let’s get going to the African Summer Safari Camp at the Columbus Zoo, where you’ll learn how a giraffe bends down without falling over or why a gorilla runs while beating its chest. Explorers (grades 1-7) will experience our African animals in habitats similar to where their wild counterparts live — on the savannas and in the rainforests of Central and Southern Africa. Special opportunities abound for older campers (grades 5-7) during an overnight stay in the Heart of Africa region. The chance to meet a cheetah — a unique lifetime experience — is reserved for our smallest trekkers (ages 3-K) during a special one-day camp.

Budding paleontologists (grades 1-2) will discover how our prehistoric friends adapted and which current zoo animals might be related (you’ll be surprised!). Young explorers in our ZooKids program (ages 3-K) will thrive on interactive fun and surprises during the Dynamite Dinos program.

Consider captivating careers

Discover dinosaur digs

Explore the fields of wildlife management, field conservation, veterinary medicine and restoration ecology during one of two camp opportunities designed for teens. At the Columbus Zoo, technology meets reality in a specially designed “augmented reality game” from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Game participants (ages 13-16) can

Unearth dinosaur fun facts and learn how they lived on a much different planet — how cool is that?

Wake up to an illuminating sunrise, then hike, swim, trail ride or canoe acres of native Ohio habitats and lakes. Or zip-line overhead past a herd of grazing rhino … adventures flourish at the Wilds’ WildeCamp! Young, inquisitive explorers immerse themselves in hands-on discovery of healthy ecosystems and discover what can be accomplished for those that need help. Campers ages 8-18 can choose their mix of conservation, education and fun from five camps offered throughout the summer. Make some new friends and treasured memories that will last for a lifetime. And don’t forget the rest of the family. Experience a unique family vacation during Family Camp at the Wilds on June 20-22 or August 8-10. Chart your course to summer adventure by visiting either the Zoo’s website at columbuszoo.org and click on “Learn at the Zoo,” or at the Wilds’ website at thewilds.org and click on “Learn at the Wilds.”
